Constellation Awards Sponsorship
(REV011611) C ANADAʼS AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN SCIENCE FICTION FILM AND TELEVISION About the Constellation Awards Thank you for your interest in The Constellation Awards, Canada’s only awards dedicated exclusively to celebrating excellence in science fiction film and television. The Constellation Awards are presented annually to the actors, producers, and technical teams behind the best science fiction productions of the year. What distinguishes the Constellation Awards from other similar awards is the fact that the Constellations are based on nominations and votes received from the Canadian viewing public. The Canadian aspect is an important factor of the Constellation Awards. As more of the international film and television industry looks to Hollywood North as an important venue for production, more and more Canadian actors and producers have become involved in popular science fiction movies and television productions. Furthermore, Canada has become a world leader in areas such as Visual Effects and 3-D animation, cornerstones of science fiction film and television production. To recognize these Canadian accomplishments, one of the goals of the Constellation Awards is to highlight Canadian contributions to science fiction film and television production. This is particularly reflected by the inclusion of the Outstanding Canadian Contribution to Science Fiction category, one of the nine awarded categories. The viewer selected aspect is also an important factor for the Constellation Awards. While awards selected by juries of industry insiders and critics are an important honour, we believe that it is also important for viewers and fans to have a way to directly honour the people behind their favourite series and films. And given that fans of science fiction film and television are among the most passionate - with thousands of them gathering every year at conventions, expos, and on online social networks dedicated to their genre - it seems particularly appropriate that these passionate viewers be the ones who decide, by popular vote, the nominees and winners in all categories of the Constellation Awards. The staff of The Constellation Awards are volunteers and do not get paid for their participation - 100% of any sponsorship monies received go to the costs of the Award Trophies, promotional costs, and costs involved in running the ceremonies. 2011 SPONSORSHIP & PROMOTIONAL PARTNERSHIP GUIDE - 1 (REV011611) C ANADAʼS AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN SCIENCE FICTION FILM AND TELEVISION Our History In 2007, the first Constellation Awards were held. Hosted by Canadian media personalities Ed the Sock and Liana K., the awards featured wins for “V For Vendetta”, “Pan’s Labyrinth”, “Stargate SG1”, “Battlestar Galactica”, and multiple wins for “Doctor Who”, including for Best Television Series of 2007. In 2008, the ceremonies were hosted by actor/comedian Rick Green (“Red Green Show”, “History Bites”, “Four On The Floor”). The TV categories were completely swept that year by “Doctor Who”, while other awards were picked up by “I Am Legend”, “Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix”, “Transformers”, “Supernatural”, and by Tanya Huff, writer and creative consultant for the series “Blood Ties”, in the category of Outstanding Canadian Contribution to Science Fiction Film and Television. In 2009, the host was actress Karen Cliche (“Flash Gordon”, “Saw VI”, “Mutant X”). The highlight of the ceremonies was actor Michael Hogan (“Battlestar Galactica”) throwing actor David Hewlett (“Stargate Atlantis”) from the stage and into the audience, on his way to accept the trophy for “Best Male Performance in a Television Episode”. Other trophies were taken home that night by the actors and technical teams behind “WALL-E”, “Doctor Who”, “Iron Man”, and the “Stargate” Franchise of series and films. Actor/comedian Gavin Stephens (“Comedy Inc.”, “Nerdgasm”, “Spectacular! Spectacular!”) hosted the 2010 ceremonies. For the first time “Doctor Who” was defeated in the “Best Television Series” category, with the Vancouver-based series “Supernatural” winning the honours. The film categories were split between the blockbusters “Star Trek” and “Avatar”. The TCON Promotional Society is a not-for-profit group, and therefore we depend on sponsorships to help pay these costs. This does not mean though that the we are only interested in money! If your organization can offer a product or service that would help us cut our costs, we would certainly be interested in discussing this as an alternate form of sponsorship. What do our sponsors get out of it? Promotion, promotion, promotion! The awards website and publications will be seen by hundreds of Canadian fans of science fiction film and television. By sponsoring our event, your name/logo/advertisement will be seen by all those fans! In this guide, you will find more information on our organization and our sponsorship program. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at [email protected]. Above: A Stormtrooper invades co-host Ed the Sock’s space at the 2007 ceremonies. BECOME A PROMOTIONAL PARTNER If you or your organization does not have a budget to sponsor our event but would still like to support us, we offer an alternative: Promotional Partnerships. If you can help spread the word about our awards via advertisements, logo placements, distribution of our nomination and voting ballots, or any other means, we will promote you or your organization in return! See Page 6 of this guide for more information. 2011 SPONSORSHIP & PROMOTIONAL PARTNERSHIP GUIDE - 3 (REV011611) C ANADAʼS AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN SCIENCE FICTION FILM AND TELEVISION Sponsorship Levels Here are the currently available levels of sponsorship and the benefits associated with each level.
