Raiffeisen entered the Romanian market in 1998 by founding Raiffeisen Bank S.A., which was merged with
Banca Agricola S.A. in 2002. Raiffeisen Bank managed to anchor itself deeply in the Romanian market by
providing a comprehensive range of high-quality financial services and products to almost 2 million customers, including nearly 100,000 SMEs and 8,000 corporate clients. Raiffeisen Bank’s network covers the entire
territory of Romania, the branches being located exclusively in the urban area.
In spite of the difficult economic conditions, Raiffeisen Bank has posted a very good result due to diversified
income streams. At the end of 2011, Raiffeisen Bank was the second most profitable bank in Romania, posting a profit after tax of € 96 million. The bank's total assets stood at € 5.521 billion.
In 2011, loans to customers increased by 16 per cent to about € 3.53 billion, and customer deposits amounted to € 3.95 billion. Raiffeisen Bank focused on its house bank functions for its customers in all business
areas, while keeping a tight grip on costs and risks.
Besides its role in banking business, Raiffeisen in Romania is one of the leading providers in the areas of
asset management and leasing.
