at Lunar New Year Gathering
In the spirit of togetherness and to
spread happiness, Sime Darby Property
recently invited a group of senior
citizens from Rumah Charis Old Folks

More than 50 senior citizens along

employees to enjoy a sumptuous meal
that began with the traditional tossing
of the Yee Sang and finished with a

Dato’ Seri Wahab Maskan, Managing
Director of Sime Darby Property, said,
“Being a multi-cultural nation and
organisation, we are so very glad to have
the opportunity to share such festive
occasions with different segments of

Recognised as a
Malaysian Best
Employer
Sime Darby Property bagged the
Best Employers Malaysia 2015 award
from Aon Hewitt; the global talent,
retirement and health solutions
provider.
The award comes on the heels of two
other recent wins by Sime Darby Berhad,
the only Malaysian organisation to
receive awards for both Global and
South East Asia 2014 Aon Hewitt Top
Companies for Leaders.
Managing Director, Dato’ Seri Abd
Wahab Maskan, said, “We are immensely
proud to have this recognition. A
company is only ever as good as our
assets and there are no greater assets
than our people. The much-respected
Aon Hewitt award is a reflection of the
calibre of our people and we could not
be happier knowing that they are happy
to be part of the Sime Darby Property
family.”
The Aon Hewitt Best Employers award is accorded based on results from an in-depth
study that surveys employees. Established in 2001, the programme has since become
the most comprehensive study of its kind in Asia, with Malaysia being one of the 12
markets surveyed.
Dato’ Seri Abd Wahab concluded, “Embracing sustainability in every way will
be fundamental to our continued growth and success. We aim for high levels of
employee engagement and effective leadership engagement programmes apart from
ensuring a sustainable reward structure and working environment. We have made
commendable progress over the years, but our work is far from over. This recognition
will no doubt inspire us to work even harder to continue developing a passionate and
driven workforce.”

Rumah
Selangorku
Launched in
Bandar Bukit Raja
Sime Darby Property (SDP) became
the first private developer to launch
2,403 units of affordable homes under
the Rumah Selangorku program. The
registration and launch event, held on
20 March 2015 in Bandar Bukit Raja,
was officiated by the Menteri Besar of
Selangor YAB Tuan Mohamed Azmin Ali
and attended by more than 200 potential
house buyers, all eager to know more
about the affordable homes program.
Under the Rumah Selangorku program
in Bandar Bukit Raja, SDP will be
developing four phases of affordable
homes with phase 1 consisting of
618 units of type C and type D homes
(with a price range from RM180,000 to
RM250,000) to be completed by year
2018, while the remaining 3 phases to be
completed by year 2020.
10 Sime Darby Property Window
In his speech, the Menteri Besar of
Selangor said that in line with Selangor’s
Budget 2015, seven more affordable
home projects by various developers
will be launched soon. He was also
pleased with SDP for being proactive
and becoming the first private property
developer to be involved in the initiative.
SDP is one of the first corporate entities
to start developing affordable homes,
not just in response to the Government’s
and a state’s call for support to manage
housing concerns, but also through
its own initiatives where the company
makes affordable homes an integral part
of every township.
Over the years, SDP has contributed
about 37,000 units of affordable housing,
either through its own initiative or as
part of the federal or state government
initiatives, and will continue to contribute
towards fulfilling the need for affordable
homes throughout the country.

Green Hearties Explore
Biodiversity At FRIM
As part of their continuous learning
journey about environmental
protection, 16 Green Hearties
camped overnight at the Forest
Research Institute of Malaysia or
better known as FRIM.
The children also learnt how to
read a compass and visited the
FRIM Research Gallery before they
continued their adventure with
a night walk at 8.00pm on the
same day.
The purpose was to learn about
the importance of preserving and
safeguarding forest biodiversity
and to learn how to take positive
actions to protect it. FRIM is one of
the leading institutions in tropical
forestry research in the world and
was officially declared a National
Heritage site on 10 May 2012.
They were very lucky as they had the
chance to catch a rare phenomenon
called “Crown Shyness”, a
phenomenon refers to a “puzzlelike pattern” of the individual tree
crowns separated by gaps which
form an amazing and beautiful
outline against the night sky.
They started their journey early from
Oasis Ara Damansara on January
10, 2015 and were all geared up for
a night and day of adventure and
exploration.
Once they arrived at FRIM, they
were briefed on safety procedures
and divided into 2 groups before
going on a nature trail walk to reach
the famous canopy walk.
The canopy walk is suspended 30m
from the ground and spans over
200m. Throughout their walk to the
Canopy Walkway they were briefed
about FRIM’s history and the tree
cultivation area.
Indeed it was a two-time lucky
evening for the young explorers
when they encountered another
unique female firefly species called
Lamprigera which do not have
wings to fly and rarely make an
appearance.
The next morning, after spending
the night sleeping in A-Hut tents,
the children were divided into 4
groups and equipped with binoculars
for a nature treasure hunt that took
up the rest of their morning.
Although the Green Hearties were
tired by the end of the programme,
it was all worthwhile because they
brought back new knowledge and
an unforgettable experience that
they can share with their family
and friends.

Learning about Dimes and Dough at the Bank Negara
Malaysia Museum & Art Gallery
Thirty Green Hearties, aged seven to 12
years old, participated in an educational
visit to the Bank Negara Malaysia
Museum & Art Gallery (BNMMAG) on 17
March 2015 at Jalan Dato’ Onn,
Kuala Lumpur.
The visit aimed to educate the Green
Hearties on the role and history of Bank
Negara Malaysia, Malaysian Currency
and the save, spend and share concept.
The Museum and Art Gallery is housed in
an impressive modern-design complex
of glass and titanium known as Sasana
Kijang, where Bank Negara Malaysia’s
centre of learning excellence is also
located.
The Green Hearties were given a safety
briefing by Ms Noorzaiti of BNMMAG
before proceeding to the Children’s
Gallery located on the Ground Floor. An
interactive session was conducted to
enlighten the children on the role and
value of money as well as learning about
the cost of everyday items, for them to
be smart consumers. The children also
learnt about what bank notes and coins
are made of.
12 Sime Darby Property Window
The Children’s Gallery offered a good learning experience for the Green Hearties,
especially when they had to enter the Children Gallery through a “money tunnel”
lined with over a million Ringgit in cash of various denominations displayed behind
an acrylic wall. Many could not contain their excitement upon seeing so much cash in
front of their eyes!
Next on the agenda was the Numismatics Gallery where the children were fascinated
by the heritage of our currency ranging from primitive currencies in Borneo, early
Chinese currency, animal-shaped gold bars, tin block money, coins issued by the
different Malay Sultanates, Portuguese-era coins, British colonial-era coins and other
banknotes that were on display.
The educational trip continued with a talk entitled ‘What is Money?’ by Ms Hazlini
from BNMMAG. The objective of the talk was to educate the children on the history
and significance of money for the economy. Thereafter, the Green Hearties adjourned
to the Islamic Finance Gallery and the Economics Gallery where they were taught all
about the role of currency in an economy through interactive games, getting to know
interesting facts and information along the way.

The Green Hearties final stop was the
Bank Negara Gallery where they learnt
about the history and the role of Bank
Negara as Malaysia’s central bank. They
were shown exhibits that included a
mock-up vault with a touch keypad
outside the vault door. When the code
was keyed in, the frosted glass wall
cleared to reveal the contents of the
vault – a mountain of gold bars and cash!
Truly a worthwhile educational
experience, the Green Hearties brought
back with them new knowledge about
the importance and value of money. It is
hoped that the visit will inspire them to
practice the concept of save, spend and
share in their daily lives.
