For those unable to attend our Awards Presentation on April

Shults Toyota/Edmond Chevrolet
Exemplary Business Award Winner
Shults Toyota/Edmond Chevrolet’s long-standing tradition of
quality sales and outstanding customer service began in 1989
when Tim and Ed Shults, Jr. purchased Bay Chevrolet and
renamed the dealership Edmond Chevrolet. A year later, the
Toyota franchise was added, and in 1991 Steve Hopkins moved
to Bradford and became the dealership’s service manager.
In 2001, Steve became General Manager and partner with Tim
and Ed Shults, Jr. In 2006, Ed Shults, Jr. retired, and in 2007 an
economic recession began that presented significant challenges
to the auto sales industry for several years. In 2010, the General
Motors operation moved back to the 880 East Main Street
location, and in 2013 the 590 South Avenue property was sold.
During the past two years, Shults Toyota/Edmond Chevrolet have
made significant improvements to their East Main Street property,
including the addition of a new body shop, and complete rebuild
of the Chevrolet dealership and Toyota showroom.
As an anchor in the East Bradford area, Shults Toyota/Edmond
Chevrolet has been in a prime position to watch as Bradford has
developed and changed. They have played a significant role in
supporting local events and organizations, financially and through
participation of management and staff throughout the community.
The dealership, known for its friendly and knowledgeable staff,
has shown they believe in and provide excellent customer service,
and has proven to be a supporter of the Bradford community.
Beacon Light Behavioral Health Systems
Community and Spirit Award Winner
Beacon Light applied for and was awarded a state grant of $3
million to invest in infrastructure of its headquarters on East Main
Street. This will allow the company to remain in Bradford for the
foreseeable future, and expand and renovate campus structures.
Although Beacon Light remains relatively quiet, they have been in
the Bradford area for over 110 years and are a major employer
in the area with over 400 employees in McKean County alone.
The agency completed a $2 million capital campaign to add a
10-bed residential wing to its existing First Street building. This
wing will be home to a specialized population of children who
require a high level of supervision and care.
Many of the leaders at Beacon Light serve on local boards and
volunteer their assistance to other service agencies. The clients
volunteer their time, with assistance from staff members, at the
SPCA and visiting local nursing homes.
Additionally, the agency has been a supporter and advocate
of other non-profit agencies such as the United Way of the
Bradford Area, the Bradford Family YMCA, the Bradford
Area Public Library, and Kiwanis Kapers.
Regardless of the number of services, employees, or locations,
at its core Beacon Light is about serving mental health needs
of children and adults in their homes, schools and communities.
Each day their programs touch more than 1000 individuals,
and whether it’s in a family therapy session, a structured group
home setting, a peer-led mental illness recovery journey, or
alternative classrooms teaching life skills, the mission remains
constant: reaching out to individuals in need wherever they
may be, developing programs of hope and mental wellness in
a customized way to enrich the lives of those most in need.
Chris Minich
Directors’ Award Winner
Chris Minich was selected as the Directors’ Award recipient,
based not only on her dedication and commitment to the
community, but also in appreciation of her continued support
of the Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce and its mission.
Chris embodies our theme of “giving back” in everything she
does. She is one of the Chamber’s best ambassadors, and
beyond her support of the Chamber, her commitment and
dedication to a wide variety of organizations and efforts has
made an extraordinary impact on the community.
Chris has served most recently as chair of the Board of Trustees
for the Bradford Area Public Library and as a board member
for the Bradford Creative and Performing Arts Center. She has
also been spokesperson and board member for the ELF Fund,
Festival of Trees chairman and volunteer, American Cancer
Society Relay for Life team leader, and a volunteer for United
Way of the Bradford Area. For United Way, Chris – with
Steve Cottillion and Karen Pecht – were campaign co-chairs
for two consecutive years – where they were proud to join
together to raise awareness for the campaign (LIVE UNITED).
As just two examples of Chris’s enthusiasm and devotion within
the community, you may remember her ‘one hit wonder’ stint
with Bradford Little Theatre as the murderer in the dinner
theater “I’m Getting Murdered in the Morning,” and her role
with Kiwanis Kapers in 2012 – where she and Ed Hayden
were the ‘announcers’.
As many people at the Chamber and beyond can attest to,
Chris has a unique ability to enlist volunteer support –
when she asks you to get involved, it’s nearly impossible
to say no. But when you do agree to help, you also know
that she’ll be right there in the trenches with you, working
together to get the job done!

As we head into the summer
months I wanted to use today’s
letter to encourage all of our
members to use the services
that we provide. Many times we
hear from members who choose
not to renew that they aren’t
getting anything out of their
membership, but we are here
to help you get your money’s
worth from your membership.
So let’s start with our email
blast. It goes out every week,
and if you have anything going
on in your business, let us know
and we will be happy to share
it with our email list.
Our Facebook page is one of
the best tools that we have. This
past week we had over 72,000
hits with all the posts we made
from our members, and again
we love to help you promote
your business. If you have a
Facebook page, make sure that
you have liked our page, so
that we can in turn share your
latest posts.
This newsletter is another source
of information for our members.
Again, if you have something
going on let us know, and we
will be sure to include your news.
We have a calendar where
you can list your events. We
encourage everyone, especially
non-profit groups, to list their
events on our calendar, so
that we can help eliminate
duplications on the same day.

with Tricia if you are interested in scheduling
a window display.

As chilly as it has been, it’s hard to imagine that our second annual BACC Member

Thursday, July 23rd from 5-7pm at Mystic Waters Resort, and spread the word!
Brought to you in part by Signature Sponsor Northwest Savings Bank, the cookout

buffet, beverages, games, your choice of mini golf or driving range, and more!
Feeling lucky? We will again draw the winners for our 200 Club 50/50 Raffle at the

Let’s talk about...
You’re Tote-ally Awesome!
Spring Cleaning - Part 2
Our mission here at the Chamber is to promote and support
our business community, but we need your help with a couple of
upcoming promotional opportunities!
Last month we talked about spring cleaning your business, and
this month, we’re turning our attention outside!
• We currently provide New Homeowner Tote Bags to new
Bradford area homeowners - these tote bags are distributed
through local realtors and direct community referrals to the
Chamber office. We have a brand new supply of bags ready
to be filled with promotional items from our member businesses
and organizations. Here is how you can get involved and get
your message out to those who are new to the area: provide
a business card, printed piece (brochure, flyer, menu, etc.), or
promotional item (key chain, pen, notepad, or other item of
your choice) to be included. We will be assembling this batch of
100 New Homeowner Tote Bags during the third week of May,
so be sure to have your items at the BACC office by May 15th
to be included. You will need to provide 100 of whatever item
you choose to contribute, and it must represent a BACC member
business or organization. To let us know you plan to participate,
please contact Kara at [email protected]
and we’ll be on the lookout for your items to arrive at the office!
• We are also working with Zippo Outdoor again this year as
the Cabela’s Master Walleye Circuit returns to town in June. We
will be assembling an additional 100 Welcome Tote Bags for
the anglers participating in the tournament. This is a great way
to get the word out about your company or organization, and
share anything special you may have going on when they are
in town (the weekend of June 19th-21st). Some of the fun things
our members included last year were sunscreen packets with the
business name/logo on them, a coupon/flyer with an inexpensive
fishing lure attached, magnets, water bottles, and more. If you
would like to participate,
contact Kara at kara.kennedy@
bradfordchamber.com to be
added to the list, and provide
100 of your item to the BACC
office by June 1st to be included
in the anglers’ bags.
There is no advertising fee to
participate in either tote bag
program - your only cost is for
the item(s) you supply. Questions?
Contact us at 814-368-7115.
It was nice to see so many volunteers at the Main Street Program
clean up day, and now we at BACC are preparing for a Veterans’
Square Clean Up to have it in great shape for Memorial Day. We
hope to have several volunteers join us Thursday, May 7th at 9am
at Veterans’ Square. Bring a shovel or rake and, please, watch our
Facebook page for updates in case of inclement weather!
Ready to take it further and clean up your own neighborhood?
Here are some useful ideas from an article aimed at children for
Earth Day - but the concepts definitely apply to all of us.
Help Clean Up Your Neighborhood! (from kidzworld.com)
Earth Day is the day to clean up our planet. But it’s not something
we should do only one day of the year, but every single day!
Since it’s pretty difficult to clean up the entire planet by yourself,
start by tidying up your neighborhood with a few simple tasks.
Take out the trash. Collecting garbage is a gross job, but it has
to be done. Organize groups of three or four people, wear old
clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, and throw on a pair of
gloves. Don’t just stick to the streets, but hit the alleys, parks and
parking lots to pick up any trash that’s lying around.
Gang up on grafitti. Graffiti can take the form of drawings or
words, but it’s vandalism if done on a person’s property without
consent. You can fight graffiti by washing down/painting walls,
houses, fences, garage doors and anything else with graffiti on it.
Mow, mow, mow your lawn. You may not stop and smell the
grass like you would with roses, but with the exception of people
with allergies, who doesn’t like the smell of freshly cut grass? A
nice lawn instantly brightens up the neighborhood, but many
homeowners aren’t able to care for their lawns because of their
age or other limitations. So volunteer to do yard work if you can
by trimming hedges, plucking weeds and mowing lawns.
Flowers, plants, and trees, oh my! If there’s a vacant lot collecting
dust and junk, wouldn’t it be great to start a community garden?
A community garden is a space where neighbors work together
to grow fruit, veggies and flowers. If that’s out of the question, try
gardening on a smaller scale - plant flowers, shrubs and trees in
neighbors’ gardens (with permission!) and along the sidewalks.

Our website includes your member listing,
and if you open that you will see a brief
description of your business. You can change
that information any time that you like, and
that includes listing Facebook, website, and
email addresses. Contact the office for any
updates to be made.
Up next is networking - we have a Business
After Hours event several times a year at
various member locations. We welcome you
to come and share with other businesses what
is happening in your business.
We also offer the use of our window. One
great example was the recent Glen Campbell

by the Bradford Ecumenical Home. They used
our window to promote their event. Check
with Tricia if you are interested in scheduling
a window display.
If you need to use our conference room
for a special meeting, let us know. As a
member you are entitled to use this room
and we schedule it on a first-come, firstserved basis.
Would you like a set of mailing labels for our
members? You are entitled to one set a year just let us know when you need them, and we
will be happy to print them and have them
ready and waiting for you.
Ca$h Mob Bradford will be back in action on Saturday, May 9th at 10am. Bring
$20 cash, be ready to shop, and meet us at the Chamber office, 121 Main Street.
Together we will head to our target business and make their day! Feel free to bring
along your friends and family to join the mob - the more, the merrier!
As chilly as it has been, it’s hard to imagine that our second annual BACC Member
Family Cookout is just a couple months away. Be sure to mark your calendar for
Thursday, July 23rd from 5-7pm at Mystic Waters Resort, and spread the word!
Brought to you in part by Signature Sponsor Northwest Savings Bank, the cookout

buffet, beverages, games, your choice of mini golf or driving range, and more!
Feeling lucky? We will again draw the winners for our 200 Club 50/50 Raffle at the

As we head into the summer
months I wanted to use today’s
letter to encourage all of our
members to use the services
that we provide. Many times we
hear from members who choose
not to renew that they aren’t
getting anything out of their
membership, but we are here
to help you get your money’s
worth from your membership.
So let’s start with our email
blast. It goes out every week,
and if you have anything going
on in your business, let us know
and we will be happy to share
it with our email list.
Our Facebook page is one of
the best tools that we have. This
past week we had over 72,000
hits with all the posts we made
from our members, and again
we love to help you promote
your business. If you have a
Facebook page, make sure that
you have liked our page, so
that we can in turn share your
latest posts.
This newsletter is another source
of information for our members.
Again, if you have something
going on let us know, and we
will be sure to include your news.
We have a calendar where
you can list your events. We
encourage everyone, especially
non-profit groups, to list their
events on our calendar, so
that we can help eliminate
duplications on the same day.

For those unable to attend our Awards Presentation on April
16th, we share the winner’s profiles excerpted from the script.

On Saturday, August 1, 2015, we will be holding the 10th annual Willow Creek Triathlon
for individuals and teams to compete in a 300-yard swim beginning at Quaker Lake in
Allegany State Park, N.Y., a 15-mile bike ride to The New Corydon Hotel, and a threemile run culminating at The Willows Restaurant in Willow Creek, PA.
The purpose of this event is to raise money for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV)
Transportation Network. Money raised is used to purchase vans to transport Veterans to
and from VA hospitals and clinics. Donations to the Triathlon stay within the local area.
To date we have donated more than $150,000 to the DAV. We ask that you consider
making a generous donation to this cause. Sponsors may donate any amount. The sponsor
levels and available advertising are on the back of the sponsor form.

2015 Yellow Dog Award
Dear Friends,
With pride and gratitude, Penn Brad Oil Museum announces the Yellow Dog Award for
outstanding service to the museum and our community. This year we will be honoring Susan
Gibson Perry and Sherri Huston Schulze. Susan served the museum as president and treasurer
and Sherri as curator. Both of these generous women are extremely well versed in Bradford
Oilfield History. Together they have organized and classified the entire collection of exhibits at
the museum. During difficult times at the museum Susan and Sherri held things together in an
extraordinarily generous way.
The Yellow Dog Award was instituted by Jim Bryner, museum founder, to honor leadership and
dedication in preserving the history of the Bradford Oil Field and the unique culture that
developed with it.
Susan and Sherri will be honored on June 6, 2015 at 6:00 PM at the Bradford Club at a
celebratory award dinner. In order to provide for the future of the museum that they so love we
are offering the opportunity to place an advertisement or message of congratulations in the
program booklet. We are sure you would derive personal satisfaction knowing you publicly
acknowledged their efforts. There will also be opportunities for personal or corporate
sponsorships of various features of the evening. Enclosed, please find a form to indicate your level
of participation and/or desire for dinner reservations. Please return the form no later than May 4,
2015. Please return R.S.V.P. dinner reservations by May 28, 2015
On behalf of the Penn Brad Oil Museum, we thank you in advance for your support and look
forward to seeing you on June 6, 2015.
With warmest regards,
