On, August 21, 2012 the Belhaven Community Chamber of
Commerce held its monthly board meeting with a few items up for
discussion.
They discussed the boat building project that was started several
months ago by then Executive Director Lloyd Ballance, Board
Member Les Porter & Dave Rieves. A project that would draw

Ferry Schedule
As of August 22, 2012 the T & L Variety Store are the newest members of the Belhaven Chamber of
Commerce. President Greg Satterthwaite and Board Member Julian Goff were present to welcome Terrance & Lisa Glasper Owners/Operators of the store as the newest Chamber members. We are
excited to have them as our newest members this store has a great deal to offer Belhaven. They have hand
scoop ice cream, snack items, clothing, handbags, shoes, gift items, jewelry, and much, much more.
Terrance and Lisa want their shop to be a location for information and a place where people can come in
and feel welcome. They offer a small room in the back to Church outreach ministries a ladies bible study,
there is a Men’s group that meets and they have a game room in the back with arcade games and pool table
for the youth in the area. They also provide an outreach of their own helping those who need assistance.
So, if your in the area see what they have to offer. Pictures on Pg 5 & 8.

NC Estuarium Calendar - September 2012
Art Exhibit- NC Estuarium, Washington, NC- Jeff Lewis exhibits his nature photography. Jeff is the Gardens and Nursery Manager of The Elizabethan Gardens in Manteo and an avid birder and amateur
naturalist. He’s had more than 1000 photos published in books, magazines, newspapers and a variety of other media.
River Roving Educational River Tours- NC Estuarium, Washington, NC
-Learn about the history and habitats of the Washington waterfront.
These boat tours cruise the PamlicoRiver Wednesday through Friday at 10:30 and 1:30, and
Saturdays at 10:30. No admission fee or other cost is involved for the tour, but advance reservations
are required. Riders should check in 15 minutes in advance. Children must be at least 6 years old to
ride; a responsible adult must accompany children under 16. River Roving 2012 is sponsored by Lee
Chevrolet-Buick of Washington. Call 252-948-0000 for reservations.
“Drawing and Painting from Nature”- NC Estuarium, Washington, NC- Two Separate Classes- Sept
11- Oct 30: This is a Tuesday afternoon class and meets from 1:00-3:00. Sept 12- Oct 31: This is a
Wednesday morning class and meets from 10:00-12:00. Linda Boyer is the instructor. There is a
$25 fee for the eight weekly classes. These classes explore drawing and watercolor painting basics
and emphasize a natural theme. Reservations are required and a materials list is available. Please call
252-948-0000.
“An Introduction to Personal and Family Boat Building”- NC Estuarium, Washington, NCSeptember 22- In celebration of BeaufortCounty’s 300th Anniversary, this program continues the
county tradition of boat building. Master boat builder Graham Burns of Vandemere will discuss his
methods and designs for building small affordable boats. A variety of hand built boats will be on
display. The program will be held 1:00-3:00 and there is a $5.00 program fee. Reservations are
necessary as space is limited. Please call 252-948-0000 to pre-register. Educational programming at
the North Carolina Estuarium is supported by The Karns Fund.

The Estuarium is located at 223 E. Water Street, Washington, NC, and is open Tuesday-Saturday,
10:00-4:00. Admission is $4.00 adults and $2.00 students. Please call ahead for program info as
space may be limited. The Estuarium is a Partnership for the Sounds facility, an organization
promoting eco-tourism and sustainable economic development in the Albemarle-Pamlico region. Educational programming at the North Carolina Estuarium is supported by The Karns Fund.

Visit Goose Creek State Park and learn about the interesting life cycle of the blue crab.

Exotic Invasive
Expand your knowledge on some of our common invasive and exotic plant species. Find
out what to look out for in your yard and what to avoid planting. We will discuss why these
plants are not good for our native environment and ways you can get rid of them. Please

All About Dragonflies
Meet at the park Visitor Center to discuss and identify some of Eastern North Carolina’s
beautiful dragonflies!! Why are they so important to our environment? How many different
colors do dragonflies come in? After studying dragonflies indoors we will take a one to
