Customers are able to have fun choosing various kinds
of wagashi (traditional Japanese sweet) from Kyoto’s
exclusive, traditional shops. Enjoy tasting green tea in
a space richly filled with Kyoto’s atmosphere…relax for
a little while. Some of the teas and utensils used at the
shop are available for purchase as well. Every item has
a connection with Kyoto and will be a good memory
to take back home from your trip in Japan! Just next to
the shop is the Kyoto Gallery, where you are able to see
& buy Kyoto’s traditional crafts.

Kyoto City has been holding various events at many
spots within the city by setting the spring equinox day
as the “Traditional Industry Day.” This is to disseminate
the charms of Kyoto artisan’s highly skilled techniques
both within and outside the country. Kyoto Saryo
will be one of the venues for this purpose and Kyoto’s
traditional items made with a high-level techniques
and strong design skills, which were passed down for

generations will be exhibited. This exhibition will be
divided into first and second halves and for
the first part, middle-ranked artisans who
were chosen as a “Future Craftsmen” by the
mayor will be introduced. For the second
part, items made by young artisans who
will lead the Kyoto’s next generation, will be
Madoka WAKUNAMI’s saké cups made with
exhibited.

on the Big Stairway
The station building’s highlight, and also a popular
spot for tourists, the “Big Stairway” will be illuminated
with beautiful images of Kyoto sceneries during the
night time.
Surprisingly, the Big Stairway has a total of 171 stairs
covering 7 floors and about 15,000 LED lights will be
used for this great performance. Enjoy the powerful,
yet subtle beauty of this performance!
