commencement
2010
Dear Graduates,
Congratulations on your graduation from The University of Texas at Brownsville
and Texas Southmost College, and for achieving this milestone in your academic
career. Today your success stands as a symbol of all the new beginnings that are
now possible in your future.
You have earned your place with your colleagues and your right to wear the
beautiful regalia that symbolize your commitment to your own education, as
well as the commitment of your families, your professors and your friends who
helped you to achieve your goal. Your graduation opens doors of opportunities
that only you can walk through with your credentials in hand.
Now marked as Scorpions forever, we hope that you will bring fresh voices to the
leadership our communities need. There is much work to be done to improve
the quality of life in our region, our state and beyond. You are now among the
educated elite, and it is my sincere hope that you will use your talents to help
those around you.
No matter where your career path leads you, know that you always have a home
here on campus. You are the newest graduates of The University of Texas at
Brownsville and Texas Southmost College, and you are our future.
Felicidades,
Juliet V. García, Ph.D.

College of Education
Candidates for Graduation
The banner of the College of Education features the fleur de lis, the flower of the lily or iris, symbolic of royalty
throughout the ages, but, in the case of the college, representative of that most royal of callings, teaching. The three
torches represent the three levels of education: the child, the adolescent and the adult. Their silver colors represent the
sincerity that all teachers must have and the peace that knowledge brings.
