June 2011 - Cloverdale
Chamber Moves into New Building
It is with much sadness and with much excitement that we at
the Chamber move into a smaller, more manageable space at
126 N. Cloverdale Blvd.
After the dissolution of the North Coast Wine and Visitors
Center several years ago, the Chamber stepped in and with
financial assistance from the City of Cloverdale, was able to
continue the operation of the Visitors Center. However, the
downturn in the economy and the precarious state of
redevelopment agencies in California, has affected the amount
of funding the Chamber can continue to expect to receive
from the City, making it necessary for us significantly cut our
overhead expenses.
Late last year, the Chamber Board decided to advertise the
Wine and Visitors Center building for lease/share, with the
idea of relocating the Chamber functions to a smaller area in
the building. We had not considered the idea of selling the
building, until interest in purchasing was generated from a
local winery.
Ted and Deanna Starr from Milano Winery have purchased
105 N. Cloverdale Blvd. and will be opening a tasting room
facing onto the Boulevard, and will be moving their winery
software company VinNow into the rear space. This move
will be a benefit to the revitalization of the downtown,
offering an attraction for locals and tourists alike, as well as
providing a number of jobs.
The Chamber will continue to operate as the voice for the
business community in Cloverdale, as well as offering
information about local businesses, events and attractions, we
will continue to stock information about Sonoma and
Mendocino Counties, local wineries, lodging and destinations.
The office is currently open Monday through Friday from
9:00 am to 5:00pm, and closed on weekends. The phone is
894-4470.
This transition has been eased by a number of very important
people, to whom I am very grateful; Thank you to the
Chamber Board of Directors who spent so much time in
meetings and negotiations, acting always in the best interests
of the membership and the community. Thank you to
Marshall Kelly, from Keegan and Coppin Realtors who
represented the Chamber in the sale, and to Ron Pavelka who
handled the lease on our new offices. Thank you also to Norv
and Grace Dilley our new land lords who painted and
carpeted our space so beautifully! And a very special thank
you to Vickie Hegarty, Maya Mayfield, Mike Nixon, Nathan
Rotlisberger, Kevin Hegarty and Charlie Hegarty who
muscled-up and moved us into our new digs!
Stop by and see us!

In the
Pipeline
Wow! There is so much going on in Cloverdale, it
almost makes my head spin! Welcome to Ken Knight
and his eponymous store so beautifully stocked, and
Local Folkal brimming with art, crafts, and artisan foods
all made locally. Cathy Thomas is opening Towers
Gallery in the Copper Towers Building, representing a
number of artists working in a variety mediums…
Tasting rooms and software companies…and more is on
the way.
Real Goods Solar recently combined their Ukiah
warehouse and their Santa Rosa Warehouse into a
warehouse here in Cloverdale. A-1 Restoration has
moved into the former feed store, and Andrews Sheet
Metal has relocated to Cloverdale on the Boulevard
across from Citrus Fair.
Clovers Bar and Grill will open this summer with a new
look and a new name…and I can hardly wait until we can
talk openly about the business moving into Westamerica
Bank’s old building.
Dare I say it…”Cloverdale is on the map!”

Hamburger Ranch & BBQ who are celebrating the 10th anniversary of
their restaurant. A couple of years ago they started featuring slow
cooked Kansas City BBQ and now are smoking their own bacon,
making their own pastrami, grinding their own sausage and special blend
hamburgers. Their famous summer BBQ is underway, now that the
weather has cooperated. If you still have room after your meal, Joanne’s
desserts are legendary. Hamburger Ranch and BBQ also offers
catering and BBQ to go. The restaurant is located just before the Hwy.

• Jackie Wiget recently celebrated her 22 year at Chase Bank in
Cloverdale, surviving a couple of acquisitions. She recently
accepted the position of branch manager of Chase’s Ukiah branch.
Because her team in Cloverdale was so well trained, she felt it was
time to take on new challenges and a much larger office. “I have
enjoyed working with the wonderful team in Cloverdale who have
become part of my family and I will miss seeing my customers that
I have had the pleasure of working with for the past 22 years,”
Wiget commented.
• Jonathan B Kreger and Patti Mannatt have both been elected to
the Board of Directors at Alexander Valley Regional Medical
Center (AVRMC). Kreger is a Diplomate, American Board of
Podiatric Surgery and Mannatt is Vice President / Branch Manager
of Exchange Bank in Cloverdale. They both join the board as a
major review of current and future healthcare needs and facilities
for Geyserville and Cloverdale is underway. Dr. Kreger brings 20
years of experience practicing podiatry in Sonoma and Mendocino
counties. He currently sees patients in Cloverdale and Ukiah. He
has first-hand knowledge, having worked at AVRMC and
designing a medical facility in Ukiah. Mannatt has nearly 30 years
in the banking field and recently served on the Board of Directors at
the Cloverdale Boys and Girls Club. In joining the board, Mannatt
said, “AVRMC is vital to Northern Sonoma County and must be
supported...” as a key component to the region’s efforts to attract,
retain and expand businesses in northern Sonoma County.
• David Weber, of Weber’s Black Belt Academy, is now offering
Saturday classes and has started their Olympic program. For more

• Jane Pavelka, with Wine Country Group Realtors by Better
Homes and Gardens Real Estate, recently completed several
specialty courses to better serve clients. She is pictured with her
latest certification, Short Sales and Foreclosure Resource (SFR)
from the National Association of Realtors. “Continuing to update
my education and learn more about the components of our multifaceted and ever changing business allows us to better understand
the market and what our clients’ needs are. It is one of the ways
that we can provide the level of service that our customers have
come to expect from us,” Pavelka commented.
• Redwood Credit Union (RCU) recently collected more than
$13,000 to assist the American Red Cross with relief efforts for the
tsunami and earthquake that ravaged Japan earlier this year. Within
hours of the news of the Japan tsunami and earthquake in March,
RCU established all 15 of its local branches as Red Cross
collection points. “Our hearts go out to all those affected by the
tsunami and earthquake,” said Anne Benjamin, RCU’s Executive
Vice President and Chief Operations Officer. “Redwood Credit
Union along with our Members, Officials and staff wanted to
contribute in any way we could, and we hope the funds donated
will help to provide some relief,” added Ms. Benjamin.
