Bonefish Folley, storyteller and
fisherman – Grand Bahama Island
In The Islands of The Bahamas,
every story starts with a smile.
Everyone still calls me Bonefish Folley, as I’m as hooked on
fishing now as I was back in the day when I took out folks
like President Nixon and Prince Rainier. To me there’s no
better way to spend time here at the top of the Caribbean,
apart from maybe sitting in the sun and just relaxing. These
days my son and grandson give me a hand, but you can still
catch me here, ready to tell you more about the ones
that didn’t get away.

Brendal Stevens, captain,
free-diver and chef – Abaco
In The Islands of The Bahamas,
every story starts with a smile.
I remember as clear as the water round Green Turtle Cay,
how excited those first folks were when we went conch diving
for our lunch. But it wasn’t just my cooking and spotting reef
sharks that made their trip, it was meeting my old friend
Georgette when she came up to the beach to be hand-fed
by everyone. Must be 20 years ago and I’m still doing the
trips, but now a whole family of rays comes to see us.

It might be a fish fry on the beach or a rake ‘n’ scrape band.

There's a tradition of storytelling in The Bahamas,
one we're bringing to a wider audience.
It’s long been said that once folks go to The Bahamas, they’ll keep on going, time
local characters will only be too happy to complete. With 48-sheet and cross-track
and time again. And if it wasn’t the colourful stories they’d heard about the islands
posters on the London Underground and Network Rail, ads in the national and
that led them out here in the first place, they’d surely be what brought them back.
specialist press, e-comms and even a new website – bahamas.co.uk – you’ll see us
Well, with our new advertising campaign, we’re continuing that storytelling
just about everywhere you go between now and March 2009. And your customers
tradition. Giving everyone an opening chapter, if you like, of the real-life tales the
will do the same. Which sounds to us like a real happy ending.
