The inclusion of “nature of science” (NOS) in the science
curriculum has been advocated for several decades. Teaching
and learning of NOS can help students understand how science
works and appreciate science as a key contributor to society.
Recent curriculum reform efforts including the Junior Cycle
Specification in Ireland have included NOS as a key component
of the science content. The definition of NOS is being debated
within the science education research community. This
symposium will bring together researchers, policy makers and
practitioners to review recent debates on NOS and discuss the
implications for the science curriculum, teacher education as
well as a classroom teaching and learning. The symposium will
be hosted by EPI•STEM, National Centre for STEM
Education based at University of Limerick, Ireland. The
programme includes plenary talks, paper presentations,
workshops and poster presentations.
The conference fee includes a programme pack, a wine reception, all
lunches, tea/coffee/biscuits, a Medieval Banquet dinner at Bunratty
Castle and a visit to the Cliffs of Moher. Professor Sibel Erduran
