Diploma in Law from the Law Society of Ireland | September 2015
The Diploma in Law has been created for those seeking a
greater knowledge of the law, professionals who would like to
gain new skills and, in turn, add value to their current roles,
and graduates keen to acquire new expertise and thinking of
a future career in law.
This diploma from the Diploma Centre of the Law Society
of Ireland has been developed to provide students with an
opportunity to study the law in an engaging and flexible
learning environment.
The programme is based on practical lectures, insights
and knowledge delivered by experienced practitioners. The
focus is on expanding your knowledge base, updating your
skills, and increasing your understanding of law and its
impact on people’s rights, interests and obligations.
How will I benefit from this Diploma in Law?
You will:
– Acquire substantive knowledge in the eight foundation topics of law,
– Achieve valuable legal writing skills,
– Learn how to carry out independent legal research,
– Gain exposure to many legal skills through practical workshops and problem-based learning, and
– Get a hands-on understanding of how the law impacts
on our personal and business lives.

year. We recognise that due to time or financial
restraints, some of our students may prefer to split
the course over two years.

About the Law Society of Ireland
A Diploma in Law designed for you
The Law Society is the educational, representative and
regulatory body of the solicitors’ profession in Ireland. It
exercises statutory functions under the Solicitors Acts 1954
to 2008 in relation to the education, admission, enrolment,
discipline and regulation of the solicitors’ profession.
– No previous legal knowledge necessary,
– Graduates and professionals from all disciplines welcome,
– Course presented by practising professionals,
– Option to take the course over one or two years.
About the Diploma Centre
This Diploma in Law is unique as it offers the course both
onsite and online. All lectures will be available both live
and archived via our webcasting facility, while workshops
must be attended onsite. The Diploma Centre App allows
students to download lectures and access them later when
offline, ideal for commuters. The diploma is spread over
one year with one weekly evening lecture (Wednesdays
6pm to 8.30pm) and a block session on a monthly basis
comprising Friday (lectures) and Saturday (workshops)
(9am to 5pm). Each of the eight modules will have a skills
session tailored to the particular topic and a separate
session on legal writing and examination techniques. An
online course forum is available to ask questions of the
lead tutor in each particular topic.

Ireland. Our primary aim is to enhance the skills and career
opportunities of solicitors by providing relevant, in-depth
courses geared to practitioners that impart practical
‘know-how’ as well as legal theory in specialised fields of
law.
