que ces deux mondes se mêlent l’un et l’autre.

« Je pense qu’agrandir un tournoi existant (Roland-Garros) est toujours
une bonne idée. J’ai lu qu’il y avait des soucis de blocage. Au ski, nous
avons parfois les mêmes problèmes. Il faut avoir à l’esprit que RolandGarros est un Grand Chelem, le seul sur terre battue. Il possède son
identité propre, comme Wimbledon. Il y a forcément des choses à faire,
des initiatives qui permettraient des retombées positives pour tout le
monde car c’est un tournoi qui intéresse des millions de personnes. Il
faut, de mon point de vue extérieur, absolument le développer et trouver
des solutions. »

Ce bâtiment sera installé à deux pas du court central. Il offrira
de nouveaux espaces de relations publiques et d’accueil (jardins
suspendus, terrasse panoramique, Village de Roland-Garros), ainsi
que des locaux et équipements dédiés à l’organisation sportive
et logistique de l’événement.

le court philippe-chatrier
Le court Philippe-Chatrier sera doté d’un toit rétractable
qui pourra être déployé en une quinzaine de minutes,
afin de garantir la continuité des matchs quelles que soient les
conditions météorologiques, et de permettre la tenue de sessions
de soirée. Le central, qui conserve ainsi son statut de stade
de plein air, baigné de lumière et de soleil, sera également
réaménagé pour améliorer le confort de ses différents publics.

la place des mousquetaires
Réaménagée en une vaste esplanade verte de plus d’un hectare
au cœur du stade, la nouvelle place des Mousquetaires est pensée
comme une zone de détente. Elle offrira un espace de respiration
et favorisera une meilleure fluidité des déplacements.
Hors tournoi, la place sera ouverte au public.

Modernisé, cet espace sera réaménagé en une zone
de compétition intégrant un court enterré de 2 200 places
et des courts annexes, avec des gradins permanents.
Le Fonds des Princes bénéficiera d’une meilleure accessibilité
grâce à une large allée paysagère.

En remplacement de l’actuel court n°1, un nouveau court,
de près de 5 000 places, sera érigé dans la partie sud-est du Jardin
des Serres d’Auteuil. Semi-enterré, le court des Serres sera enchâssé
entre 4 serres proposant l’exploration de la flore de 4 continents.
L’allée des serres, qui reliera le nouveau court au site historique,
offrira un lieu de respiration et de déambulation pour les
spectateurs.

The magic of Roland-Garros creates a multitude of emotions
which stay with many of us throughout our whole lives. This
magic has a future, in a new stadium… A cool breeze whistling softly through the trees, birds singing, rays of sunshine
warming the air, and of course the French Open… Summer is
different for each and every one of us, but the sound of tennis
balls bouncing on clay and the elegant swaying of racquets
always herald the arrival of the warmest season of the year.
Roland-Garros is a landmark – a forerunner of summer holidays, or for students, a period of hectic cramming. It reignites
a passion for the sport and its heroes, bringing families together. Some follow it from a distance, others more overtly –
from their desks in the office, their lounges or in the stands…
Roland-Garros has been part of our lives for so long, but it is
so much more than a few dates on the calendar – it is a rich
seam of emotions. Some of those emotions last a lifetime,
others are renewed every year. They are unchanging and seemingly guaranteed. These precious moments acted out at a
familiar landmark will soon take on an extra dimension in a
new stadium. Keeping the magic alive...
The Fonds des Princes
This area will be modernised and adapted to become a competition
area which includes a sunken 2,200-seater court and other outside
courts with permanent concrete stands. The Fonds des Princes will
have improved accessibility courtesy of a wide landscaped walkway.

that it deserves, and I am delighted about that, since this location
is part of my life. There is an obvious national heritage side to it,
the clay is unique, and all the best players throughout history have
come here to try to win the tournament. It’s the stuff of legends.»

The Place des Mousquetaires
The new Place des Mousquetaires will be adapted to form a vast
esplanade of greenery occupying over a hectare in the heart of the
stadium and designed as an area for rest and relaxation. It will give
spectators a chance to catch their breath for a while and also make
it easier for them to get around the stadium. Outside tournament
configuration it will also be open to the general public.
«I was 10 years old when Yannick Noah won Roland-Garros. This
victory magnified my will to win and it’s always been a source of
inspiration for me, particularly when I became world champion pâtissier a few years later. I still sometimes dream of this historic final.»

Tournament organisation building and Roland- Garros Village
The former building will be set up right next to Centre Court and
include new public relations and reception areas (hanging gardens,
panoramic terrace, Roland-Garros Village) as well as buildings and
facilities dedicated to the sporting and logistical organisation of the
event.
Philippe-Chatrier Court
Philippe-Chatrier Court will be fitted with a retractable roof which
can be closed in around 15 minutes, to guarantee continuity of
matches regardless of the weather, and to allow night sessions to be
played. Centre Court will thus remain an outdoor arena bathed in
sunlight, and it will also be modified to improve the comfort levels
of the various users.
«I think that expanding an existing tournament (Roland-Garros)
is always a good idea. I read that there had been some issues that
were blocking the expansion. We sometimes have the same problems in skiing. You need to bear in mind that Roland-Garros is a
Grand Slam, and the only one that is on clay. It has its own identity,
like Wimbledon. Obviously there are things that need to be done,
and initiatives that could create benefits for everyone involved because it’s a tournament which interests millions of people. From my
outside point of view, it absolutely needs to be developed and for
solutions to be found.»

The Court des Serres
To replace the current No.1 Court, a new court with almost 5,000
seats will be built in the south-east sector of the Jardin des Serres
d’Auteuil. The Court des Serres will be semi-sunken and surrounded by four greenhouses which will contain flora from four different
continents. The Allée des Serres will link the new court to the historic
site and provide an area for spectators to relax and stroll.
