Severe Weather Information
Dear Parents and Students,
With winter weather arriving soon, the Port
Huron Area School District would like to communicate our plan of school closures and potential schedule disruptions to help you become
more prepared. I would like to personally assure you that student safety is the absolute

factor in the final determination of these decisions.
We have numerous agencies and experts
providing support to help make the most informed decision possible.
PROCEDURE:
When the superintendent makes the decision to
close a school or the entire district, or have an
early dismissal or late arrival situation, the following methods will be taken to inform you:.
1.
2.
3.
Every effort will be made to make the
final decision by 4:45 a.m., except in extenuating circumstances or rapidly changing conditions.
Once the decision has been made, the
district has a communication chain that
will inform your school’s principal.
In the case of early dismissal, you will be
contacted by your school’s principal via
One Call Now. K – 8 students who are
not able to be picked up early will be
secure at the school and will wait to be
signed out for pick up in the cafeteria.
The sign out system will follow the established protocol at your student’s particular school. Special Education students
will have arrangements made by Special
Education services. she will also give
information on where students may be
dropped off at the school if a late arrival
arrangement is not possible.

In the case of a delayed start, you will
receive communication from your principal via One Call Now.
4.
To reinforce the confirmed closures,
delays, etc., the following will be contacted by the District: local radio and newspaper, CPHS-6 and Detroit affiliate television stations, PHASD website, PHASD
social media (Facebook and Twitter).
You will receive a text/phone message
confirmation via One Call Now. If your

Candy Cane Workshop
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
If you want to participate in any activity in the schools (example: field trips, field
day, candy cane workshop, birthdays in the classrooms etc. you must have an
approved volunteer form on file in the office 3 days prior to the event. If you do
not have one on file you will not be able to participate. If you have more than
one child in our school only one form needs to be filled out per adult. These
forms are only approved for one calendar school year and need to be complete
each year. Please stop into the office and fill out a volunteer form or contact us
and we will be happy to send one home with your child.
Our annual PTA sponsored Candy
Cane Workshop is scheduled for
Thursday December 18th. Please watch
for packets coming home soon with
your child.
Innovative Education at Crull Elementary
Innovative Education is
happening at Howard D Crull
and the Port Huron Area
School District!
The hour of code is coming!
The week of December 8- 14
the Port Huron Area School
District will be participating in
the hour of code. Coding is the
writing of scripts for Computer
Science. During this week
students in our Elementary
Technology classes will get to
experiment with Coding. If
your interesting in giving your
students a chance to practice
coding try one of these sites.

Since the start of the school
year Howard D Crull
Elementary School has
implemented 5 one to one
technology classrooms! The
technology has been purchased
using Title I dollars over the
course of the last 4 years. A
technology group of teachers
and staff recently met to discuss
how we could continue to push
the boundaries innovation and
technology in the classroom.
The group decided to assign
computers and ipads to 2 classes
of 4th graders and 2 classes of 5th
graders. So far we have had a
great response from students
and parents of children getting
this unique opportunity to
collaborate, explore and create
using technology.
Google products. Did you know
all of our students 2nd through
5th grade have access to G-Mail
Accounts? The Port Huron Area
School District is able to do this
with the use of Google
Education Products. This
“on-line” software comes with
an unlimited ability to
collaborate and develop skills
using technology. Instead of
teachers grading writing
assignments when students are
finished they can work with the
students in real time. Students
can also build websites,
collaborate with other students
on google documents, e-mail
teachers, and have virtual
classrooms using Google Classroom. In some of our very own
Howard D Crull Elementary
classrooms students can be found
e-mailing their parents projects
and even end of the day progress
reports! Find out more about
what Google is doing for
Education and expect to see
more digital products from our
amazing Comets!
