Merry Christmas!
As we move towards the end of 2014 we
would like to thank all our dedicated
and highly skilled national staff for their
continuing efforts during a challenging
year in terms of the economy with our
core markets of retail, industrial and
infrastructure remaining depressed.
We hope you all enjoyed reading your
last copy of the Trivantage Times and for
those who participated, enjoyed a win on
the Melbourne Cup.
With Christmas fast approaching this
newsletter includes an addictive and
easy summer themed recipe, Christmas
jokes, a new puzzle to keep you thinking
and all the adorable new babies! As
always we have our regular features
with the inclusion on what’s happening
within the company, new staff details,
our Chief Executive Officers message,
and much more.
We also have a new competition for the
kids over the summer holidays. Check
out page 11 for more details.
As always, we thank you for your
support and ideas, please keep them

During this time the Trivantage Group
have not only continued to concentrate
on our core business activities but also
made the strategic decision to invest in the
recruitment of additional skilled resources
to develop new product offerings such as
the establishment of Trivantage Power and
our Major Projects Group to further expand
our National end to end products offered.
The Trivantage Group executive
management team are confident that
the company’s strategy will continue to
strengthen its growth potential as revenues
from these new business areas grow in the
coming year.

MSSB’s on time, John Braniff for leading the
site crew, and all those who contributed to
the site installation.
Swinburne University, Advanced
Manufacturing Centre
Ladd Electric was contracted to Allstaff
Air-Conditioning for the mechanical
electrical installation at Swinburne
University, the new Advanced
Manufacturing Centre in Hawthorn. It
was a complex project requiring lots of
effort at design stage for the Mechanical
Switchboards in regard to the “Fire
Matrix” associated with the smoke control
management.

A Tri-generation system supplied by
Simons Green Energy was also installed
on this project and we were engaged
to wire all the controls to the field
equipment and the required interfacing
to the Chillers and Main Switchboard.
The remainder of the project involved
wiring of AHU’s, Supply & Extraction Fans,
Fume Cupboards and Scrubber Fans,
Adiabatic Air Cooled Chillers, Water Cooled
Chillers, Boiler plant, pumps, CRAC units,
and smoke dampers. We also designed
and manufactured 10 off Mechanical
Switchboards.
I would like to thank Eric Long for his
Engineering and Design, Frank Franjkovic
for the manufacturing and delivery of
Ronald McDonald House, WA
Trevor Bland from the SEME team in
WA has secured an order to supply
and install security, CCTV and access
control equipment for the new Ronald
McDonald House, being built next to the
New Children’s Hospital in the suburb of
Nedlands.
This $29m project was fiercely competitive
due to the prestigious nature and high
profile of the project being built by Doric.

The new RMH will cater for over 1000
families per year or 180 people per night
and will have a roof top garden, larger
rooms and landscaped surrounds – a great
improvement on their current 24 year old
facility located in Subiaco
The RMH is due to open at the completion
of the New Children’s Hospital in 2015.

specification and attention to detail in
our submission was outstanding and I
am sure this was the defining point in us

being awarded the project” said Andrew

improve our profile on-site as we will be
supplying room lighting and air conditioner

Telstra Clayton Telephone
Exchange, Generator No 5 Install
Telstra Clayton Telephone Exchange site in
the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne
has seen a number of new and upgraded
projects over recent years. The latest
project has seen Ladd Electric undertake
the installation of the new fifth High
Voltage generator set. The contract was
awarded in September to Ladd Electric
by Brookfield Johnson Controls who are
responsible for managing the project for
Telstra.
The project will run for approximately
five months having kicked off in October.
Extensive testing of the new system
will be undertaken in conjunction with
Telstra’s controls system contractor and an
independent commissioning agent prior to
the project handover.
The installation team on the site is lead
by the Site Manager Shiloh Phillips with
Tony Wright as Site Foreman. This is
Ladd Electrics first installation project for
Brookfield Johnson Controls at the Clayton
Exchange and we look forward to continuing
and enhancing a strong working relationship
with them.

Operations Manager
The new high voltage generator no. 5
project consists of the installation of a new
11 KV generator to add to the existing four
generators installed in the purpose built
Energy centre. Ladd Electric, as principle
contractor, is managing a number of
subcontractors including mechanical,
exhaust and high voltage install. The work
areas are small and require outstanding
coordination and understanding between
all trades to ensure a safe working
environment while meeting the required
tight programme timelines.
Group CCTV recently completed upgrades
to nurse call systems in several Mackay
and surrounding area hospitals including
Prosperine, Emerald, Bowen and Moranbah
as well as a large project out at Grosvenor
Mine which included the installation of
access control and CCTV systems.
The biggest project still underway at the
moment is the Good Shepard Kerrisdale
Gardens Project. Kerrisdale Gardens is
located in North Mackay and is a high end
aged care facility. Group CCTV has been
contracted and are currently undertaking
installation of CCTV, access control, data,
fibre and the nurse call systems. The team
have been onsite for the past 2 months and
the Kerrisdale Project is expected to run
until May 2015.

National Phasefale to Emerson
E2 Rollout
For the past few years SJ Electric in
conjunction with Emerson Climate
Technologies have been upgrading the
refrigeration controllers in approximately
300 Woolworths Supermarkets nationally.
Special thanks to Geoff Buckley, Blake Henry,
Marc Caperna, Justin Geaney, and all staff
involved both in the offices and onsite for your
assistance in ensuring this project runs as
smoothly as possible.

Refrigeration Supervisor SJE QLD
Through the development of a Gateway
Card by Emerson, the refrigeration
controllers were able to be upgraded to
the latest technology without having to
replace any of the other hardware. This
has been very beneficial to Woolworths as
the new controllers and ultrasite software
enable all site temperatures, pressures,
power usage etc. to be centrally monitored
in Hong Kong for logging, graphing and
record keeping.
Due to the sheer number and varying
ages of the stores we faced many different
challenges but due to the teams involved
in each state, we were able to overcome
these hurdles whilst keeping the customer
happy.
Manufacturing Update
We are nearing the end of another year
and what a year it has been. It will be
remembered by huge effort of all on the
largest project completed this year VCCC
– The Victorian Comprehensive Cancer
Centre – a new 1 billion dollar facility
purpose built for cancer research.
After more than a year of design VCCC
manufacturing part of the project was
accelerated and main switchboards for
switch room 1 and 2, time critical Data
Centre and 7200A generator switchboard
were completed in less than 6 months. We are now working on hundreds of
custom built distribution panels and
completing variations on the switchboards
installed on site.
We have managed to keep designing
and manufacturing switchboards for our
other regular and new clients as well as
for VCCC project by sharing workloads

between SJ and Ladd sales, design and
manufacturing teams and once again we
have proved that our “can do” attitude and
a few extra hours each week had given
our sales team an opportunity to approach
existing and new clients and win work by
promising switchboards deliveries in record
times with confidence that our team will
deliver on time.

I would like to thank Guenter Maier for
all the efforts on VCCC project and wish
him happy retirement. I would also like to
thank all involved in VCCC project for extra
efforts, extra weekends and late nights –
our designers, managers and especially our
fitters.

Narromine Stock and Domestic
Pipeline
The Narromine Private Irrigation district
of New South Wales has upgraded their
Stock and Domestic pipeline. This pipeline
delivers irrigation water to farm properties
through a new pressurised pipeline spaning
over 180Km.
CEI’s involvement in this project undertook
the complete electrical design and
installation including all switchboard
works, the river station and instrument
install, the new booster pump set with all
pump station instrumentation, general
light and power along with software design.
CEI’s scope of works also included the
remote monitoring of each farm property.

Each farm property has a remotely read
Flow (water) meter installed, enabling the
irrigation board to track account usage.
To achieve the remote monitoring of each
flowmeter an observant package system
was installed. Each farm property has a
remote module installed; each module is
separately powered from a solar panel. Of
the 55 modules installed, 12 modules act as
the primary site relaying information from
each surrounding modules to the dedicated
web site. The Primary modules have a G3
modem and antenna connected while the
secondary modules communicate by radio
up to 10km away.
The Electrical installation incorporates a
new main switchboard. Well done Michael
on the design and once again cheers to the
Ladd’s switchboard crew for another top
job.
The Irrigation pipeline was handed over
on the 29th of October fully functional,
with great client feedback. Thanks to the
CEI crew for the efforts while working
away from your family, your effort is much
appreciated.

The river station draws water from the
Macquarie River via a submersible guide
rail pump which is VSD controlled. This
pump delivers irrigation water to the tanks
installed as part of this project.
From the storage tanks the irrigation water
is delivered through to each farm property,
controlled from a booster pump set which
pressurises the 180Km of pipeline. The
Booster set is controlled from a Grundfos
management system along with the use of
level and pressure instrumentation. This
management system can also be remotely

WHAT’S HAPPENING?
Gateways Shopping Centre Latest
in Lighting
Gateways shopping centre has created
the latest in Led lighting throughout
the building and also the exterior of the
building.
The Led light bars were installed by SJ
Electric WA on the glass panel on the front
awning of the building. This was a very
teething installation as it had to be installed
with only millimetres to play.
The Led lighting strips were also installed
as a honeycomb feature in the ceiling and
around the bulkheads and around the glass
at a high level in the main foyer; all being
a main feature to the client. The external
car park had over 150 light poles which had
single and double Led lights. Led lights
were also installed in the basement car
park.
Credit has to be given to all the staff that
worked on the project to achieve this
milestone of the Grand Opening on the 30th
Oct 2014. Well done!

Target Mt Gravatt
SJ Electric QLD recently completed a
Complete Target Fit Out at Garden City
Shopping Centre, Mt Gravatt Brisbane.
Working in conjunction with Hutchinson
Builders, the SJE QLD team headed by Michael
Lassen and Gary Robertson completed this
project on time and on budget.
The works were made quite difficult due to
the store not having a T/Bar ceiling and all the
lighting fixtures were drilled into the concrete
slab.
Congratulations to all the SJ Electric team
members that completed an excellent job with
Target commenting how satisfied they were
with the project.
Also a special thanks to Luke Hart and Daniel
Jones for the completion of the Aldi Fit Out at
the same shopping centre.

OPERATION
CHRISTMAS CHILD
Through Samaritan’s Purse, Trivantage WA was
able to participate in Operation Christmas Child.
Samaritan’s Purse specialises in meeting the
immediate, critical needs of victims of conflict,
disaster, famine, and epidemics throughout the
world, providing emergency food, water, shelter,
medicine and other life-saving assistance. Since its
inception in 1993, Operation Christmas Child has
provided more than 100 million shoeboxes filled
with educational items, toys, clothing, and hygiene
products to kids in over 130 countries during the
holiday season. This year, Trivantage WA prepared
40 shoeboxes for underprivileged children around
the world. Great work team!
Raising money for Bowel Cancer Research
Earlier this year, Trivantage were the gold sponsor of
a Trivia night held by the Fastuca Family Fundraisng
team. The aim of the night was to raise money to
support the Royal Melbourne Hospital testing to
reduce the progression of Bowel Cancer. Organiser
Grace Fastuca says:
“The Trivantage Trivia Night was a huge success
and our best fundraising individual effort for the 3
months we were actively fundraising and raised a
great $3,500 with huge help from our Gold sponsor
Trivantage. We had over 130 in attendance and the
night ran a lot longer than expected basically because
we were having too much fun to curtail any of the
planned events of the night. We gave away over 15
raffle prizes on the night and with our many helpers,
had a very successful night.
On behalf of the Fastuca Family Fundraising, I would
like to thank Trivantage for their generous donation
to our cause, bowel cancer research. Bowel cancer
has taken too many lives, including many in my
immediate family, and it continues to affect my
family’s daily existence as a genetic condition means
we have to be ever vigilant and even then, it still
sneaks up on us. We continue to fund raise and are
hoping to raise over $100,000 next year with a major
walk from Sydney to Melbourne planned. For more

3fold Community Development
Trivantage has been working for 3fold Resources on the Coles Supermarket Self Scan rollouts and recently assisted their
community program by attending the 2014 Dinner Dance and donating one of the auction prizes! The night was a great
success and raised over $10,000, which will assist in actively supporting orphanages and schools in under developed
countries and youth support programmes here in Australia.
Mid-West Spina Bifida
To celebrate the Melbourne Cup, Trivantage WA held a Gold coin BBQ to help raise money for Mid-West Spina Bifida; a cause
close to the heart of Ian Henry (Project Manager), who will be participating in the Iron Man Busselton on behalf of this cause.
That’s a 3.8km swim, 180km cycle and a 42.2km run to be held on December 7th. WA are happy to say that they raised $300
for Ian and Mid-West Spina Bifida and wish him all the best for the Iron Man race!

Tell us a bit about yourself? I live in Gingin,
WA on 55 acres with my partner Kathy and
her two daughters Aleece 25 and Katelyn
20. Kathy gets a real laugh when l am on a
horse, the girls have been teaching me to
ride, well let’s just say sit on a horse! With
all the things the girls do with the horses,
pony club, events, shows, l thought that I
would like to get more involved so l decided
that if l was to be involved with the horses
then l would do in hand work. In hand work
is where you actually lead the horse into
an arena with a lead rein and walk and trot
them out for the judges. Yes the handler and
horse are both judged.
We have six horses at the moment, Katelyn
has three, Classy 24yr Stock Horse 14.2
Hands High, Rudey 6yr Thoroughbred
16 Hands High, and Jack 6yr Clydesdale
Cross 17 Hands High. Aleece also has
three, Pilgrim, Maddie and Pudgie, all
thoroughbreds and she also competes with
the horses.
When l am not at a show you can guess
that my time on weekends is fixing fences,
building stables, slashing paddocks and
fixing horse floats. Yes and l enjoy doing it,
but don’t tell the girls!!

Banana Mug Cake
Simple, delicious, satisfying and highly addictive, this will become a
firm favourite.
Makes 1 mug cake
Ingredients
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp cinnamon
1 pinch salt
1/2 spotty overripe banana
1 tbsp sunflower oil
1 tbsp apple sauce
Name: Matt Harley
1 tbsp milk, soured with a little lemon juice (leave to stand for 10
minutes)

Thickened cream and chopped nuts, to top
Directions
1. In a large mug, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon
and salt. Mash the banana and add to the mug, followed by the oil,
apple sauce, soured milk, egg yolk and vanilla, then stir very well until
completely blended.
2. Make sure there are no lumps on the bottom of the mug and cook in
the microwave on high for two and a half to three minutes. NB: don’t
overcook.
3. Once cooked, add a dollop of thickened cream on top and sprinkle
over nuts. Enjoy!
Top tip: Make a cream cheese topping instead of the thickened cream
by mixing icing sugar and softened cream cheese well together.

water skiing and hunting. These take up
all my money so I can’t have any other
hobbies….
If you were trapped on a deserted island

stuck with and why? My 2 best mates as
when we together all hell breaks loose no
matter where we are haha!
Proudest Moment? Birth of my daughter
19months ago.
How do you plan to spend your Christmas
holiday? At home relaxing as my wife will be
working so some daddy time will be in order.

With the hot weather fast approaching, I’m sure many of you will be
spending a lot of your spare time at some of our beautiful beaches! In true
Australian tradition, a beach visit isn’t complete without the addition of
Sandcastles!

looking sandcastle over the summer holidays by taking a photo and sending

Always remember the most important
Christmas present you can give your
family is life, your life. So I ask you to
remain focused on safety and be mindful
of the potential hazards and dangers that
surround you your family and friends over
the festive season, and on return to work
in 2015 be focused and remain diligent
in your efforts to protect the safety and
health of not only yourselves but that of
others.
The festive season is here again and it’s
time to put work to the side and enjoy the
happiest time of the year and enjoy the
moments of Christmas and New Year with
your family and friends.
But as we celebrate let us remain focused
on safety and be mindful of the potential
hazards and dangers that surround you
and your family and friends. Also let
us take a minute of silence for the 159
workers who have died from workplace
injuries this year 3 of which were
electrical related.

(Electrician) for clocking up an impressive 30
years between them both at SJ Electric QLD!
Mark has worked at SJE QLD for 20 years as of
October and Tim 10 years as of September.

A fond farewell to Geoff Legge who retired on June 27th after 4 years with

Alfie Liam into the world on 2nd of September 2014 at 4:47pm. Alfie was 3745g
and 52cm long. They couldn’t be happier and we don’t think we’ve seen Liam

How long have you worked for SJ Electric? 2 and a half years.
Favorite holiday destination? Byron Bay – for its beautiful beaches, lovely weather
and the relaxed atmosphere.
Hobbies / Interests? Playing netball, going for runs, going for trips in my van, going
to the beach and going to music concerts.
What are you looking forward to most over the Christmas holidays? I can’t wait to
have Christmas lunch with my family and to get away in the van down the beach.

Congratulations to AJ Opalinski (Trivantage WA - Project Manager)
and Robyn Opalinski on their beautiful wedding. They held the
ceremony on Sunday 28th September in Sunset Beach, Geraldton.
Congratulations to Grant Fennell (Service Supervisor, SJE QLD) for
winning the Nudgee Golf Clubs Presidents Trophy Final. A sold out
crowd attended the Nudgee Golf Club Champions Dinner on the 10th
November 2014 with guest speaker Ian Baker-Finch where Grant
was awarded his hard earned trophy. Congratulations Grant on this
wonderful achievement!
Brandon Neukother (Welder, CCS) and his wife Melissa were
married on the 15th of November. Congratulations to you both!
Engagements
On September 19th Sean Jones (WA - Electrician) got down on
one knee before partner Melissa and she very happily accepted
his proposal. We wish you both all the happiness for your future
together!

How to Train Your Dragon 2
Having a toddler requesting the same movie
over and over can be quite monotonous…I can
almost recite Finding Nemo off by heart. So
it came time to find a movie I wouldn’t mind
watching over and over – Intro How to Train
Your Dragon 2!
How to Train Your Dragon 2 is a 3D computeranimated action fantasy film produced by
Dreamworks Animation and distributed by
20th Century Fox, loosely based on the book
series of the same name by Cressida Cowell.
It is also the sequel to the 2010 film How to
Train Your Dragon.
It’s been five years since Hiccup and Toothless
successfully united dragons and Vikings on
the island of Berk. The now inseparable pair
journey through the skies, charting unmapped
territories and exploring new worlds. When
one of their adventures leads to the discovery
of a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of
new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon
Rider, the two friends find themselves in the
centre of a battle to protect the peace.
Dreamworks have created a vivid, sprawling
fantasy world that makes you feel like you
are soaring above the clouds with Hiccup
and Toothless. Not to mention the action
sequences of this movie are armrest-gripping
fun!
I know it’s rare for a sequel – animated or
otherwise – to live up to its predecessor, but I
definitely enjoyed this film more than the first.
The movie wore its heart openly and honestly
atop its armour and had more action than the
first. And finally I’ve found a movie I don’t mind
watching a million, zillion times!
