MONTESSORI SCHOOLS
ARE UNIQUE
BECAUSE EVERY CHILD
IS UNIQUE.
Over 100 years ago, Dr. Maria Montessori discovered that a child
learns best within a social environment which supports and respects
individual development. As an authentic Montessori school, we offer
Toddler and Early Childhood (18 months to 6 years) programs
designed to build a strong academic foundation, as well as
to foster social, emotional, physical, and moral advancement.
To learn more about the Montessori Method of education, please call for information; we will be happy to answer your
questions and offer a tour of our
beautiful school, which is only 3 miles north of the Village of Clarkston.

1:8, Four and a half to six years old
1:12, Grade one through eight
Ages accepted:
2 ½ and up
Special features: Play is at the heart of the Waldorf Early Childhood program. The children engage in
playful activities both indoors and outdoors and experience the wonder of the changing climate. In play,
children develop the capacity for creative thinking, problem solving, and social skills through their
imaginative interactions and in teacher-directed activities. The structured and supported use of play in the
Oakland Steiner School Early Childhood program lays a strong foundation for future academic success. The
children listen to fairy and folk tales, they watch puppet plays and participate in dramatic play all of which
strengthen their power of memory, comprehension, and imagination. The stories, songs and nursery
rhymes told in class cultivate in the children a love for the wonders and joyful world of language.
Participating in counting games and rhythmic activities as well as in the daily activities of bread baking,
cooking, and table setting build the foundational experience for learning mathematics, sequencing, and
number skills. Learning about the physical world through large and small motor work and imitative play
prepares the child for studying the sciences. All of these learning activities are held in daily and seasonal
rhythms that connect the children to the world around them and instill a sense of gratitude and reverence.
Philosophy/Mission statement: Oakland Steiner School's Early Childhood program provides a
nurturing foundation for the growing child. By nourishing the mind and the senses through a healthy,
beauty-filled environment, our program fosters the development of the whole child. Each classroom is
warm, inviting, cared for and intentionally filled with beautiful, natural materials. Wood, seashells, beeswax
for modeling and handcrafted dolls and toys encourage children to create and form games and stories. The
Early Childhood room is a gentle place where children can imagine freely while feeling safe and
comfortable.

Months of Operation: Year-round
About us: Quality child care can make a big difference in the future of our children, our
county, our state and our country. A good place to begin your search for answers to your
child care questions is a trusted local resource. The Oakland County Child Care Council
provides resources and referral information for families.
We conduct skill-building workshops for parents, hold low-cost professional development
classes for child care providers and work with businesses to find child care solutions for
their employees. We are advocates on child care issues for the community. We are
dedicated to promoting the well being of Oakland County's children.
The Oakland County Child Care Council has been advocating and promoting quality child
care since 1973. The Council is funded by public and private sources. It is a membership
agency that is governed by a board of directors and managed by a professional staff.
Philosophy/Mission statement: Coordinating and developing quality child care and related
resources for families and caregivers.
