Ferrari LaFerrari FXX K Snapped on Maranello Streets
With production of the extreme Ferrari LaFerrari FXX K strictly limited to a mere 32 units with most of those yet to
be produced, seeing one absolutely anywhere is exceptionally rare. Nonetheless, Czech Exotics managed to
stumble on a LaFerrari FXX K not testing at the Italian marque’s Fiorano test track but actually on the streets of
Maranello!
As the images show, the LaFerrari FXX K was only on the street immediately outside the Ferrari factory. It also
featured see-through blue tape across some of the delicate components such as the front splitter, side skirts and
headlights.
Beneath the skin, the LaFerrari FXX K features a tuned version of the LaFerrari’s 6.3-litre V12 engine and electric
motor powertrain. Rather than the 950 hp delivered by the road car, the LaFerrari FXX K produces a potent 1021 hp
and over 664 lb-ft of torque. Of that power, 835 hp comes from the naturally-aspirated V12 while the remaining 188
hp comes from the upgraded electric motor. Mated to this potent powertrain is a seven-speed paddle-shift dual
clutch transmission.
To achieve the extra power, the V12 has been installed with new camshafts, revised intake manifolds, a redesigned
valve train as well as mechanical tappets. Elsewhere, the exhaust system has been changed while the HY-KERS
system now provides four different driving modes. These are Qualify Mode, Long Run, Manual Boost and Fast
Charge.
While the Italian firm has yet to announce just how fast the LaFerrari FXX K is, it should hit 100 km/h in around the
2.5 second mark as well as a theoretical top speed well in excess of the 350 km/h achievable by the road car. All
told, the LaFerrari FXX K is 194 mm longer and 59 mm wider than the standard car but maintains the same 1116
mm height of the road car. (CE)

Rare 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione Going to Auction
At RM Sotheby’s Villa Erba sale on May 23rd at Italy’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este weekend, a rare 1960
Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione will cross the auction block.
This particular Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione is the 20th of 164 examples created and chassis
number 1953 GT was one of a mere 45 lightweight examples built in 1960 with a full aluminum body. Beneath the
skin, it is powered by a potent V12 engine delivering 280 hp.
Unlike many other 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competiziones, 1953 GT wasn’t actually delivered with the intention of
being raced. As a matter of fact, it was initially owned by Cesare Marchi, a Florence-based doctor, who used it on
the road until parting ways with it in 1972. It was sold to a Californian owner and over the following years, passed
through the ownership of a selection of other North American enthusiasts.
A complete restoration was then completed in the early 1990s by Motion Products and after being displayed at a
number of concours events across the U.S, it was then sold to a Japanese collector who owned it for 10 years. The
current owner then acquired it back in 2011 and has since made appearances at Silverstone Classic, the
Goodwood Member’s Meeting, Goodwood Revival and Donington Historic Festival.
Discussing the car, managing director RM Sotheby’s Europe, Max Girardo said “There are a handful of truly iconic
cars that auction houses highly desire to bring to market, and the Ferrari 250 SWB Berlinetta is one of them. This
car is unique for not having been raced in period, but that is something which has really contributed to the
preservation and integrity of its original chassis and aluminum bodywork. This will undoubtedly be one of the major
cars to be offered at any auction during 2015.”

Ferrari Work Harder Than Others, Says Technical Director
Ferrari technical director James Allison believes hard work has paid off after the team ended a 34-race victory
drought on Sunday.
Sebastian Vettel’s win in the Malaysian Grand Prix was Ferrari’s first since Fernando Alonso took the chequered
flag at the Spanish Grand Prix in May 2013.
Allison, who has previously worked for Benetton and Lotus, embarked on his second spell at Ferrari in July 2013
and, as such, Sunday’s win was the first since his return to Maranello.
The Englishman suggests a victory in the famous red of Ferrari is a feeling like no other in Formula One, while also
citing hard graft for the team’s return to form.
“Everybody here won't be able to find proper words to tell you how wonderful it is,” Allison said, per ESPN. “It feels
[good] to win in any color, but there is something absolutely fantastic about this team. Every team works hard, but at
Ferrari they work especially hard.”
Just how much progress Ferrari have made will become more apparent in the coming races, but a podium finish in
Australia plus Sunday’s win leaves Vettel with 40 points, just three behind leader Lewis Hamilton.
Vettel’s teammate, Kimi Raikkonen, has collected just 12 points from the opening two races, but he has won for
Ferrari at the Chinese Grand Prix—the next race on the calendar—before after taking the chequered flag in 2007.
Indeed, the Shanghai International Circuit has been a good hunting ground for Ferrari since its introduction to the
sport in 2004, with the Maranello outfit winning four of the 11 races staged in China. (Jamie Casey)

NASCAR Commentator Steve Byrnes Has Died Of Cancer At 56
Fox Sports' NASCAR announcer Steve Byrnes died Tuesday, April 21, after losing his long battle to cancer. He was
56.
Byrnes' family confirmed the announcer's death with a statement to Fox Sports. "Mr. Steven Patrick Byrnes, age 56,
of Fort Mill, S.C., went to be with the Lord on April 21, 2015," the statement read. "Steve enjoyed a successful and
highly respected television broadcasting career for 30 years. He joined the FOX Sports family in 2001, hosting and
reporting for multiple NASCAR programs and serving as a pit road reporter for NASCAR on FOX's broadcast of
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races from 2001-2014."
The network also released a statement to Us Weekly on Tuesday, confirming the broadcaster's death. "It is with
tremendous difficulty and deep personal sadness that FOX Sports acknowledges the passing of longtime FOX
NASCAR broadcaster, Steve Byrnes, after a lengthy battle with cancer," the network told Us.
"A symbol of strength, compassion and dignity, Steve, 56, was a source of inspiration to everyone, sharing his fight
in a very courageous and public way. Honored just days ago at Bristol Motor Speedway with the FOOD CITY 500
IN SUPPORT OF STEVE BYRNES AND STAND UP TO CANCER, race fans, race teams, NASCAR and track
officials, co-workers, friends and family came together to surround him with a remarkable display of love and
respect. A shining example of husband, father, friend and consummate professional, Steve Byrnes will forever be
remembered as one of the good guys — his time with us cherished and appreciated."
Prior to his death, Byrnes was a play-by-play announcer and co-host for NASCAR. Before joining Fox Sports, he
reported for CBS, TNN, and WTBS.
During his long career covering NASCAR, he also got to know many of the drivers on a personal level, including
Dale Earnhardt Jr., Danica Patrick, and others. (Esther Lee)

Motor Racing-Ferrari to Play 'Carrot and Stick' with Raikkonen
MANAMA, April 20 (Reuters) - Ferrari are prepared to play a game of 'carrot and stick' with Kimi Raikkonen to keep
Formula One's top Finn performing at his best. The 2007 world champion, still Ferrari's most recent title winner, is
out of contract at the end of the year although the Italian team has an option of keeping him alongside Sebastian
Vettel.
Team principal Maurizio Arrivabene, who took on the job last November, told reporters at the Bahrain Grand Prix
that the decision would depend on the 35-year-old's performance on the track. Raikkonen responded immediately
by finishing second on Sunday for his first podium finish since he was at Lotus in 2013 and first for Ferrari since
2009. "Every driver here in the paddock wants to drive for Ferrari, this is normal. Even guys that were quite a lot of
time world champion. I'm happy with the drivers that we have," commented Arrivabene afterwards. "This does not
mean that I am going to sign with Kimi tomorrow," he added with a smile, having announced that he felt the real
Raikkonen was back, the one who seized his championship against the odds with a string of late wins rather than
the one who sometimes looked a bit bored in 2009.
"We are very clear. I repeat again: I said to Kimi, 'look, It depends on your performance' and he has demonstrated
that he's a great driver. So if you ask me now, does he deserve to renew the option, now today
I am going to say yes. "But if I am going to say yes, I don't want the driver to fall asleep. So I want to keep him up.
Kimi is giving the best when he is a bit in trouble," said the Italian, making clear that the contract was the carrot
being dangled.
"This is a psychological approach. So the paper at the moment is white. Sometimes I have to take the pen, then
take it back. And Kimi is going to the podium."
Raikkonen, who returned to Ferrari last year, has said he is enjoying life at Ferrari more than ever. "This year is the
best that I have had in any team; how the team works together, how people work together, how the atmosphere is
and how things are being run. That tells you a lot. I'm very happy," he said last week. (Reporting by Alan Baldwin,

Maserati Approves $3.2 Million Dollar LaMaserati Super Car?
Sources within Maserati have told us that a successor to the MC12 Stradale, which is the fastest Maserati ever
made, has been approved for development.
As the Italian premium brand is rapidly growing its range of models and directly targeting German car buyers (think
Porsche Panamera and BMW 5 Series), a halo vehicle is needed. Sister brand Ferrari will supply the tech and the
engineering expertise while in-house designers will try to make something that reminds everybody of the Ghibli or
Levante.
Hopefully, this is just what's needed to boost sales. Maserati currently has two brand new sedans, the Ghibli and
Quattroporte, with plans to add an SUV soon, widely expected to be the most popular model. (Agent009)

Extreme Ferrari 458 Speciale With Fi Exhaust in Monaco!
With a roaring 4.5-litre V8 engine loud enough to make V12-powered supercars take notice, the Ferrari 458
Speciale is undoubtedly a beast. The following example however, is even more extreme thanks to its fitment of an
aftermarket Frequency Intelligent exhaust system!
As the following videos show, this 458 Speciale has been in Monaco for the Top Marques Monaco show and thanks
to its screaming exhaust, has been causing chaos through the hills above the small principality. Alongside the
Frequency Intelligent exhaust, it has also been installed with a Marlboro inspired livery and a set of R3 wheels.

2015 Ferrari California T "Tailor Made" Edition
Ferrari has introduced a bespoke California T created by the company’s Tailor Made division at the 2015 Shanghai
Auto Show.
Built specifically for the Chinese
show, the California T "Tailor Made" illustrates how Ferrari’s
customization program allows clients to commission unique cars. The bespoke convertible joins the FF Dressage
Edition and the F12berlinetta Polo Edition, which Ferrari unveiled with the same purpose when it opened its first
Tailor Made Center in Asia Pacific in 2014.
But while the Dressage and Polo Editions were inspired by horsemanship and the game of polo, respectively, they
also celebrated the Chinese Year of the Horse. The California T "Tailor Made" is inspired by two style icons from the
past: actress Ingrid Bergman and former First Lady of the U.S., Jacqueline Kennedy. As usual, the Italians opted for
an understated exterior and an extensively customized interior, with all sorts of unique and luxurious features.
Much like the FF Tailor Made showcased a few months ago, this California T is here to prove there’s always room
to improve a Ferrari. (Ciprian Florea)

Ferrari Set for 'Big Engine Upgrade'
Ferrari's hopes to catch up with and move past Mercedes will get a major boost ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix,
according to a report.
Following their disastrous 2014 campaign, the Scuderia have bounced back strongly so far this season with
Sebastian Vettel winning in Malaysia while the team have been on the podium in the other three races.
It is a major step forward for Italian squad, who were thought to lack Mercedes' engine by 50bhp in 2014, but they
know the SF15-T needs to improve further.
With the early-season flyways done and dusted, most teams will do major car upgrades ahead of the first European
race in Spain on May 10, but Sky Sports F1 reports that "Ferrari will use up to of half of their remaining 10 engine
development 'tokens' by bringing a revised engine to the Canadian race in early June".
It adds that "Ferrari are understood to be estimating a step forward in performance of 20-30 brake horsepower from
the upgrade, which will use up around five of their 'tokens'."

ADVICE
Clearing the Air: Keeping Your Car Free of Pollen, Inside and Out
Spring is here, and unfortunately for some of us, that means airborne tree pollen is, too. The powdery green stuff
wreaks havoc with those who are allergic to it, but it can also make a mess of your car, both inside and out. Here
are a few tips to hopefully help you breathe easier, and to protect yourself and your car from pollen.
Clean your cabin air filter
Most cars built since around the year 2000 have an air filter for the interior that can screen out not just pollen and
other airborne pollutants. Cabin filters also prevent your heater core and air conditioner from becoming clogged,
thereby reducing efficiency. But it's an easy filter to ignore, especially if you don't know your car has one. Mechanics
we spoke with said they have seen vehicles that were equipped to house a filter, but did not come from the factory
with one—presumably this was on lower-trim level models. In these cases, the filtration could be added by simply
installing a filter. (Not sure if you’re vehicle is equipped with a filter? Check your owner's manual.)
The good news is that in the world of particulate matter, pollen bits are relatively large and easy for the filter to trap.
Cabin filters are usually relatively easy to locate and change yourself. They're normally located under the hood,
often near the base of the windshield, or behind the glove compartment. Your owner's manual should tell you how
to do it and how often it needs to be changed. Most manufacturers recommend changing the filter at least once a
year and more often in dusty conditions. If you can recall the last time it was changed, right about now would
probably be a great time. Replacements can be found at auto parts stores, and you can save if you do it yourself.
Expect to spend $10-35 for the filter, although some higher end models might cost more. If you have a dealer do the
job, it might cost as much as $100 or more.
Keep the outside clean
Pollen may not look abrasive, but wiping it off the car or even leaning on a pollen-coated fender can cause
scratches. The best bet is to start with a freshly washed car, and apply a good coat of wax. Then, you can just rinse
the pollen off weekly, or more often if you like. And by keeping it off the outside, less is likely to end up inside where
it can coat the interior, as well as get into your eyes and lungs.

April 24, 2015
Check pollen at the door
Keeping your car windows closed—whether you're in it or it's parked—will help keep the green stuff on the outside,
especially in the early morning or at dusk. Those are prime times for pollen. And set the fan to recirculate when
possible.
If you're still bothered by pollen in the car, a shop vacuum or better yet, a household canister vac with an upholstery
attachment should help. Plus, you can clean out a winter's worth of other debris while you're at it. If your allergies
are really bad, wear a particle mask while vacuuming. A damp cloth can remove much of the dust on the
dashboard, around gauges, and in many hard-to-reach places. (Jim Travers)

GADGETS
The Racing Car: Ferrari GTO
I say this with equal parts sadness and authority: it is unlikely the great majority of us will ever get to sit in a Ferrari
250 GTO, much less own one. The final incarnation of the long-running 250 Series, and the last successful frontengine racing car from Ferrari, there were only 39 GTOs made.
And when they do come up for sale, they trade for tens of millions of dollars—even the average ones! Its value
ensures that only the very few, and privileged will ever get to experience this very special car.
If you do want to learn more, however, you could do far worse than purchase the newest book by highly-regarded
automotive historian Doug Nye, The Racing Car: Ferrari 250 GTO. Now, while nothing can really compare to
experiencing a car in the flesh, the author has teamed up with Monza Books, a digital publishing house that
specializes in electronic books about classic cars, and aviation to create this “enhanced” digital tome.
Nye’s words are combined with photos, videos, and sound clips to offer the reader a multimedia experience that is
unavailable with a “dead trees” version. And it’s better than you may think.
Ferrari certainly built sports cars before the GTO, but Nye attempts to get to the heart of the matter of why the 250
GTO legend continues. First, to learn about the machine, one must also learn about the man, and Nye begins by
examining Enzo Ferrari's life from the days of his youth where he wanted to be either an opera singer—or race car
driver (what a dichotomy!)—and his admiration for Italian World War I ace Francesco Baracca, from whom he would
borrow the prancing horse symbol that still graces Ferrari models today.

April 24, 2015
The book details the development of the GTO, and its record of racing success during the 1962-64 Fédération
Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) championship. All GTOs were built to race, although they were theoretically
useable on the streets as well. Race they did, propelling Ferrari to three International Championship for GT
Manufacturers titles in the three years the car was competitive. But you could read that anywhere for free, right?
Where this book sets itself apart from others is the enhanced content. One literally gets to hear a vintage Ferrari dry
sump 12-cylinder engine breathing through its six Weber 38 DCN carburetors. There is video from the cockpit of the
GTO during an actual—though modern day—race. Even more engaging is video where Nye narrates a thorough
tour of the GTO, from its aerodynamics, to its engine, through running changes that took place during the car’s
production. The book ends with a registry of all the cars that includes pictures of each—including racing and
ownership history.
As an avid reader of books, I’ve often said you can’t have a shelf full of digital copies—but in the case of books like
this one, I’ll make an exception. Here, the enhanced format helps its subject spring off the page and come alive for
the reader. Nye combines outstanding historical information with original photographs and an enjoyable cache of
enhanced content.
That this book costs $13.99 merely emphasizes its value—others on this car are often much more expensive. If
you're curious about the GTO—or digital books in general—this is a good one to start with.

Air Vent Hidden Safe With RFID Lock
Unless you’re spending a fortune on an impenetrable safe, hiding your valuables in plain sight is often just as
secure … along with being a whole hell of a lot more convenient than remembering a combination. QuickSafes has
a new RFID locking safe disguised as a standard air vent that gives you the best of both worlds. The 15″ x 5″ x 7″
compartment installs easily between two 16″ center studs and holds everything from flash drives to cash to guns
(though it doesn’t qualify as a “gun safe” under California DOJ regulations). Once it’s installed, opening the safe is
as easy as holding the RFID card over the top sensor. $220 (Ben Dahl)
The First Suitcase With Retractable Wheels
When luggage got the universal upgrade from standard, fixed wheels to multi-directional spinner wheels it was a big
deal. Heys has taken their new Stealth series of luggage even further with a mechanism built into each of the
wheels that makes them retractable. Initially it might seem like adding four more moving parts to something that
constantly gets thrown around is a bad idea, but each of the wheel mechanisms is made from aircraft aluminum and
designed to tuck up next to the polycarbonate shell to prevent breakage. In addition to saving you the agony of
dragging a broken suitcase through the airport, this new design also opens up the space between the wheels for
storage of additional bottles of wine/beer clothing. $250 (Ben Dahl)

Hooked On Driving is a leading provider of performance driving programs, commonly known as an high performance
driving experience (HPDE), or high performance driving school (HPDS). These programs are run on Track Days, at
regional tracks such as Thunderhill Raceway, Laguna Seca, Reno-Fernley, Pocono, Autobahn Country club, and many
others. See below for a complete list of Track day venues. We give drivers of high performance cars and sports cars the
opportunity to drive their cars on a race track.
During the first sessions a coach will ride in the passenger seat, and teach the driver high performance driving
techniques. All new drivers need to participate is a helmet (available rentals), and an inspection to be sure their car is
roadworthy. Beginners are given a thorough briefing and are introduced to their coach before they drive their car on the
track. The initial "A Group" for beginning HPDE drivers, teaches smoothness, awareness, and driving a proper, safe and
efficient line on track. A priority is also placed on learning basic car control skills such as late braking, proper shifting
and understanding the concept of the apex of a turn.
While A group has significant passing restrictions to maintain a conservative pace, the B - Intermediate, C - Advanced,
and D - Race-prepped groups have progressively more flexible passing rules and advanced level coaching. There is
NEVER any competition — wheel to wheel or timed laps — in our programs. Hooked on Driving HPDE Programs are
safe experiences for all, an enjoyable time for every driver — and to assure that our drivers come away with much more
confidence in handling their car in an emergency situation. Hooked On Driving customers frequently are heard saying
that they've had, "The time of their lives!" http://www.hookedondriving.com/home

2015 Rides to Remember
Please help us put a smile on the faces of some deserving children at the 10th Annual Rides to Remember event
Saturday, June 6th at Atlanta Motorsports Park in Dawsonville, GA. This memorable event gives children with cancer the
opportunity to forget about their health issues for a day as they play games, eat food and take a ride around the track in
exotic cars like yours.
Just visit FMOARidesToRemember to register as a driver.
Rides to Remember brings together childhood cancer patients and exotic car owners. At this annual event, these kids
and their families get a timeout from cancer and the opportunity to create joyful and exhilarating memories in one special
weekend. The kids will be paired with drivers and their cars to ride the tracks in a Ferrari, Maserati or other exotic
vehicles.
And while you’re registering, please consider making a donation to benefit the charities that help these children and their
families every day.
Together we can make the 10th Annual Rides to Remember the best ever!
