Sanctus Comunidad de Oracion, Formacion y Evangelizacion Jueves de 7:30 p.m a 9:30 p.m. en Barry Hall
Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,
Last November Pope Francis published his first Apostolic Exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium, The Joy of the Gospel. In it he
lays out his program for the missionary transformation of the Church. He is simply bringing to the Universal Church the
call to a great continental mission issued by the Latin American Bishops and Pope Benedict at their Fifth General Assembly in Aparecida, Brazil. In his exhortation, Pope Francis calls for parishes to be places where people are “welcome, loved,
forgiven and encouraged.”
“The parish is not an outdated institution;” he says, “precisely
because it possesses great flexibility, it can assume quite
different contours depending on the openness and missionary creativity of the pastor and the community. While certainly
not the only institution which evangelizes, if the parish proves capable of self-renewal and constant adaptivity, it continues to be “the Church living in the midst of the homes of her sons and daughters”. This presumes that it really is in
contact with the homes and the lives of its people, and does not become a useless structure out of touch with people or a
self-absorbed group made up of a chosen few. The parish is the presence of the Church in a given territory, an environment for hearing God’s word, for growth in the Christian life, for dialogue, proclamation, charitable outreach, worship
and celebration. In all its activities the parish encourages and trains its members to be evangelizers. It is a community of
communities, a sanctuary where the thirsty come to drink in the midst of their journey, and a center of constant missionary outreach. We must admit, though, that the call to review and renew our parishes has not yet sufficed to bring
them nearer to people, to make them environments of living communion and participation, and to make them completely
mission-oriented.”
During the fiscal year that ended in June 2014, we have been working hard to bring about together a missionary transformation of our parish. To that extent, during the past fiscal year, we have undertaken many initiatives. We had our first
Lenten parish mission on Lincoln Road, we continued to develop and expand our St. Vincent de Paul ministry, other social outreach programs and our missions at the Port of Miami and Miami International Airport. We completed the installation of a hearing loop to be a more welcoming environment for our brothers and sisters who are hearing impaired. We
continued to work on the renewal of our liturgical ministries and launched several evangelization programs. We became
more involved in the community providing spiritual assistance to Law Enforcement and First Responders. We hosted the
first Archdiocesan Mass in Thanksgiving for the gift of life of persons with special needs.
This year, with your help and support, we are planning to continue down the path laid out by the Pope in his Exhortation. To accomplish this goal we need your continued prayers for our parish community. Additionally, we would like to
ask you to prayerfully consider volunteering your precious time to help as lectors, ushers, extraordinary ministers of Holy
Communion, and also with our ministries, especially St. Vincent de Paul which every Saturday feeds the hungry among
us.
As I mentioned, we have already had a number of initiatives to reach out to the community to proclaim the love of God
made incarnate in the person of our Lord Jesus. Next October 31, for example, we will have a major event to evangelize
through beauty and art. Archbishop Wenski is coming to celebrate the Vigil of All Saints at 7:30 PM with the Florida International University Orchestra and Chorus singing Mozart’s Missa Solemnis in an event that will be televised live to the
whole world by EWTN. We hope that you will be able to join us for this event and also that you invite anybody who may
be drawn to good music, beauty and art, so that they can experience it in the context of the celebration of the greatest gift
of God, the gift of Himself in the Eucharist.
Finally, we would like to ask you to prayerfully consider making a sacrificial donation to our parish in addition to your
weekly contribution to the collection basket. Those who are registered in the parish will be receiving our annual stewardship mailing soon with a summary of our financial statements and a stub to make a contribution or a pledge. Others may
simply send a contribution or stop by the office and while there register as well.
In spite of the fact that we faced many extraordinary expenses because our main A/C unit in the Church needed major
repairs, a 40-year recertification of our building, replacement of our light fixtures in the Church for more efficient and
environmentally friendly LED lights and costly upgrades to our safety systems in the elevator and fire prevention systems
in the bell tower mandated by the City of Miami Beach, we were able to keep our total expenditure at about the same
level as last year which were already 10 % down from the previous year. This fiscal year we will have to undertake major
maintenance projects such as the painting of the outside walls of the Church, the replacement of our main A/C which
has run its useful life and additional electrical work. To mitigate the impact of these major projects, we are forecasting a
reduction of 10 % in our operating expenses for the current fiscal year. With your continued support and our efforts to
keep our costs under control, we are confident we will be able to face these challenges.
A few weeks ago we were blessed with a visit from the Cardinal Archbishop of Aparecida who brought with him a replica
of the statue of Our Lady of Aparecida. At her Shrine the call to the missionary transformation of the Church was first
launched by Pope Benedict and the Latin American Bishops, including Archbishop Bergoglio of Buenos Aires. Soon we
will place that statue in a visible area of our Church so that she can be venerated by the faithful and all of us may be
reminded constantly that, as the program laid out at the General Assembly in Aparecida states, to be a Christian is not
a burden but a gift, to have encountered Christ is the best thing that could have ever happened to us and to make Him
known our joy.
On my part, I pledge to be a good steward of your resources and to apply my best efforts to the missionary transformation
of our parish, so that we can continue to announce the Good News of Jesus Christ to our brothers and sisters in Miami
Beach and beyond as we continue to grow together in communion with Christ, His Church and one another.

Queridos hermanos en Cristo:
En noviembre del año pasado, el Papa Francisco publicó su primera exhortación apostólica, Evangelii Gaudium, La alegría
del Evangelio. En ella formula su programa de transformación misionera de la Iglesia. Simplemente está llevando a la Iglesia universal el llamado a la gran misión continental que hicieran los obispos de América Latina junto al Papa Benedicto
XVI en la V Asamblea General en Aparecida, Brasil. En su exhortación, el Papa Francisco llama a las parroquias a convertirse en lugares donde la gente se sienta “acogida, amada, perdonada y alentada.”
“La parroquia no es una estructura caduca,” dice el Papa, “precisamente porque tiene una gran plasticidad, puede tomar
formas muy diversas que requieren la docilidad y la creatividad misionera del Pastor y de la comunidad. Aunque ciertamente no es la única institución evangelizadora, si es capaz de reformarse y adaptarse continuamente, seguirá siendo
«la misma Iglesia que vive entre las casas de sus hijos y de sus hijas». Esto supone que realmente esté en contacto con
los hogares y con la vida del pueblo, y no se convierta en una prolija estructura separada de la gente o en un grupo de
selectos que se miran a sí mismos. La parroquia es presencia eclesial en el territorio, ámbito de la escucha de la Palabra,
del crecimiento de la vida cristiana, del diálogo, del anuncio, de la caridad generosa, de la adoración y la celebración. A
través de todas sus actividades, la parroquia alienta y forma a sus miembros para que sean agentes de evangelización. Es
comunidad de comunidades, santuario donde los sedientos van a beber para seguir caminando, y centro de constante envío misionero. Pero tenemos que reconocer que el llamado a la revisión y renovación de las parroquias todavía no ha dado
suficientes frutos en orden a que estén todavía más cerca de la gente, que sean ámbitos de viva comunión y participación,
y se orienten completamente a la misión.”
Durante el ejercicio fiscal que terminó en junio del 2014, hemos estado trabajando duro para llevar adelante juntos una
transformación misionera de nuestra parroquia. Para alcanzar ese cometido hemos desarrollado numerosas iniciativas.
Organizamos nuestra primera misión parroquial de Cuaresma en Lincoln Road, seguimos desarrollando y expandiendo
nuestra conferencia de St. Vincent de Paul y otros programas de extensión, como así también nuestras misiones en el
Puerto de Miami y el Aeropuerto Internacional de Miami. Completamos la instalación de un “hearing loop”, sistema que
facilita la audición, que hace que nuestra parroquia sea un ambiente más acogedor para nuestros hermanos con problemas auditivos. Seguimos trabajando en la renovación de nuestros ministerios litúrgicos y lanzamos varios programas
de evangelización. Además nos hemos involucrado en la comunidad a través de la provisión de asistencia espiritual a
oficiales de la ley y bomberos. Acogimos la primera Misa Arquidiocesana de acción de gracias por el don de la vida de las
personas con necesidades especiales.
Este año, con su ayuda y apoyo, planeamos continuar en el camino señalado por el Papa en su exhortación. Para alcanzar
ese objetivo necesitamos su oración constante por nuestra comunidad parroquial. Además, queremos pedirles que consideren en la oración ofrecer su precioso tiempo como voluntarios para asistir como lectores, ujieres, ministros extraordinarios de la Comunión y también en los otros ministerios, especialmente St. Vincent de Paul que todos los sábados alimenta a
los necesitados entre nosotros.
Como les contaba, hemos lanzado varias iniciativas para anunciar a la comunidad el amor de Dios encarnado en la persona de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. El próximo 31 de octubre, por ejemplo, tendremos un evento muy importante para evangelizar a través de la belleza y el arte. El Arzobispo Wenski vendrá a celebrar la Vigilia de Todos los Santos a las 7:30 PM
y la orquesta y coro de la Universidad Internacional de la Florida, FIU, cantarán la Missa Solemnis de Mozart. Este evento
será televisado en vivo para todo el mundo por EWTN. Espero que puedan unirse a nosotros y que inviten a cualquier
persona que pueda sentirse atraída por la buena música, la belleza y el arte, para que los experimenten en el contexto de
la celebración del don más grande de Dios, el don de sí mismo en la Eucaristía.
Finalmente, quisiéramos pedirles que por favor, consideren en la oración hacer una donación sacrificial a nuestra parroquia por encima de su contribución en la colecta semanal. Quienes están registrados en la parroquia recibirán nuestra
carta anual de mayordomía con un resumen de nuestros estados financieros y un cupón para hacer una contribución o
compromiso. El resto puede enviar una contribución por correo o pasar por la oficina parroquial y de paso registrarse.
A pesar de haber tenido gastos extraordinarios porque nuestro aire acondicionado principal en la Iglesia necesitó reparaciones importantes, una inspección que nos toca cada 40 años, el remplazo de las luces en la Iglesia por LED que es
más eficiente y mejor para el medio ambiente y costosas mejoras al sistema de seguridad en el elevador y los sistemas de
prevención de incendios en la torre ordenados por la Ciudad de Miami Beach, hemos podido mantener nuestro gasto total
aproximadamente al mismo nivel que el año pasado que ya había sido un 10 % menor que los años anteriores. Este ejercicio tendremos que encarar varios importantes proyectos de mantenimiento como por ejemplo la pintura de la fachada de
la iglesia, el remplazo de nuestro aire acondicionado central que ha cumplido su vida útil y otros trabajos eléctricos. Para
mitigar el impacto de estos proyectos, estamos pronosticando una reducción adicional del 10 % en nuestros gastos operativos. Con su ayuda y nuestro esfuerzo podremos mantener nuestros costos bajo control, y confiamos en que podremos
afrontar estos desafíos.
Hace apenas unas semanas fuimos bendecidos con la visita del Cardenal Arzobispo de Aparecida quien trajo consigo una
réplica de la imagen de Nuestra Señora de Aparecida. Fue en su santuario donde los obispos latinoamericanos, incluyendo el Arzobispo Bergoglio de Buenos Aires, junto al Papa Benedicto lanzaron el llamado a la transformación misionera de
la Iglesia. Pronto la tendremos en un lugar visible de nuestra iglesia para que pueda ser venerada por los fieles y también
nos recuerde constantemente que, como lo señala el programa de la Asamblea General de Aparecida, ser cristiano no es
una carga sino un don porque haber encontrado a Cristo es lo mejor que nos ha podido pasar y darlo a conocer es nuestra alegría.
Por mi parte, me comprometo a ser un buen administrador de sus recursos y dedicar toda mi energía a la transformación
misionera de nuestra parroquia, para que podamos seguir anunciando la Buena Noticia de Cristo Jesús a nuestros hermanos en Miami Beach y más allá de sus confines, al tiempo que crecemos juntos en comunión con Cristo, su Iglesia y
entre nosotros.
