WORD FROM THE PASTOR
Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,
This week I would like to share with you some news.
There is much good news coming from St. Patrick. Of
course, the most important piece of Good News is the
Gospel itself, the proclamation of the salvation in Christ
through his Passion, Death and Resurrection.
But these next couple of weeks there are what one could
call ancillary good news to the Good News of the Gospel.
In our efforts to be better disciples and missionaries of
Christ we are incorporating technology and we will also host an important Archdiocesan event that will be tele- vised nationally by EWTN and broadcast by Radio Paz
830 AM the radio station of the Archdiocese of Miami.
Your continued generous support of our parish has enabled us to contract the installation of an Assistive Listening System known as Hearing Loop. This device enables
those who are hearing impaired to switch their hearing
aid or cochlear implant to a certain position so that they
receive the signal directly from the sound system without
interference, thus enhancing their prayer experience at
St. Patrick and allowing for a fuller participation in the
liturgical life of our parish. Installation of the loop will
be completed within the next couple of days. Our church
will be one of the first in the entire Archdiocese, indeed
among the first in the entire nation, to have this device
installed. We hope that many people who are hearing impaired will be better able to listen at Mass and those who
are not going to Mass regularly will be moved to do so.
In this matter, we can happily say that Pope Francis and
is on the same wave-length. During an address on November 9 to an association that organizes pilgrimages to
Lourdes by those who have poor health, he said that those
who have poor health are a treasure to the Church, and
that this treasure needs to be cherished and valued not
only in the Church but in society at large.
He further noted that in the social and cultural context
of our day there is a tendency to hide physical frailty, to
consider it a problem, sometimes demanding a pietistic resignation or advocating the elimination of those
persons. He encouraged them and all Christians to be a
prophetic sign against this mundane logic, the logic that
regards human beings as disposable, by helping those
who suffer to claim their place in society. We have to
value, the Pope said, the presence and witness of people
who are frail or who are suffering, not just to be on the
receiving end of our evangelizing efforts, but also as active participants in the apostolic activities.
Along those lines, I would also like to mention that on
November 23 at 5 PM, during our Vigil Mass on the
Solemnity of the Christ the King, we will be hosting
the Archdiocese of Miami’s Inaugural White Mass in
Thanksgiving for the gift of life of persons with special
needs. We expect it to be a beautiful celebration of the
sovereignty of Christ as we give thanks for the joy and
love that people with special needs bring to the life of
their families and to the entire world. Bishop Fernando
Isern will be the main celebrant and, as I mentioned be-

fore, the Mass will be carried live nationally by EWTN, the
Global Catholic Network.
Broadcast of this event live will largely be possible due to
the fact that, again through your generosity and the generosity of a benefactor who donated some of the equipment, we
have been able to upgrade our video system and incorporate
HDTV cameras that will be used to stream live Mass and
will also available to stream important parish celebrations.
We will be able to provide a streaming service to couples
marrying at St. Patrick who request it so that their relatives
who are in distant places and are not able to come to Miami
Beach may watch live their celebration of marriage. In addition, the enhanced HDTV equipment will allow the School to
start a media program to expand the curriculum and provide
a better learning experience for our students by equipping
them with some basic knowledge of media production.
Installation of the HDTV system began some time ago and
should be completed within the next couple of weeks.
With the resources that you entrust to us we have also helped
St. Patrick Catholic Church in Montserrat. It is the only
Catholic parish on that island in the Caribbean. A couple of
years ago, a volcano eruption destroyed the church. With
the money recovered from the insurance they were able to
rebuild but did not have a keyboard or a statue of our patron
saint. Through a parishioner they reached out to us and we
were able to make available to them a keyboard that was not
being used and buy on E-bay a life size statue of St. Patrick
that will be delivered to them in a couple of weeks.
As you see, we are working diligently to evangelize our community and beyond. We ask you to continue to support our
parish and pledge to be good stewards of your resources.

PS. Archbishop Wenski has appointed Fr. Matthew Thundathil to be a full time judge at the Metropolitan Tribunal of the
Archdiocese of Miami in residence at St. Martha Catholic
Church effective December 2. We congratulate Fr. Matthew
on this new important assignment and wish him well. We are
very grateful for his faithful service to our parish and to the
patients at Mt. Sinai and will keep him in our prayers!

Grief Group - Have you recently experienced the
death of a loved one or are you presently dealing
with a loved one’s terminal illness? If you are, you
need not go through the grieving process alone. St.
Patrick’s faith-based Grief Group will begin meeting again on Tuesday, December 17 at 7:30 p.m. in
the Church tower.
The group will be conducted in an open, non-judgemental and caring atmosphere. If you or someone

St. Vincent de Paul Thanksgiving Dinner
Queridos hermanos en Cristo:
Esta semana quiero compartir con Uds. algunas noticias.
Hay muchas buenas noticias provenientes de St. Patrick.
Por supuesto, la más importante es la Buena Noticia del
Evangelio, la proclamación de la salvación en Cristo por
su Pasión, Muerte y Resurrección.
En las próximas semanas seremos testigos de algunas
buenas noticias que accesorias a la Buena Noticia del
Evangelio.
En un esfuerzo por ser mejores discípulos y misioneros
de Cristo estamos incorporando tecnología y seremos anfitriones de un importante evento arquidiocesano que será
transmitido a todo el país por EWTN y también por Radio
Paz 830 AM la emisora de la Arquidiócesis de Miami.
Su apoyo constante a nuestra parroquia ha hecho posible
que contratemos la instalación de un Sistema de Escucha
Asistida (Assistive Listening System) que también se
conoce como Hearing Loop. Este dispositivo permite que
aquellos que tienen problemas auditivos puedan ajustar su
audífono o implante para recibir una señal directamente
del sistema de sonido, sin interferencia, y así mejorar la
experiencia de oración en St. Patrick, permitiendo una
participación más plena en la vida litúrgica de nuestra
parroquia. La instalación del “loop” quedará terminada
en los próximos días. Nuestra iglesia será una de las
primeras en la Arquidiócesis, de hecho de las primeras del
país, que tendrá este dispositivo. Esperamos que muchas
personas que tienen problemas de audición puedan escuchar mejor durante la Misa y que aquellos que no están
yendo regularmente se sientan movidos a hacerlo.
En ese sentido, podemos decir con alegría que estamos
en la misma sintonía que el Papa Francisco. Durante un
discurso a una asociación que organiza peregrinaciones
a Lourdes para personas con mala salud el pasado 9 de
noviembre, les dijo que quienes tienen mala salud son
una riqueza para la Iglesia y que esa riqueza tiene que ser
valorada y atesorada.
Les dijo también que en el contexto cultural y social
actual hay una tendencia a ocultar la fragilidad física, a
considerarla un problema, exigiendo a veces una resignación propia del pietismo o abogando por la eliminación
de esas personas. Nos alentó a todos los cristianos a ser
un signo profético contra esta lógica mundana, la lógica
que considera que los seres humanos son descartables,
ayudando a los que sufren a reclamar su puesto en la
sociedad. Tenemos que valorar, dijo el Papa, la presencia
y el testimonio de la gente que es frágil o que está sufriendo, no solamente como receptores de nuestros esfuerzos
de evangelización sino también, como miembros activos
de las actividades apostólicas.
En ese mismo orden de cosas, quisiera mencionar que el
23 de noviembre a las 5 PM, durante nuestra Misa de vigilia en la Solemnidad de Cristo Rey, seremos anfitriones
de la Primera Misa Arquidiocesana en Acción de Gracias
por el don de la vida de las personas con necesidades especiales. Va a ser una hermosa celebración de la soberanía
de Cristo mientras agradecemos la alegría y el amor que las
personas con necesidades especiales aportan a sus familias
y al mundo entero. Mons. Fernando Isern será el celebrante
principal y, como les dije, la Misa será televisada en vivo a
nivel nacional por EWTN, la red católica mundial.
La transmisión de este evento será posible en gran medida debido
a que, una vez más gracias a su generosidad y a la generosidad de un benefactor que donó parte del equipo, hemos podido mejorar nuestro sistema de video incorporando cámaras
de alta definición que serán usadas para el “streaming” de
la Misa dominical y otros importantes eventos parroquiales.
También podremos ofrecer este servicio a las parejas que
se casan en St. Patrick y lo deseen para que sus parientes
que están en lugares distantes y no puedan venir a Miami
Beach vean la celebración del matrimonio en vivo. Además,
el nuevo sistema y equipo HDTV permitirán que la escuela
comience un programa de comunicaciones que expandirá
el curriculum y proveerá una educación de mejor calidad
para nuestros estudiantes que ahora tendrán conocimientos
básicos de producción en los medios de comunicación. La
instalación del sistema de alta definición comenzó hace un
tiempo y debería concluir en las próximas semanas.
Con los recursos que nos confían también hemos ayudado
a St. Patrick Catholic Church en Montserrat. Se trata de la
única parroquia católica en esa isla del Caribe. Hace unos
años la erupción de un volcán destruyó la iglesia. Con el
dinero que recuperaron del seguro pudieron reconstruirla
pero no tenían teclados ni una imagen de nuestro santo
patrono. A través de un parroquiano nos contactaron y así
pudimos poner a su disposición un teclado que no se usaba
y conseguir en E-bay una imagen de san Patricio en tamaño
natural que les entregarán dentro de unas semanas.
Como ven, estamos trabajando con gran ahínco para evangelizar juntos en nuestra comunidad y otros confines. Les
pedimos que sigan apoyando a nuestra parroquia y nos comprometemos a ser buenos administradores de sus recursos.

designado al P. Matthew Thundathil como juez a tiempo
completo en el Tribunal Metropolitano de la Arquidiócesis
de Miami residiendo en St. Martha Catholic Church. Estamos muy agradecidos por su fiel servicio a nuestra parroquia
y a los pacientes del Mt. Sinai y nos comprometemos a
