How to Be ...
Florence, Mia, and Noémie
The alphabet wall adds colour and inspirational messages to OASIS.
Have you seen the Ways to Be art in OASIS?
For their end of year project, the Grade 6
students designed and painted a wooden letter
of the alphabet. The letters were in different
fonts, shapes, and sizes. First, they chose their
letter and they decided to work either by
themselves or with a partner. They also had to

come up with an inspiring word that began
with the letter they were working on.
The
Grade
6
students were very
eager to start the
project! Once they
chose their letter and
their partner, they
worked on the design
of their letter. Before
transferring
their
design onto the
letter, they had to
paint a white base Don’t forget to paint the edges!
coat to make sure the colours would stand out.
After this important step, the students started
painting their creative design onto their letter
using paint or paint pens.

… From A to Z
Finally, Mrs. Kim put some varathane on
each letter to protect them. After that, she
hung the letters on the wall and painted the
inspirational words that were chosen next to
each one. She did this so that it would all be
written in the same font.
Painting the details requires patience and a steady hand.
These students certainly represented their word in their design.
Next, the Grade 6 students each gave two
examples on how to encourage others to be
the word they chose. For example, students
wrote “Try new things” for the word
Adventurous. Afterwards, Mrs. Kim printed out
a beautiful poster with these examples.
The goal of this project was to inspire the
other students in the school with positive
messages. Like the other projects in our
school, it is also a way for the Grade 6 students
to be remembered after they leave John
Adam.
When everything was put together,
everyone was really proud of their work and
couldn't wait for others to see the mural. The
younger students are already anxious to find
out what their Grade 6 project will be. The
Ways to Be art made the OASIS room more
peaceful than ever thanks to the hard work of
the Grade 6 students!

The colourful poster explains the meaning of each
word and gives credit to the artists.
This student proudly shows off his hard work.

A Year to Remember!
Adam and Jennyfer
At the beginning of the year, some of the Grade 5 students didn’t know many of
the Grade 6 students very well, but over the year, the Grade 6 students welcomed
us. They also helped us improve in the way we work. Some of them made us laugh
in class to amuse us, which made it fun to be in class with them. They were great
role models to us all year. It gave us ideas as to how we should treat the future
students that will be in our class when we are in Grade 6. We will miss the Grade 6
students because, over the year, we have developed a great friendship and we
made a lot of good memories together. The Grade 6 students brought joy and
excitement to our year. All of the Grade 5 students will miss the Grade 6 students
for their kindness and their uniqueness.
