Merino teams take on Yuma and Haxtun in Lower Platte games

MERINO – After dropping a 4932 decision at home against Yuma
Friday, the Merino Rams traveled
to Haxtun Saturday to post an
exciting 73-70 victory in Lower
Platte League games.
The Rams are 9-3 overall and
2-3 in the league.
In Friday’s home game against
Yuma, the seventh-ranked team in
Class 2A, Merino fell behind 25-13
at halftime and could not make up
the deficit in the second half.
Seniors Curtis Tappy and Connor
Fiscus each scored 8 points to lead
Merino; senior Cameron Marble
5; senior Jorden Jole and junior
Logan Redabaugh 4 apiece and
sophomore Wyatt Barton 3.
Fiscus grabbed 10 rebounds to
lead the Rams, Lewis 6 and Tappy
4.
Fiscus also had 3 assists and 3
steals.
In Saturday’s league game
at Haxtun, Merino built a 39-29
halftime lead before holding off
the Bulldogs for the 73-70 victory.

Rams stayed close in the first half
before falling by a 562-37 score.
Merino is 4-9 overall and 0-5 in the
Lower Platte League.
Propst and junior Shelby Kuntz
each scored 8 points to lead Merino
in Saturday’s game at Haxtun; Karg
and senior Bailey Walser 6 apiece;
junior Jerra Atwater 5 and Mari
and sophomore Molly Weatherill 2
each.
Both Merino teams will host
Wray Friday and on Saturday will
travel to Wiggins for Lower Platte
League games.
On Tuesday Merino will play at
Fleming in non-league games.

netted 23 points to lead the Rams;
Jole and sophomore Tre Lewis 12

Ficus and Redabaugh each had
6 rebounds and Tappy grabbed 5.
Fiscus also ran the offense well
with 14 assists and on defense had
2 steals.
In the girl’s games the Lady
Rams lost at home to Yuma, the
third-ranked team in Class 2A, 5811.
Freshman Harley Gentry led
Merino with 3 points and 2 each for
juniors Veronica Karg, Rachel Mari
and Kaylee Propst and sophomore
Kristi Cook.
