Trade Development Authority of Pakistan
The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), previously known as
the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), is the apex agency of the Government
of Pakistan engaged in the promotion and growth of the country's exports. It
was established on the 8th of November, 2008, under a Presidential Ordinance,
with the Ministry of Commerce as its Administrative Ministry.
As the premier trade organization of the country TDAP not only strives to
promote Pakistan’s business with the world but also seeks to establish a Brand
Image for the country. The project of Aalishan Pakistan (Sep, 2014) in India,
was one such successful step towards introducing Pakistan as the next big
thing on the business avenues of the world.
TDAP’s significance as a trade organization can be assessed from the fact that
it serves as a platform for Pakistan’s representation in almost 110-120
International Trade Exhibitions across the world each year, while also serving
as a facilitator for 90 plus trade delegations to and from Pakistan. On the
domestic front, the annual and biennial features of TDAP like “Expo Pakistan”
and WEXNET continue to be the biggest platforms of their kind for the
promotion of Pakistani business and entrepreneurs, especially women.
As the implementation arm of the country’s trade policy objectives, TDAP’s
efforts have always been commendable. TDAP is the name that supports the
Fashion Councils, Designers and Retailers as well as the Fashion and Arts
Schools of Pakistan like the Pakistan Institute of Fashion Design and Indus
Valley School of Arts. Participation in mega events like the “Milan Fashion
Week” and the “Paris Couture Week” was made possible through the dedicated
efforts of TDAP’s team alone.

A Voyage of Discovery
The Central Asian Republics represent a unique combination of geographical
and ideological connection to Pakistan with age-old roots of a common religious
and cultural heritage. Pakistan has a very strong realisation of the significance
of the Central Asian region and seeks to promote relations at all levels with the
Central Asian Republics.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan’s recent visit to the Central Asian countries was
a gesture to show that Pakistan wants connectivity in the region and wants to
increase the existent level of cooperation with the Central Asian partners. The
support extended to Pakistan by the Central Asian Republics for gaining full
membership with the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is proof of the
mutual bonds of high regard.
With the launch of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and
Pakistan’s accession to TIR Convention and WTO Trade Facilitation
Agreement, there is every reason to believe that the advent of a closer and
stronger partnership between Pakistan and the CARs has truly arrived.
The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan aspires to build upon these
foundations of mutual cooperation and therefore will be bringing the first ever
‘Pakistan Trade Caravan’ to the Central Asian Republics in hopes of further
strengthening the economic and trade linkages.
With the consistent realization of the need to do much more, the organization
continues to take significant initiatives and make diligent efforts for the
realization of TDAP’s vision and mission as well as Pakistan’s trade promotion
and economic development.

Young Achievers of Pakistan
Pakistan is forging ahead with the energy of its young
achievers. Pakistan has a predominantly young population
and the outstanding talent of its youth has been
recognized at national and international forums, which has
won laurels for the Country.
Many Pakistanis have won acclaim in the fields of
Computer Technology, Literature, Sports, Visual Arts, Film,
Aviation, Journalism.
Malala was awarded the Nobel Prize for her courageous and unstinting work to
promote education for girls in her native Swat Valley, where the local Taliban
violently opposed girls from attending school. Malala survived a near-fatal
attack while carrying out her campaign for education. Yousafzai's advocacy has
since grown into an international movement.

Arfa Abdul Karim Randhawa
Babar began dabbling in computer programming at the age of five and by age
nine, he came to prominence by becoming one of the youngest Microsoft
Certified Professional (MCP) in the world. His research has been accepted by
8th International Conference on Innovations in Information Technology
(Innovations '12).
In 2004, at the age of nine, Arfa became the youngest Microsoft Certified
Professional (MCP). She kept the title until 2008 and was invited by Bill Gates
to visit Microsoft Headquarters. Arfa represented Pakistan on various
international forums including the TechEd Developers Conference. She also
received the President's Award for Pride of Performance. Unfortunately, she
died young. Today a science park in Lahore, the Arfa Software Technology
Park, has been named in her memory.

Naseem Hameed
Ayesha Farooq
Naseem Hameed won a Gold Medal for the 100 Meters Race at the South
Asian Federation (SAF) Games in 2010 at Dhaka, Bangladesh and was
declared South Asia’s fastest runner at the age of 22.
At the age of 26, Ayesha Farooq became Pakistan’s first war-ready female
fighter pilot. Farooq is one of 19 women who have become pilots in the PAF
over the last decade.
Naseem also became the first Pakistani woman to win the Short Sprint Gold in
the 26-year history of the games. She is the third woman to win a Gold Medal
for Pakistan at SAF Games, after Rehana Kausar (High Jump, Gold, 1999,
Kathmandu) and Shabana Akhtar (Long Jump, Gold, 1995 Madras).
Ayesha Farooq has faced the challenge of near constant testing that saw her
40 classmates reduced to 20. She worked harder than others in the gym to
ensure she had the strength to control her jet. Currently, she flies one of the
Pakistan Air Force’s (PAF) front line planes.

Mir Zafar Ali
Pakistani explorer and artist, Namira reached the North Pole in April 2007 and
the South Pole in January 2008. She also holds the distinction of being the first
Asian and first Pakistani to skydive over Mount Everest during the historic First
Everest Skydives 2008. Namira, being the only Pakistani member of Sir
Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic, the world's first commercial spaceliner.
Mir won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for the Walt Disney animated film ‘Frozen’. He also worked in the team that won the Academy Award for
Best Visual Effects for the 2007 movie ‘The Golden Compass’. He is the
first-ever Pakistani Oscar-Winner.

Scientist who Connected Brain Cells to a Silicon Chip
A Pakistani Canadian scientist, Dr. Syed estimates science-fiction type
‘Machine-Men’ may be developed within 10–20 years, using his silicon chip. He
travels widely to give lectures on human mind and his mini-chip. Currently, he
is a Professor and Head Department of Cell Biology & Anatomy at the
University of Calgary, Canada.

Samina Baig
First Pakistani Woman to Scale Mount Everest
A native of Shamsal Valley in Hunza, Samina Baig developed a passion for
mountain climbing with her brother who is an expert climber. After honing her
skill by climbing many Pakistani peaks, she attempted and scaled the world’s
highest peak in 2013 at the age of 23. Since then, she has been successful in
climbing some of the most challenging mountains of the world. In Pakistan, a
summit has been named Samina’s Peak, in her honor.

The Team has played in most editions of the Women's Asia Cup and won Gold
Medals in the consecutive editions of the Asian Games in 2010 and 2014. Sana
Mir is currently captaining the team in all formats of the game.

Tennis Champion of Davis Cup
Winner of most Davis Cup matches for Pakistan, he is the most successful
singles and doubles player from Pakistan ever. Aisam qualified for his first
Grand Slam at Wimbledon with doubles partner Amir Hadad. Along with Rohan
Bopanna, Aisam received the 2010 ‘Peace and Sport Image of the Year’ Award,
in recognition of their dedicated efforts to spread the message of peace
through sport.

An Academy Award and an Emmy Award-Winning
Documentary Filmmaker
In the past 15 years, she has made over a dozen multi award-winning films in
over 10 countries around the world. Her work has aired on channels spanning
4 continents including, HBO, CNN, PBS, Channel 4, CBC, Arte, SBS and the
Discovery channel. In 2012, Time Magazine included Sharmeen in their annual
list of the 100 most influential people in the world. The Canadian Government
awarded her a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for her work in the
field of documentary films in 2013 and the World Economic Forum honored her
with a Crystal Award at their annual summit in Davos.

Kamila Shamsie
Award-Winning Novelist
Internationally acclaimed novelist, Kamila’s work has been shortlisted for the
John Llewellyn Rhys Prize in the UK. Shamsie received the Prime Minister's
Award for Literature and the Patras Bukhari Award in Pakistan. Her books have
been translated into a number of languages. In 2010, Shamsie won an Award
from the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of
Literature. Her novel ‘A God in Every Stone’ was shortlisted for the 2015 Walter
Scott Prize.

Mohammad Hanif
Writer of Global Acclaim
His first novel ‘A Case of Exploding Mangoes’ (2008) was shortlisted for the
2008 Guardian First Book Award and longlisted for the 2008 Man Booker Prize.
It won the 2009 Commonwealth Book Prize in the Best First Book category and
the 2008 Shakti Bhatt First Book Prize. His second novel ‘Our Lady of Alice
Bhatti’, was published in 2011. It was shortlisted for the Wellcome Trust Book
Prize (2012), and the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature (2013).
Hanif has also written for the stage and screen, including a feature film ‘The
Long Night’ (2002), a BBC radio play ‘What Now, Now That We Are Dead?’ and
the stage play ‘The Dictator's Wife’ (2008). He is currently collaborating with
composer Mohammed Fairouz on an opera titled ‘Bhutto’.

Shahzia Sikander
Internationally Acclaimed Artist
Shahzia is among the pioneers of Neo-Miniature Painting, an indigenous art
movement of Pakistan. Since 1991, she has explored its many dimensions through
a multiplicity of media. According to the artist “Drawing is a fundamental element of
my process, a basic tool for exploration…. I also stayed true to layering, a concept
running throughout my practice. For the making of video animations, I went back to
the fundamental use of ink drawings, crafting form out of color and gouache,
scanning and threading them via movement. The breakdown of form also gives a
stationary drawing the illusion of transformation, which as a topic has given me a lot
of space to experiment and imagine throughout my work.”
Shahzia is the recipient of the Pride of Performance in Pakistan and recently was
among the four artists honored by Asia Society in New York. Her work has been
exhibited in prestigious museums in Europe, USA and Asia. Her video work
Parallax which won acclaim at the Sharjah Biennale in 2013 has since been shown
in S. Korea, Bangladesh, Denmark and Sweden. Presently, it is on display at the
Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in Spain.

Atif Aslam
Special Olympics Pakistan
Atif Aslam is a Pakistani singer and film actor. He has recorded
numerous chart-topping songs and is known for his vocal belting
technique. Several songs from his debut album went on to become
major hits and charted across countries in the subcontinent. In 2012,
Atif Aslam became the first man from his country to perform in
London's O2 Arena, a concert spectacular to promote love, peace
and unity among India and Pakistan. In 2013, Atif performed for the
first time at the LG Arena in Birmingham, following which he became
the first artist from Asia to perform twice at London's O2 Arena. He
was declared the most popular artist on Saavn (an Indian music
streaming service) in 2013. Atif is the youngest recipient of
Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, a Pakistani civilian decoration.
Special Olympics Pakistan is a nonprofit movement dedicated to improving the lives
of individuals with intellectual disabilities through the ‘Power of Sport’. Our mission
is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of
Olympic-type sports for children and adults with an intellectual disability, giving them
continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage,
experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their
families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Special Olympics Pakistan participated in the World Games held in Los Angeles
from July 25th – Aug 2nd, 2015. The contingent consisted of fifty-five athletes,
twenty-one coaches and three officials. Pakistan won 15 Gold, 12 Silver and 8
Bronze in 9 sports: Athletics, Aquatics, Badminton, Basketball, Unified Basketball,
Cycling, Football, Power Lifting, Table Tennis and Tennis.
Special Olympics Pakistan continues to make the intellectually disabled a part of
the mainstream society and continues to show the world that our Special Athletes
are no different and can make a name for the country and its people. With emphasis
on the health of the athletes, Special Olympics Pakistan also provides medical
screening and helps in acquisition of equipment to better the lives of our athletes.
