sneezing and wheezing begins, the former
usually followed by an emphatic “bless
you.” A sneeze is a semi-autonomous, convulsive
expulsion of air from the nose and mouth. It’s generally caused by irritation in the passages of the
nose. Pollens, house dust, pet dander and other
particles are usually harmless, but when they irritate the nose, the body responds by expelling
them. The nose often mistakes strong odors, sudden chills, and bright lights (called photic sneeze
reflex) for irritants and it tries to defend itself…with
a sneeze. An unimpeded sneeze sends two to five
thousand bacteria-filled droplets into the air.
Most sneezes have nothing to do with anything more serious than airborn particulate. If you

Natural air purification, or ion generation,
comes from the UV light rays of the sun and

Ions are electrically charged particles that are
positive or negative, with a ratio of approximately
six positive ions to five negative ions. Inside, the
ratio is a bit off balance because of the abundance of positive ions and the lack of negative
ions. The disruption can be caused by building
materials and, let’s face it, we spend about 90
percent of our time inside of these buildings. In a
perfect world, a negative ion gives up its charge
to dust, pollen, bacteria, smoke and more. It then
attracts positive particles until they become
heavy enough to fall out of the air we breathe,
thus cleansing the air. SMART POINTE works by
producing negative ions faster than nature, thus
keeping the air we breathe inside cleaner. It’s

HOW PIONAIR AND
SMART POINTE WORK
The PIONAIR technology uses these natural
methods by creating ultraviolet light rays, safe
levels of ozone, and passive negative ions as
part of your air treatment process. The other part
of the process is a catalyst made from TiO2 (titanium dioxide) that, when activated, generates
hydroxyl radicals and super oxide ions. This system is not an air filter. It is an air purifier duplicating nature’s own methods of air cleaning and
revitalization.
The SMART POINTE system uses the same
photocatalyisis technology as the standard PIONAIR system, but also generates active negative
ions. The SMART POINTE generates negative
ions much faster, which means there are more
negative ions in the air to attach to the positivelycharged particulate in the air. Because most
allergens—such as pollen, pet dander, dust, dust
mites, and smoke—are particulate, SMART
POINTE units are especially effective at relieving
allergy symptoms quickly while remaining equally
effective against mold, bacteria and normal
household odors.
The SMART POINTE contains a sensor that
monitors the balance in the electrical charge of
the area being treated. When the treated area
becomes balanced (the number of negative and
positive ions are equal), the sensor automatically
deactivates active ionization until more negative
ions are needed. This prevents dust, smoke and
other particulate from adhering to (and discoloring) walls and other surface areas, thus helping
to alleviate your allergy symptoms.

About Particulate
Although outdoor allergens capture considerable attention, more people suffer
from allergies caused by triggers inside the home. Allergy sufferers can take a
major step toward improving their symptoms by making their homes hostile
environments for allergens. There are several steps you should consider to manage indoor allergens, including:
❍ Maintaining relative humidity in the home at less than 50 percent to minimize
populations of dust mites and mold;
❍ Using allergen-resistant coverings to prevent dust mites and pet dander from
collecting in bedding;
❍ Improving cleaning with more effective equipment and filtering the air in the home
to remove as many allergens as possible.
These allergens also include pollen (yes, even inside), nitric oxide, viruses, bacteria,
cigarette smoke and more. For people with allergies, these types of particulate may
cause allergic reactions in excess of sneezing. You may have difficulty breathing,
your eyes and nose may both run, your throat may feel irritated and you may even
