ahill wasted little time establishing herself as a contender both on the track and in the field. This precocious freshman was a member of Uxbridge’s victorious
400-meter relay team at the Central Mass. Championships and runner-up in the 100 (13.89 seconds) at the
Class C meet. But she really made her presence felt in
the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 4 inches to take first at
the CMass meet. That effort matched the school record
she set while winning the event at the Division 4 state
meet during the indoor season. It’s a moment she considers her most memorable in sports. The consistent Cahill wrapped up
her inaugural outdoor season by placing fifth at the state meet and tying
for eighth at New Englands, jumping 5-3 at each of those championships.
Cahill also plays soccer for the Spartans and lists photography among her
hobbies. She is the daughter of Celeste and John Cahill of Uxbridge.

Doherty High
Senior, 200, Long Jump
t was just a spectacular four years on the
track for Janeczak, unquestionably one of
the all-time greatest athletes to emerge from
this area and a unanimous choice as Hometeam’s Athlete of the Year. This explosive
sprinter with the dynamic personality won
the 200-meter dash at the Central Mass.
Championships for a second straight year,
lowering her meet record to 25.07 seconds.
She also took gold in the long jump (17 feet, 10
inches) and anchored the three-time defending champion Highlanders to third place in
the 400 relay with a blistering leg. For all that,
she was named the meet’s outstanding performer for a second straight year. Janeczak
then clocked a 24.89 to place second in the 200
at the state meet after having won the race as
a junior. Lest we forget, she won a pair of
CMass titles and a state championship in the
100 her first two seasons. In addition to the
200, Janeczak also has possession of CMass

meet records in the 100 (12.34 seconds, 2008)
and the 400 relay (49.86, ’08). Janeczak’s final
appearance as a Highlander saw her best a
field of 108 to capture the District E Pentathlon. This six-time T&G Super Team member,
winner of multiple championships on the
indoor circuit as well, considers winning
those three CMass relay titles and a state
championship in the 200 to be her most memorable sports moments. Janeczak’s next stop
is the University of Rhode Island, where
she’ll compete in track and pursue her career
goal of becoming a teacher. She is the daughter of Annmarie Finne and Derek Janeczak of

ollins competed in seven events at one time or
another for the Mountaineers this spring. She was
not only versatile, but victorious. The two biggest wins
came at the Central Mass. Championships, where
Collins collected gold medals in the 800-meter run (2
minutes, 19.24 seconds) and the 1,600 relay. The only
freshman in the field, she placed 12th in the 800 at the
state meet and fourth in the 1,600 relay. Collins, who
set a school record in the long jump at 16 feet, 83⁄4
inches, was also a T&G Super Team selection in indoor
track and a member of squads that won CMass titles in cross-country and
indoor track. She considers her most memorable sports moment to be
teaming with Titi Fagade, Meghan Leahy and Laura Williamson to set a
school record (3:56.81) and earn All-America honors with their sixthplace finish in the 1,600 relay at the Nike Indoor Nationals in March. She
is the daughter of Stephanie and Michael Collins of Holden.

o matter the sport, success and Dahlstrom go hand in hand. She won the
discus at the Central Mass. Championships by a comfortable margin after producing a throw of 119 feet, 1 inch. She
also was part of the 1,600-meter relay
team that placed second with a schoolrecord time of 4 minutes, 3 seconds to
clinch the team title for the Tomahawks.
Dahlstrom considers that team championship — one of five won by Algonquin this spring — to be her
most memorable sports moment. She went on to place
fourth in the discus (118-0) at the state meet. Dahlstrom
showcased her all-around athletic skills at the District E
Pentathlon where she finished third. She has been named a
captain for soccer and basketball next year. She is the
daughter of Diane and Todd Dahlstrom of Southboro.
here are few competitors who can
match Eke when it comes to individual
dominance in an event. The junior has
won three straight Central Mass. Championships in the triple jump, setting a
meet record each time. The latest came
when she hopped, skipped and jumped
40 feet, 23⁄4 inches, bettering the old
mark by nearly 15 inches while surpassing 40 feet for the first time. No sense in
stopping there. Eke, the defending champion, was second
at the state meet (40-7-3⁄4), marking the fourth consecutive
year she finished in the top four. Eke then went regional,
successfully defending her title at the New Englands, and
national, placing third with a jump of 41-4-1⁄4 at the New
Balance Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. She is
the daughter of Angela Eke of Worcester.
hether it’s blocking shots in basketball
or throwing the shot in track, Farrington is a standout. The junior put the shot
36 feet, 3 inches to claim first place at the
Central Mass Championships. That was a
remarkable improvement of nearly five feet
over the previous year when she was 11th.
In Farrington’s first trip to the state meet,
she placed a respectable 17th. A threesport Mid-Wach all-star, Farrington also
helped the volleyball and basketball teams reach the postseason this year while going a combined 28-13. A force in
the frontcourt, the 6-foot Farrington considers recording her
100th career block in basketball to be the most memorable
moment of her sports career. While undecided about college, Farrington would like to own a candy store. She is the
daughter of Jocelyn and Dwight Farrington of Shirley.

ilton hit the ground running as a freshman — extremely fast, we might add —
and hasn’t slowed down since. She helped
the 400-meter relay team set a school
record (50.34 seconds) and finish third in
a terrific and highly competitive race at the
Central Mass. Championships in 2008.
Hilton snared second in the 100 as a
sophomore in 12.95 seconds before
completing her climb to the top by handily
winning the 100 in 13.06 at this year’s CMass meet. Qualifying for the state meet three straight years and being part of
that record-setting relay foursome are the most memorable
sports moments for this three-time Mid-Wach all-star. Hilton
is also an avid soccer player and has helped the Crusaders
reach the playoffs each of the past three seasons. She is the
daughter of Judie and Scott Hilton of Groton.

has what it takes to go the distance.
After finishing fifth in the mile at the Central
Mass. Championships as a freshman, she
moved up the 2 mile this year and took
first in one of the closely contested races
of the day. Hurd’s time of 11 minutes,
23.09 seconds left her a couple of seconds ahead of a pair of other talented
underclassmen in Sutton’s Jessie Cardin
and Wachusett’s Rebecca Skodis. That was the second
CMass title for Hurd, a two-time T&G Super Teamer in crosscountry and winner of the Division 1 race last fall. Hurd went
to the state meet in three sports this year, finishing 14th in
cross-country, 24th in cross-country skiing and 15th in the 2
mile in track. She is the daughter of Emily and Tim Hurd of
Stow.

rumpoch entered some select company when she won an individual event
at the Central Mass. Championships for
the third consecutive year. She successfully defended her crown in the 400-meter
hurdles, setting a meet record with a time
of 62.76 seconds. She captured the 300
hurdles as a sophomore. Krumpoch then
won the state title, hurdling her way to
victory in a meet-record 61.21. This fourtime T&G Super Teamer also placed second in the triple
jump at the CMass meet. She owns the school record in that
event, having jumped 37 feet, 10 inches to finish first at the
Class A meet. Krumpoch, who’s headed to Dartmouth College, considers winning a state title in record-setting fashion
to be her most memorable sports moments. She is the
daughter of Tammy and Mark Krumpoch of Shrewsbury.

Championships after failing to break 100

Molleur uncorked a throw of 123-7 to
claim first. It was the fourth time she broke
the school record this spring. The good
times continued at the state meet as the
sophomore, one of just six underclassmen in the field of 24,
placed seventh at 119-2. Molleur completed a wildly successful campaign by also finishing seventh at the New
Englands, which she considers to be her most memorable

playing the guitar and piano, backpacking and drawing. She

onty had a super indoor track season, one that saw her capture the
55-meter hurdles at the CMass Division 1
meet for a second straight year, claim
the Division 2 state title and finish fourth
at the New Englands. The action shifted
outdoors this spring, but Monty kept it in
high gear. She won the 100 hurdles at
the Central Mass. Championships in a
meet-record 15.09 seconds and placed
third at the state meet in 14.87. That’s one of three
school records this three-time T&G Super Teamer graduated with, the others coming in the 200 and the triple
jump. While there have been countless memorable sports
moments, her performances at the New Englands indoors
and the state meet outdoors have special meaning. Monty
will major in nursing at UMass-Lowell. She is the daughter
of Katherine and Nathan Monty of Charlton.
n perhaps the most thrilling finish of the
day, Narbonne used a tremendous kick
down the homestretch to record a comefrom-behind victory in the 400-meter run at
the Central Mass. Championships. Her
time of 57.26 seconds wasn’t far off the
meet record and placed her just ahead of
talented seniors Titi Fagade of Wachusett
and Tiffany Daley of Algonquin. Narbonne
followed that up by finishing second at the
state meet (56.80) and sixth at the New Englands (57.86).
While sprinting is her forte, Narbonne showcased her
strength and endurance during a remarkably successful
junior campaign by placing 20th at the CMass Division 2
cross-country meet and third in the 600 at the New
Englands in indoor track. Narbonne also excels academically and is a member of the National Honor Society. She is
the daughter of Liz and Albert Narbonne of Lancaster.

estboro has a great tradition when it comes to pole vaulting, and Silva
added to the legacy with her win at the Central Mass. Championships.
The junior aerialist cleared 11 feet, 3 inches to set a school record and
edge equally talented teammate Lexi Walls for first place. Silva, who won
the pole vault at the Class A and Mid-Wach B championships, considers
that performance to be her most memorable sports moment. This two-time
league all-star also runs in the 400-meter relay for the Rangers, who went
undefeated in dual meets and won the league title. She also competes in
gymnastics and will captain Westboro for a second straight season next
year. Silva enjoys reading, shopping and spending time with friends and
hopes to pursue a career in research biology. She is the daughter of Katherine Dargan and

(2008, ’09), indoor track (2009-10) and outdoor track (’09). Williamson
makes it this time after scoring a runaway victory in the mile at the Central
Mass. Championships. Her time of 5 minutes, 4.55 seconds was the
second fastest in school history and earned her a second straight CMass
title. She won the 800 as a freshman. Williamson was fourth in the mile at
the state meet with another strong effort (5:04.58) and came in 13th in the
1,600-meter run at the New Englands. Williamson considers being named
an All-American along with Amy Collins, Titi Fagade and Meghan Leahy for
their sixth-place finish in the 1,600 relay at the Nike Nationals in March to be her most memorable sports moment. She is the daughter of Jerilyn and Robert Williamson of Princeton.

Byron M. Jones
Westboro High
Senior, Mile
t was a clean sweep for Jones, named
Hometeam’s Athlete of the Year in
track and field after being similarly honored in cross-country and indoor track
during a senior year overflowing with
success. Jones scored a repeat victory in
the mile at the Central Mass. Championships, lowering his own meet record to 4
minutes, 18.14 seconds while besting the
field by more than 8 seconds. He then
made it two straight wins in that classic distance at the
state meet, fending off numerous challengers while establishing a personal-best time of 4:13.20. That was the second-fastest mile run in the state and 34th fastest in the
United States this season. It’s also believed to be the best
time recorded by a runner from Central Mass. in at least
16 years. As an added bonus, Jones gained bragging
rights by surpassing his dad, a former standout in New
York, to become the fastest high school miler in the
family. Jones earned All-America honors in cross-country and indoor track as a senior, but it’s team memories
more than individual accomplishments that meant the
most to this six-time T&G Super Team member. “I think
the past four years have just been great,” said Jones,
who is headed to Columbia University to study biomedical engineering. “The team has just changed so much.
We’ve gotten better, and we’re so close.” Nothing helps
chemistry like winning, and with Jones leading the way,
the Rangers went undefeated in Mid-Wach B and captured the Robert Duncan Relays before finishing second
at the CMass meet. He is the son of Regina and Bruce

He cleared 6 feet, 4 inches to place

far off his personal best of 6-9 — to
take second at New Englands after
having been third the previous spring. The 6-foot-3,
170-pound junior displayed his athletic versatility by
finishing sixth in the long jump (21-1-1⁄2) and helping
the Pioneers’ 400-meter relay team place fourth at the
CMass meet. This is the second straight T&G Super

track this winter after finishing second in the high jump
at New Englands. Belton enjoys playing basketball

competing in track for a Division 1 college program.
He is the son of Donna and Tobey Belton of Westminster.
onsidered one of the fastest

season, Buskey only added to his
burgeoning reputation with some
great closing bursts in the
100-meter dash. The dynamic junior
blew away the field at the Central

11.11 seconds after having been
runner-up as a sophomore. He then
hit high gear at the state meet, clocking a schoolrecord 10.86 and settling for third place after getting
edged in a photo finish. Buskey then posted the same
time at the New Englands, good for 11th place. A
three-time Dual Valley Conference champion in the
100 and 200, the 5-foot-10, 150-pounder also won
the shot put at this year’s conference championships.

This year, he was a runaway winner for the Chieftains while establishing a meet record with a time

Cruikshank, the only underclassman in the field of
24, went on to finish fourth at the state meet
(55.50) before completing his season by taking
12th in the 300 hurdles at the New Englands. All in
all, it was a terrific year as Cruikshank also set the

successfully defended his title at the

That earned him a spot on the T&G

Wachusett Regional
Junior, 800
hile hardly an unknown, Hill
was considered a certified
long shot entering the long jump
at the Central Mass. Championships. But his first trip down the
runway resulted in a jump of 22
feet, 8 inches, and although
there was a long way to go, that
effort — a personal best by
nearly 21 inches — stood up for
first place. “I came down, took off, and it seemed
like it took forever for me to come down in the
sand,” said Hill, who also reached the finals of
the 100 meters and finished sixth in 11.74 seconds. A year ago, he placed ninth in both the
long jump and 100 at the CMass meet. Hill, one
of just three underclassmen in a field of 23, finished a solid 10th in the long jump (21-7) at the
state meet. Hill owns school records in the 100
(11.1), 200 (23.3) and long jump (22-8). He is
the son of Catherine Hill of Sutton and Richard
Hill of Bellingham.
orowitz has a hard-earned
reputation as a competitor
who peaks in the postseason,
and he did nothing to alter that
status this spring. Although he
just came up short in defense of
his Central Mass. and state titles
in the 2 mile, it certainly wasn’t for
a lack of effort. Horowitz finished
second at the Central Mass.
Championships in 9 minutes, 16.22 seconds, a
time that was 5-plus seconds faster than the meet
record he established last year. He was third at the
state meet despite posting a personal-best effort of
9:11.87. That time ranked 30th in the country this
spring. Horowitz capped his high school career in
scintillating style, producing a runner-up finish — by
a hundredth of a second — in the 3,200-meter run
at the New Englands. His time of 8:58.17 was
below the meet mark and was the 21st fastest in the
nation. This five-time T&G Super Team member is
headed to Bowdoin College. He is the son of Darci
Mickus and Gary Horowitz of Stow.

M
urray was bothered by nagging injuries for much of the
year, but he was healthy and
ready to go come spring. It
showed. The junior tore it up at
the Central Mass. Championships, shaking off a strong challenge from defending state champion Coby Horowitz of Nashoba to
win the 2 mile going away in 9
minutes, 7.38 seconds. That smashed the meet
record by 14 seconds and earned him the Johnny
Wallace Award as the meet’s outstanding performer.
Murray followed that up with a runner-up finish at
the state meet in 9:05.34 — a time that ranked 20th
in the nation this season — before heading to the
New Balance Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro,
N.C. He pulled off an impressive one-day double
there, placing 14th in the 2 mile (9:11.30) and 15th
in the 3,000-meter run (8:36.10). A four-time T&G
Super Team member, Murray ran in the Foot Locker
National Cross Country Championships in December and placed second indoors in the 2 mile at the
New Englands in March. He is the son of Cheryl
and Mark Murray of Shrewsbury.
erkins not only raised the bar
during his senior season, he
consistently cleared it while
showing a 2-foot improvement in
the pole vault from last year. He
emerged from a competitive and
crowded field to win the airborne
event at the Central Mass.
Championships with a jump of
13 feet after having been second
as a junior. Perkins then took second at the state
meet after clearing 14-6, an effort that matched
the previous meet record and was a personal
best. He considers that to be his most memorable sports moment. Perkins concluded a wildly
successful season by placing eighth at the New
Englands. The 5-foot-10, 153-pounder helped the
St. John’s soccer team win the CMass Division 1
championship in the fall and is a member of the
Patriot Pole Vault Club. Although undecided about
a major, Perkins will continue his academic studies and athletic career at Stonehill College. He is
the son of Lorrie and David Perkins of Shrewsbury.

he BMR soccer team named
Quitzau, a third-year varsity
member, its most improved player
in the fall. He continued that
upward trend during the track and
field season, winning the
110-meter hurdles in 15.45 seconds at the Central Mass. Championships after placing fourth as a
junior. Quitzau then matched that
time at the state meet while placing 11th. The
school-record holder in three hurdle events — the
55, 110 and 400 — and a two-time T&G Super
Team member, he was voted Co-Runner of the Year
in the Dual Valley Conference. The 6-foot-2,
180-pound Quitzau considers setting the school
mark in the 110 hurdles to be his most memorable
sports moment. In addition to playing soccer and
running, he enjoys skateboarding and snowboarding. Quitzau is headed to the University of Hartford
to study acoustical engineering. He is the son of
Karen and Paul Quitzau of Blackstone.
T
P
S
antana decided to come out
for the track team this season
at the urging of coach Wendy
Fenner. Good move. He made
his first appearance at the Central
Mass. Championships a memorable one, winning the high jump
with a personal-best effort of 6
feet, 6 inches, and grabbing fifth
in the triple jump to boost the
Highlanders to a fifth-place finish in the team standings. He considers that gold-medal performance in
the high jump to be his most memorable sports
moment. A three-sport athlete in the old school
mode, Santana will captain the football and basketball teams next year. This is the second T&G Super Team selection for Santana, the 6-foot-4,
180-pound forward having made it in basketball
this winter after helping Doherty go 16-5. When
not playing sports, Santana enjoys watching
movies and spending time with friends. He is the
son of Vivian and John Graham of Worcester.
J
agelsky unleashed a strong kick down the homestretch to post a narrow, come-from-behind victory
against a stacked field in the 800-meter run at the
Central Mass. Championships. His time of 1 minute,
55.93 seconds was a personal best by more than four
seconds and an effort he considers to be his most
memorable sports moment. That’s saying something
considering Jagelsky also helped the 1,600 relay team
win the meet’s final event, which clinched the Mountaineers’ first CMass team title in six years. Jagelsky placed
12th in the 800 at the state meet to cap a breakout year in which he
earned team MVP honors in indoor track after finishing ninth in the 1,000
at the Division 1 state meet. He helped Wachusett to fourth place at the
CMass cross-country championships. While undecided about college,
Jagelsky plans to pursue a degree in engineering and continue his running career. He is the son of Robin and John Jagelsky of Rutland.
Nick Person
Wachusett Regional
Freshman, 200
A
s debuts go, you can’t do much better than Person’s. The phenomenally fast frosh picked up a pair
of gold medals, in the 200-meter dash and the 1,600
relay, at the Central Mass. Championships as the
Mountaineers captured their fourth team title. Person
considers those two wins to be his most memorable
sports moments, something that undoubtedly will
change with such a promising future ahead of him. The
only freshman among the 24 qualifiers in the 200 at the
state meet, he posted a personal-best time of 23.39
seconds while finishing 15th. The 6-foot, 160-pound Person, whose dad
captained the Wachusett hockey team in the late 1970s, was also a
member of the freshman football and junior varsity hockey teams this
year. Person lists baseball, biking and running as his hobbies. He is the
son of Allison and Keith Person of Holden.
Richard Sterndale
Westboro High
Junior, Javelin
A
year ago, Sterndale was playing junior varsity
baseball. He switched to track and field this spring
and made an immediate impact in the field events,
helping the Rangers go undefeated in dual meets, win
the Robert Duncan Relays to end St. John’s 19-year
reign and place second at the Central Mass. Championships. Sterndale, the sixth seed, came through in
a big way at the CMass meet, winning the javelin with
a heave of 164 feet, 3 inches. It was a personal best
by 5 feet, a mark that lasted just a week as he
uncorked a throw of 171-9 to finish sixth at the state meet. A 6-foot,
180-pound running back/defensive back, Sterndale considers playoffbound Westboro’s 21-7 win over Thanksgiving football rival Algonquin in
November to be his most memorable sports moment. In addition to
competing in sports, Sterndale enjoys snowboarding and playing paintball. He is the son of Susan and Peter Sterndale of Westboro.
Matt Thompson
Clinton High
Junior, Discus
T
hompson turned in arguably the most dominating
performance at the Central Mass. Championships,
winning the discus by more than 18 feet after spinning
his way to a school-record throw of 161 feet, 9 inches. He considers that performance, for good reason,
to be his most memorable sports moment. This threetime Mid-Wach C all-star also excelled in the shot put,
helping the Gaels to a 7-2 record in dual meets. The
6-foot-1, 285-pounder is a standout two-way lineman
for the football team and played an instrumental role in
Clinton going 12-1 and winning the Central Mass. Division 3 Super Bowl
over Narragansett in December. He enjoys weightlifting and sports in
general. Thompson aims to major in history and compete in the NCAA
track and field championships in college. He is son of Tracey and Brian
Thompson of Clinton.
