New Projects West Harrow Decommissioning
February 2015
West Harrow
New Projects
Livis were contracted by London Underground to
undertake platform lowering and refurbishment
works at West Harrow Station.
Livis designed and installed a synchronized
hydraulic jacking system to lower a 20m section
of the existing platform 2. Eighteen computer
synchronized 50 tonne jacks were installed on
new reinforced concrete bases. The 20m section
of platform was lowered by 90mm. The works were required to enable compliance
with LU premises standard in relation to cross fall and platform train interface (PTI)
step gap requirements.
The lowering works were carried out during
possession hours on the 22nd November 2014.
Following the lowering works a 45 metre section of
platform was realigned to the consented horizontal
and vertical offsets. Works also include handrail
strengthening and painting and installation of new
stone mastic asphalt surfacing.
Decommissioning
This project saw Livis remove five 7.2 tonne
transformer switchgear units from multiple
locations across Kent and West Sussex.
The switchgear was
dismantled by hand into
sections weighing
between 1-3 tonnes,
from the substation area via A-frame.
Works were severely hampered by the environment and the
restricted access to the buildings which hindered the
removal of the units
Following the safe removal of the heavy plant the substation
floors were broken out to remove anchor points and made
good with resin to avoid any trip hazards. Surveys were
conducted to investigate for the presence of Asbestos and
Polychlorinated Biphepyl (PCB’s) which are used as coolant
fluids. We also removed non PCB oils.
Livis have been awarded the
following contracts:
Crossrail Sites
This contract is for the Civils and
Construction works to 8 new sub-station
compounds along the Crossrail route.
The sites extend from Maidenhead to
Shenfield. Works consist of various
equipment and transformer bases, trough
routes, security fencing, blast walls and
retaining walls. Works will run for
approximately 18 months from early
2014 to mid 2016.
Mornington Terrace
These works consist of the stripping of
existing adverts from platform walls and
make good the walls and cable covers.
To complete the project new x-track
advert frames will be installed.
Leicester Square
This project consists of the design,
modification and construction of fixing
brackets for X-track advert frames to four
platforms.
Camden Town
Livis were awarded 4 RVAR platforms.
The works involve installing platform
humps in engineering hours to enable
step free access to the carriages.
Farringdon
Livis were appointed the Platform
Interface contractor. Works consist of
re-aligning nosings stones closer to the
train to close the gap between platform
and train, by installing bespoke support
brackets.

Bring Your Kids to Work Day
On Monday 22nd December, Livis welcomed 14 very
special little visitors. Often our children have wondered
what we do all day whilst they are at school, so we
took the opportunity to show them. Karl, Callum, Cam,
Robert, Zak, Tom, Lucas, William, Kobe, Amelia,
Bradley, Ashleigh, Saskia and Sienna arrived to be
shown a short presentation delivered by Barry
Coulson-Smith. The children then had a tour of our
facility by Andy Cuthbertson. The morning was
rounded off with pizza in the board room and goody
bags to take away. It was an informative and fun
morning with the children thoroughly enjoying the
chance to see what Livis does and how their parents
contribute to our success.
Fundraising - Movember
Barry Coulson-Smith rallied the men of Livis to participate in last years Movember,
raising money for MAGIC (Medway Autistic Group & Information Centre).
A wonderful charity, close to Barry’s heart that gives so much support to his and
many other families with Autistic children.
Three departments entered their teams of four, Estimating, Stores and
Projects/Commercial. Barry set himself a target of £500.00, but with monies still
coming in from friends, family and work colleagues the final figure will be circa
£600.00. Barry would like to thank everyone for their generosity.
With photo’s taken of each team in the Bohemian Rhapsody pose, (which Estimating
took literally) Livis staff then voted for their favourite, with 47% of the vote, the
winners were the Projects/Commercial team with Stores and Estimating coming in a
joint second. What a wonderful effort made by all participants.
