MidWest America’s Newest Branch
Now Open
On December 14th, the doors of MidWest America’s new location on East
Dupont Road in Fort Wayne were opened for business. The arrival of the office was
celebrated with refreshments, giveaways, and various member specials. A ribbon
cutting was held on December 16th to celebrate the opening and to recognize the
hard work of all those involved in bringing this facility to the neighborhood.
The office, located at the corner of East Dupont and Diebold Roads, is the first
business in a retail development which will soon be named “Dupont Corner.”
Our branch will serve the expansive medical communities of Dupont Hospital
and Parkview Regional Medical Center as well as the large population expanding
in that area of the city. It will complement our branch at Lima and West Dupont
Roads, which serves members who live
and work in the northwest section of
the county.
Danielle Wetzel, Branch Manager,

Christmas is the Season for Giving
This season, MidWest America has been busy in our communities spreading
Christmas cheer. On the Saturday following Thanksgiving, a group of 23 MidWest
employees and family members volunteered at this year’s Fantasy of Lights at Franke
Park in Fort Wayne. The Fantasy of Lights is a drive-thru viewing of local creativity,
manifested in more than 75 larger-than-life animated holiday light displays. The
proceeds of this event went to the Blue Jacket organization which is a 10-year-old
local nonprofit whose mission is to provide education, training, and opportunities
to any disadvantaged person who is striving to earn a second chance at gainful
employment.
The 31st Annual Festival of Trees at the Embassy Theatre in downtown Fort
Wayne, concluded on December 2nd and set an attendance record of more than
20,000 visitors surpassing last year’s total by nearly 1,000 people. This year’s festival
featured 59 trees sponsored by area businesses, one of which was MidWest America’s
7-foot tree “Chestnuts Roasting.” Proceeds from the festival go to the ongoing
restoration of the historic theatre.
The Columbia City branch participated in their annual Walk of Trees event in the
historic lobby of the Clugston Senior Apartments by decorating a “Grinch” themed
tree. During the event, trees are raffled with proceeds going to low income residents
in the community.
The Hopkinsville, KY branch created a “Piggy Bank” tree for the Hopkinsville
Festival of Trees held at the Senior Center. MidWest staff members hand decorated
each individual piggy with various themes such as: Santa Piggy, University of
Kentucky Piggy, and a MidWest America Piggy. The trees from this event are also
raffled and go to benefit the Community Vision Plan 2020.
Rising Stars Campaign
For the fourth year, MidWest America partnered with Rising Stars to collect goods
for local schools during the holidays. Many children in our communities come from
homes that are struggling to provide basic needs for their children. These items
include new: socks & underwear, hats & gloves, gym shoes, and personal hygiene
products.
In addition to the large number of gifts brought in by our membership and staff,
employees raised nearly $1,100 to purchase additional items bringing the total items
donated to nearly 2,800! The items collected will benefit the Fort Wayne Community
Schools Clothing Bank; Little Turtle Elementary & Indiana Springs Middle School in
Columbia City; South Adams Elementary School in Decatur; and Andrews Elementary
in Huntington, IN.
We would like to thank our members, who helped make this drive such a success.
By meeting the critical needs of students, we can give them the tools they need to
gain an education and escape the cycle of poverty.
