WELCOME TO CONCLAVE 2013!!
I want to take this opportunity to welcome everyone this year to Conclave in Lewistown, MT. This has
been an exciting year for Montana DeMolay with the reinstitution of Highland Chapter in Butte and the
potential reinstitution of A.D. McDonald Chapter in Kalispell. We are growing!!!
We are trying something new this year by moving conclave from July to October. This is a first for MT
DeMolay and we are hoping to make it a tradition. This weekend gives us the opportunity to have more
participation as most of our young men are back from summer vacation. Another change is shortening
Conclave to 2 days rather than 3. In the past, 3 days has given us more down time than we need, so this
will also give us an opportunity to have everyone more engaged.
I want to congratulate Right Worshipful Brother Reid Gardner of Helena Montana. He received the great
honor of the Legion of Honor for DeMolay. Reid has been a big support for MT DeMolay and has done
many things to help support this wonderful organization. With his help and the help of Grand Lodge of
Montana, DeMolay has been able to make some terrific strides this past year. Thank you so much for all
that you do, Brother Reid.
I want to also take this opportunity to give a special thanks to DAD Dan Massey of Billings. He has
worked really hard to make this year’s conclave a great success. Dan came back into the DeMolay fold
nearly 2 years ago, and I am so glad to have him as part of my State EO Staff. DAD Dan has put a lot of
time and effort into conclave this year, and we know it will all be well worth it. Thank you DAD Dan for
all your efforts!! You are a welcome sight to Montana DeMolay.
I also need to send a shout out to all the advisors around the state who take time out of their busy lives to
support and help our boys. Without you, DeMolay in Montana would not exist. It is people like you that
help our boys grow into productive, positive influences in their communities and in their families. There
are not enough Thanks in the world to show how much you mean to me and all of our active boys. I can
never tell you how proud of you I truly am.
In closing, I am so very happy to be here with you this weekend and
am looking forward to all the amazing things to come in the next
year. We are all family and this time together makes it even more
apparent. Thank all of you for everything you do on a daily basis,
and I hope everyone has a fun filled weekend.

Friends and Brothers,
Thank you all for taking the time out of your busy lives
to come join us in our 83rd Annual DeMolay Conclave. I know
that I have been looking forward to it for quite some time. I
hope that everyone has some fun, and enjoys their time here.
I’d like to take this time to answer some fairly big questions. Why is Conclave in October this year? We are trying
something new. Over the summer, many of our member had
other commitments; to sports, to family, to travelling the
world. We hope that our timing this fall will allow many
people to come who usually couldn’t make it. We look forward to letting you know if this is something we plan to
continue doing or if we will go back to the midsummer conclave.
What has happened with Masquerade Ball? Since conclave is now so close to when we
usually hold our Masquerade Ball in Bozeman, we are simply going to have that dance during
our festivities here.
Let’s all work towards making this event enjoyable for everyone who comes, and as my
good friend and Brother Ethan Schaff used to say, “No Purple!!!!”
