Hello Mililani!
Summertime for
my family and me
meant travel this
year. We went
to
Washington,
Canada and the
East Coast. It was
a whirlwind! So I
figured for this month’s message I would
impart some of my wisdom to you. The
first wisdom nugget is this:
If you get the chance to visit Vancouver
and Victoria in British Columbia Canada,
do it! We spent about one week there and
we cannot wait to return. It is absolutely
breathtakingly beautiful, the people are
wonderful and the food is incredible!
It’s only a short flight from Hawaii to
Vancouver and a glorious 90-minute
ferry ride to Victoria. We drove our rental
car onto the ferry to tour Victoria Island
for a few days. They really have the ferry
system figured out. What a great trip, if
you have the chance, take it!
Second bit of wisdom is about packing.
Now this particular item drives my wife
crazy, but I can tell you it works and it
is a sure fire way to take the stress out
of packing for a trip. I pack on paper
first. On my phone I keep a packing list.
It’s all the same items but the amount of
days change. So a short trip to Vancouver
means I only pack 6 days of clothes but a
2 week trip to the mainland I will adjust
the amount of clothes and when it comes
time to pack I just have to read off the
list and load everything into the suitcase.
It eliminates the thinking and stress of
forgetting something. It drives my wife
nuts because I usually load the suitcase
the day of travel (just hours before to be
exact) but I already have all the things I
need listed so it works like a dream.
As you can see we have another Movie
by the Pool this month! I hope to see you
there!
Aloha,
Bob Barrett

Automotive technicians
are similarly compared
to doctors. Having the
knowledge to figure out
what’s wrong is the key to
efficient problem solving
techniques. This asset is
necessary for consumers
to save time on repairs. Essentially, time is money.
In the case of both the doctor and tech, the extra
time spent having to fix you or your car a second
or third time not only is expensive, it can be
detrimental to the car’s or patient’s condition.

1: Will the service advisor or tech take time to
listen to your description of the car’s problem?
We believe that it is truly important to take the
time to listen and “get it right” the first time.
Taking the time to understand your concerns are
of great importance to our team so we can nip the
problem in the bud.
2: Can they explain things to you in
laymen’s terms?
This question is one of great integrity. We believe
at Pearl City Auto Works that you deserve to
get an explanation that you can make a wise,
knowledgeable decision on the repairs of your
vehicle.
3: If necessary, will they
test-drive the car with you?
Yes. We want to hear or feel what you do in your
vehicle. We want you to feel safe and comfortable
driving your car with the confidence that the issue
you brought you car in for was taken care of.
4: Do they have the knowledge and equipment
to diagnose and repair it the first time?
We at Pearl City Auto Works take great pride in
our ability to diagnose and repair vehicles the
first time. We invest a lot of time and money to
take the worry away from the customer if we are
capable to have the right equipment and tools to
do the job.
Give us a chance to earn your business and
confidently know that we will honestly take care
of you and your car.

Homeowner Assessments
The MTA quarterly assessment is
collected in accordance with Article VI,
Section 6.02 of the Mililani Town DCCR.
Assessment due dates are January 1st,
April 1st, July 1st, and October 1st in the
amount of $102.00 per quarter (effective
April 1, 2010).
Quarterly reminder
notices are sent to homeowners. A
$10.00 late fee will be charged if payment
is not received by the 10th of the month
that payment is due.
There are 5 ways to pay
your assessments:
1. SurePay Payment Plan - SurePay
allows your bank to automatically,
electronically transfer your quarterly

2. Pay Online - To safely pay your
assessment online, homeowners

website
(www.mililanitown.org).

Escrow Demand Fees
and Transfer of Ownership Fees
When selling your home within Mililani Town
Association (MTA), your escrow company
will request from MTA what is referred to as
an escrow demand statement. This report
will provide the escrow company with payoff
information, in order to ensure all funds due to
MTA are collected for the property at closing.
These funds include amounts owed for both the
seller and buyer and can include assessments,
late fees, legal charges, and transfer fees
associated with the transfer of ownership of
the property. To recover some of the cost to
process such requests and ensure resources
are allocated to provide a quick turnaround of
information for the escrow company, effective
April 1, 2016, MTA will implement a fee of $25
per demand request to be paid prior to the
release of information.
MTA membership includes nearly 16,000
properties. Each resale of property requires
the update and maintenance of membership
information and billing records. A transfer
fee is charged to the buyer of the property to
ensure that MTA’s records are updated timely
and accurately. This fee is typically paid
through escrow during the sale and purchase
of the property. This fee is necessary for MTA
to recover a portion of the expense relating to
the administration of its membership records.
A $100 transfer fee was set in 2005 and has not
been increased in over ten years. Effective April
1, 2016, the transfer fee will increase to $300
for each resale of property.
Here’s how to sign up:
1) Go to www.mililanitown.org
2) Click on the link to sign up, enter your
account (include 3 leading zeroes), street
number (94 or 95) and your e-mail address.
3) You will receive an e-mail with an
activation link for confirmation. Click that
link, and you are enrolled!

pool instead of the traditional chlorine pool.
Saline pools are often touted as a 1“healthier”
and more “eco-friendly” alternative to chlorine
which can be harsh on skin and leave clinging
smells.
While saline pools do still contain
chlorine, the difference is in the way it’s added.
The traditional way to add chlorine to a pool
is to dissolve a tablet or pour liquid chlorine
into the water. Saline systems use saltwater
generators which deliver a constant stream of
chlorine, making chloramines less of an issue.
This causes the water to be less harsh on a
swimmer’s skin or eyes while also leaving less
of a lingering smell. The salinity is about 1/12th
of the salinity of the ocean.

STREET PARKING
The Mililani Town Association receives
numerous complaints concerning people
parking in No Parking zones throughout the
community.
All of the streets within the Mililani
community, with the exception of some of
the roadways within a particular townhouse
complex or patio home sub division, are the
jurisdiction of the City & County of Honolulu.
As such these streets are maintained and
controlled by the City and County. The
Mililani Town Association has no authority
or jurisdiction over any of these streets.
Homeowners and residents who are
experiencing difficulty with chronic violators
of City and County restrictions should contact
HPD to report specific instances. Residents
can also call the following phone numbers to
address specific issues directly:
Parking Violations
Abandoned Vehicles
City Complaint Line

733-2530
768-4381
You can also report problems online with
the City at http://www.honolulu.gov/csd/
concern.html#AboutTheDivision.
We Need
Your
Assistance
Imagine cutting your
grass when all of the
sudden a brown, gooey
or hardened substance
flies out of the grass
covering you from head
to toe.
The culprit:
Animal Droppings! What a mess to clean up,
and one of the hardest odors to remove.
The Covenants Specialists receive many calls
about dog and cat messes left in someone’s yard,
on the ground, along sidewalks, bagged and left
in the gutters, on the street, hanging on trees or
bushes waiting for someone else to dispose of it.
We are asking residents to assist us to help solve
this everyday occurrence. We could remind
everyone about the City & County Ordinance
but instead we are asking pet owners and/or
caregivers to simply do their part.
18 • www.mililanitown.org
Please clean up, bag, and remove your pet’s
droppings, for the benefit of the common area
landscapers as well as for every single person
who lives in Mililani. If you are a cat owner,
consider leaving a litter box in your backyard
for your cat to use.
