As a teenager in the 1960s, I never owned a camera so unable to take photographs of groups performing, I retained my show tickets and nabbed a few posters to plaster my bedroom walls, but alas they have long gone. Who would have thought back then, just how valuable they would be today, not in monetary terms but in the memories they would hold. My local dance halls, The Town Hall, Farnborough, The Central Club, Aldershot, and The Agincourt, Camberley, The Agincourt is still a music venue. For a teenager they were great places to be in the sixties, gosh what memories are flooding back to me. All the top acts of the era played in the venues, I remember queuing for ages to be near to the stage, I’m no different today, always at a show hours before it starts! Many teenagers fell in love with The Beatles, although I really enjoyed their music, I never fell head over heels, much favouring the likes of Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Searchers, The Kinks, The Swinging Blue Jeans, Hermans Hermits and many more, but a bunch of hunks from the North West of England stole my heart, a fabulous group calling themselves The Merseybeats, fifty years on, are still a very important part of my life.
Sharing some of my personal photographs, taken during the last 20 years, we look so young in some !
