En junio se llevó a cabo la ceremonia de premiación del Concurso de Fotografía 2008 “Ellas y Ellos”, organizado por

Graduación de “Jardineritos” con el apoyo del
BRITÁNICO
En junio se realizó la ceremonia de graduación de una promoción
más de jóvenes jardineros del programa “Jardineritos”, que el
BRITÁNICO auspicia desde el año pasado.
hogar de CEDRO, en labores de jardinería, con el objetivo de
insertarlos en la sociedad y en el mercado laboral, ya sea en
forma dependiente o independiente.
La señora Cecilia Bentín de Cruchaga, Presidenta del Consejo
Directivo del BRITÁNICO y el señor Federico Trelles, Director
Gerente Corporativo de Jardines de la Paz, entregaron los
Certificados de Capacitación y juegos de herramientas de
jardinería a los graduados. Asimismo, el evento contó con la
asistencia del señor Enrique Anderson, miembro del Consejo
Directivo y Thomas Malcomson, Gerente General del BRITÁNICO;
así como representantes de CEDRO.
Con estas prácticas de responsabilidad social el BRITÁNICO
quiere retribuir a la comunidad, la confianza puesta a lo largo
de los años.
El BRITÁNICO seguirá apostando por “Jardineritos”, programa
que ya tiene más de siete años gracias a la iniciativa de The
British Community Trust (BCT), quienes diseñaron el concepto
y lo vienen trabajando en conjunto con Jardines de la Paz. Este
proyecto se encarga de educar y capacitar a jóvenes de la casa

our impression of the
school is nothing but
positive. The schools
we’ve seen, at San
Isidro and San Borja, are clean and smart, with as much space
as any language school in London, and everyone’s friendly and
can’t do enough to help us. We’re especially grateful to Pilar,
to the lovely Dorothy and Ivy, and to the IT team, Jorge and
Geraldo and Julio, who even worked late and called our hotel
especially to tell us everything was set up for the next day’s
training. Not forgetting Nancy, the delightful girl in the café
who made an extra effort to look after us.
Your teachers show commitment to you, their students, and at
all times appear keen to develop and obviously care about their
teaching. As Cristina, one of the Surco teachers, told us ‘we´ll
do anything we can for our students.’ BRITANICO’s a good
place to learn, isn’t it?
As for Peru, we’ll leave with a warm feeling about the people,
having been hugged in the street by strangers and invited to
their home. In Trujillo, we felt they look after tourists, taking
care to warn us about dangerous places, they were on our side.
In Lima, walking round the Inca Markets, we weren’t being
hassled to buy things, just gently invited to look, which is a
refreshing change from other places we’ve travelled to.
We haven´t gone hungry, either, and the food is one of the
things we’ve most enjoyed: ceviche, yucca a la huancaina,
anticucho - and anything with aji. This is true whether we´re
eating in Miraflores’ finest place or a menú in a simple restaurant.
The only difficulty is deciding whether to wash it all down
with pisco sour or local beers. We still can´t quite eat chicharron
for breakfast, though, and have stuck to huevos revueltos.
At the end of the course, the farewell (¡hasta luego!) was as
warm as the welcome, with teachers forming a queue to thank
us with a kiss on the cheek.
All in all, we can see that Peruvians are proud of their country
– and rightly so. Thank you, BRITANICO, thank you Peru!

UVK Multicines presentará desde este 17
de julio en su local de Larcomar, la mejor
sala digital 3D de Lima. Este cambio a la
era digital consiste en dejar atrás el soporte
fílmico más conocido como el “rollo de
película de 35 mm”, que nos viene
acompañando desde hace 118 años, y
darle la bienvenida a la proyección digital.
En ella la imagen es más estable, luminosa,
precisa y los colores mucho más nítidos
(35 billones de variaciones de color).
Esta tecnología sumada al efecto 3D te
envolverá en una increíble experiencia de
realismo. De esta manera se promueve una

Advanced Phase News
First Certificate Expert Booklet with December 2008 exam
specifications
You should have received a booklet containing the changes that
Cambridge ESOL will introduce in the FCE examination from
December 2008 to supplement your FCE Expert coursebook. If
you are interested in taking the FCE exam in December, the
booklet will help you to get familiarised with the changes, which
as you may have seen, are basically that some parts of the exam
have been removed and that some others are in a different
order.
BRITÁNICO Advanced Phase teachers attended a presentation
given by the Studies Area on Monday 30th June in which the
changes in the exam were discussed and the booklet revised.
If you have any questions about the changes in the international
exam, don’t hesitate to ask your teacher about them.

Introduction of new series for the Advanced Phase
From January 2009 we will introduce a new series of textbooks
for our Advanced Phase. This is because that at the BRITÁNICO
we always want to offer you the most updated materials to
help you in your learning process and also due to the changes
in the FCE exam.
All the students who have started studying with FCE Expert will
be able to continue with their book provided that their
corresponding cycle with the Expert series is still being offered.
Please take this information into consideration if you are thinking
of not completing the phase in consecutive months.
As in all our introduction processes, the change will be done
progressively, starting in January with AD1, February AD1 and
AD2 and so on.

at the BRITÁNICO
In early June, IRINA CASTRO, senior member of the BRITÁNICO Teacher Training Team,
conducted two very successful workshops on BRITÁNICO BEST PRACTICE where 52 very
enthusiastic teachers had unique opportunity to reflect on their everyday classroom
teaching.
At the end of June, PILAR FERREYROS, Teacher Training Manager, conducted a session on
the teaching of pronunciation based on Headway Upper Intermediate. 32 teachers attended
the session which is part of the language enhancement programme for BRITÁNICO
teachers.

Last month, my Kids-10 students used all their abilities, imagination
and enthusiasm to complete their projects.

OCEAN DIORAMA:
The students printed out seahorses and fish, drew some seaweed and
brought seashells to create their own ocean scene in a box.
They pasted, coloured, cut and hung them in a decorated shoebox.
El día 17 de junio la profesora Rosalía Vargas ofreció
una clase modelo del curso Sounds in Action dirigido
a alumnos interesados en los cursos de pronunciación.
Nuestros alumnos asistentes estuvieron bastante
interesados en la sesión y se mostraron muy entusiastas
por las actividades presentadas.

“All good lessons and habits begin early, and saving is a skill that
everyone needs.” This seems to be these students’ motto, who eagerly
worked on this Car Bank.
Agradecemos también a la profesora Vargas por su
impecable y motivadora sesión.

Being a chef for some minutes

El 24 de junio a las 12 del mediodía se celebró el concurso “BEING A
CHEF FOR SOME MINUTES”, donde los alumnos de los diferentes ciclos
del nivel básico tuvieron la oportunidad de preparar diversos platos fríos
como: causa rellena, ensaladas, entre otros. Esta fue una gran oportunidad
para que nuestros entusiastas y creativos alumnos hagan uso del idioma
inglés en forma natural y espontánea, al describir el proceso de preparación
de sus sabrosos platos peruanos.
Al final del evento los invitados degustaron los exquisitos platos.

Once upon a Time…
Learning and Having Fun

“Once upon a time there was a father…”. Con este inicio,
nuestros alumnos de los niveles básico, intermedio y avanzado
dieron rienda suelta a su creatividad e imaginación, en la
creación de una hermosa historia acerca de sus papás. Los
entusiastas alumnos presentaron creativas historias, las cuales
fueron evaluadas por un jurado calificador. La elección de los
ganadores no fue fácil, pero finalmente el jurado eligió las
tres mejores de cada nivel. Estos fueron los ganadores: JOANNI
PAREDES del B3 de las 6:00 p.m., JORGE CALLE del I9 de las
8:40 a.m. y LOURDES VILLANUEVA del AG4B de las 2:30 p.m.
Last June 27th we had another karaoke session at ACPB Lima.
We always try to add variety to these sessions and that means
we prepare activities for BRITÁNICO students before they start
singing. This time Sandra Carmen and I organised an activity
which dealt with articles so that everybody could take part
in it. Our students were able to say when articles were used,
if the usage was correct or not, and if they were in the right
position. We used the song Penny Lane since it is very
exploitable if you want your students to practise articles.
Students were shown parts of the lyrics where articles were
analysed, they were given time to work in pairs, and then
they checked their answers by listening to the extracts. The
students did the activity enthusiastically as there was a
combination of music and grammar knowledge. Students at
Lima know that a karaoke session is time not only to relax
but also to learn and revise what they have learnt.
Agradecemos al profesor Dante Rodríguez por su apoyo
incondicional en la realización de este concurso y a nuestros
alumnos por su valiosa participación.

Profesor del Centro de Surco
En Surco, se llevó a cabo un “Basic tour contest”, el cual
estuvo a cargo del profesor Edson Medina. Esta competencia
se dividió en tres fechas en las que los alumnos a través de
distintos juegos pusieron en práctica el uso de los verbos en
tiempo pasado en inglés.
Durante toda la competencia los concursantes contaron con

Last month, we decided to hold a contest to see who could
identify some famous landmarks. The lucky winner was Gina
Rodriguez from F01. We would like to thank Mr. David Carlos
because his encouraging manner fired his students with

On June 26 th , a group of students from
different Basic courses attended a special
session about “How to deal with the New
Cutting Edge CD ROM”. As you may know,
we have been presenting this as one of the
special activities planed for this year. Thank
you to all BRITÁNICO students for their active
participation and enthusiasm.
Hubo una narración recordando las Tradiciones Peruanas; un canto, donde
tanto alumnos como profesores se lucieron; mucho "feeling" y ritmo con el
grupo musical "Los sin nombre", quienes hicieron bailar y aplaudir a más de
uno; la altamente reconocida e inolvidable obra "Romea y Julieta"; un tondero,
que fue todo un deleite y un sabroso "remix" a cargo de un grupo de entusiastas
profesores.
Realmente, los que estuvimos presentes tuvimos la oportunidad de pasar una
tarde súper entretenida, por lo que agradecemos su asistencia y los esperamos
en una próxima edición.
