Primera presentación
de la Orquesta del BRITÁNICO
El miércoles 6 de febrero, en el Teatro Británico, se llevó a cabo con mucho
éxito la primera presentación de la Orquesta del BRITÁNICO, conformada
por nuestros propios alumnos, algunos de ellos miembros del
Conservatorio Nacional de Música.
La orquesta deleitó y emocionó a los asistentes con temas de Beethoven,
Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart, entre otros.
Este proyecto es una iniciativa de nuestro presidente del Consejo
Directivo, el ingeniero Juan Lira; y cuenta con el apoyo del músico y
compositor clásico Duncan Haynes, como director de la orquesta, y del
saxofonista David Cabrejos, quien lo asiste en todos los ensayos.
Para formar la Orquesta del BRITÁNICO se empezó en enero del año
pasado con audiciones a más de 80 jóvenes que tocaban violín, viola,
flauta, trompeta, clarinete, trombón, contrabajo, saxo alto o chelo, y se
siguió con los ensayos y el perfeccionamiento a partir de abril. El proyecto
se creó como parte de las actividades extracurriculares para los alumnos
de nuestra institución.

Por un Planeta Verde 2013
Regresó la Reciclatón
del BRITÁNICO
¡Únete ya!
Nuevamente, el BRITÁNICO, con el apoyo de Fundades,
está organizando la Reciclatón, campaña en la cual
convoca a sus estudiantes a reciclar la mayor cantidad de
papel, en los tachos especialmente destinados para este
tipo de material.
Puedes reciclar: periódicos viejos, revistas que ya no leas,
cuadernos usados, exámenes, separatas, volantes pasados,
agendas de años anteriores, guías telefónicas, etc.
Los estudiantes de los centros participantes deberán reciclar
todo el papel que puedan durante el periodo de la campaña.
Todo el papel reciclado servirá para donar becas educativas
a los niños de Fundades.
La convocatoria se está realizando internamente, y en
marzo comenzaremos con los centros de Camacho, Los
Jardines, Pueblo Libre, San Juan de Lurigancho y San Miguel.
Estén atentos, Lima, Miraflores, Monterrico, San Borja, San
Isidro y Surco, ya que entrarán en carrera en abril.
El BRITÁNICO convoca a este importante concurso, dirigido a
sus estudiantes (desde los 15 años de edad) que estén
matriculados y siguiendo el curso al momento del concurso.

Estudiantes entre 15 y 19 años.
Categoría B
Estudiantes de 20 años a más.
Objetivo: Descubrir, a través de la cultura, las acciones que debemos
tomar para lograr un planeta verde.
Tema del concurso: Por un planeta verde
• Por medio de un artículo (*), hacer una propuesta que se pueda
implementar para ayudar al cuidado y la preservación del medio
ambiente. Los temas pueden ser el reciclaje, la contaminación, el
calentamiento global, el cambio climático, la ecología y la
biodiversidad, entre otros.

La fecha de inicio de clases de los cursos Diarios
y Superintensivos en el BRITÁNICO Surco, será
el viernes 1 de marzo, debido a que el viernes
15 de marzo se administrarán los exámenes
Cambridge English en dicho centro y no habrá
clases programadas en esa fecha.
Asimismo, la fecha del Progress Test (PT) en Surco,
para los ciclos que corresponda, será el jueves 14
de marzo.
La fecha de inicio de clases de los cursos Diarios
y Superintensivos en los otros centros será el
lunes 4 de marzo.

La puntualidad es sinónimo de respeto a los demás y en el BRITÁNICO esto merece nuestra especial atención.
El llegar tarde interrumpe la clase e incomoda al resto de los alumnos. Y quienes llegan tarde o su asistencia es
irregular tienen menos oportunidad de ser observados y esto afecta su rendimiento y evaluación final.
Les recordamos además, que existe un mínimo de asistencia requerida por tipo de curso. El control de asistencia
rige desde la fecha de inicio del ciclo, por lo tanto, los alumnos que se matriculan ya iniciado el ciclo se
consideran ausentes a las sesiones a las que no asistieron y éstas se contabilizan como inasistencias para el
máximo permitido. Para mayor información sobre el tema agradeceremos revisar la Guía del Estudiante que se
encuentra en nuestra página web.
Sobre la EVALUACIÓN.
Nuestra evaluación está basada en la observación continua
del trabajo del alumno y las notas que se asignan son
producto de este proceso. La nota máxima es 100 y la
mínima aprobatoria es 70 para todos los cursos regulares.
La evaluación está compuesta por dos grandes rubros:
Exámenes: escritos al final del ciclo (FE) o a medio ciclo
(PT), dependiendo del programa y exámenes orales,
dependiendo del ciclo.
“Continuous Assessment”: Esta nota es asignada por el
profesor dos veces durante el ciclo, en base a la
observación del desempeño y logros del alumno. De allí la
importancia de la asistencia puntual y regular a clase – los
alumnos con asistencia irregular pierden la oportunidad de
ser observados y monitoreados.

consultar a sus profesores sobre la evaluación en el ciclo
donde están matriculados.
A los padres de familia del Programa Infants,
Pre-Kids y Kids
Exhortamos a los padres de familia y/o tutores de nuestros
alumnos más pequeños a traer y recoger puntualmente a
sus hijos. El llegar tarde a clases genera angustia en los
niños, así como quedarse solos por largo tiempo luego de
terminada la clase, ya que sus compañeros salieron.
Asimismo, les recordamos que sólo los padres o tutores
debidamente identificados pueden recoger a los alumnos de
los programas de Infants, Pre-Kids y Kids.

This is what each of the three little pigs said to
the wolf every time they were in danger. The
expression has stayed in my mind since the day
my Advanced 4 students performed three plays: “The Three
Little Pigs”, “Hansel and Gretel”, and “Tom’s Nightmare”. Not
only did they use the language accurately but acted so well,
they seemed to be real actors! In order to make this more real,
parents were invited to see them in action, the best audience
they could have.
Durante el mes de enero se llevó a cabo el curso
METHODOLOGY REFRESHER (MRC) dirigido a profesores.
Parte del curso se ofreció en modalidad semi-presencial. La
parte presencial se hizo en nuestro centro de enseñanza de
San Miguel.
But it was not the time only for Advanced students to show
off, JUNIORS 5 had a chance too. The last day of classes, proud
mothers, fathers and even grandparents could hear their
children speaking English as an “Open House” was organised.
Students explained how festivals in the UK are organized; they
showed a video, prepared beautiful posters, and even snacks
according to some of the festivals they talked about.

Iniciamos exitosamente la oferta de nuestros talleres
especializados en nuestras instalaciones de Río de la Plata
160, San Isidro. En enero se dio el taller English for Emails
(EFE), actualmente estamos dictando el taller de
Presentaciones y para marzo se está ofreciendo el taller
English for Meetings.
También en el mes de enero, el equipo académico-administrativo
de BRITÁNICO Empresarial tuvo una productiva reunión de
inicio del 2013. En esta compartimos un grato momento de
Grupo del Taller EFE
integración a través del intercambio de logros y experiencias durante el 2012, además de comunicar la proyección de
nuestro plan anual de trabajo, siempre en pos de brindar y mejorar nuestro característico servicio de calidad para las
empresas y los particulares que necesitan el inglés como herramienta de trabajo y desarrollo profesional.
El 25 de enero fue nuestra primera sesión académica del año. Siempre a la vanguardia de la tecnología, tuvimos el primer
webinar de capacitación para los docentes de nuestra área: «Teaching Presentation Skills», a cargo de John Hughes de Oxford
University Press. Los docentes de BRITÁNICO Empresarial participaron de esta sesión transmitida en vivo para capacitarse en
métodos prácticos respecto a la enseñanza de inglés para presentaciones. Muy productiva fue la discusión posterior al evento
en la que los docentes pudieron intercambiar opiniones, experiencias e ideas con relación a la enseñanza de estrategias y
habilidades para realizar presentaciones.
Atentos a las necesidades de nuestros clientes internos y externos, hemos preparado una serie de novedades que se irán

These short extracts were born in the
brilliant imagination of the 19th
century novelist Charles Dickens who
was the most popular and beloved
author of his age. His works, whether
on page, on stage or screen, have
withstood the test of time.
He was born in Portsmouth, England in 1812, but moved to London
by the time he was ten years old and it was in this city that his
fortunes were severely impaired. His father was sent to debtors’
prison for spending beyond his means. Little Charles was withdrawn
from school and sent to work in a blacking-warehouse (an
establishment manufacturing, packaging and distributing blacking,
for cleaning boots and shoes). From that moment, Dickens began to
ferment ideas of social injustice which would become the staple of
his literary cannon and influence the world after his death in 1870.
By the late 19th century we see the growth of labour unions and
new laws designed to improve the lot of the urban poor: universal
education, the 8-hour day, workplace safety, unemployment
benefits, retirement benefits, and other things that are taken for
granted by many of us today. Dickens's voice was one of many, but a
very loud one, which helped to bring about these changes which
civilised the world.
It is said that his most well-known influence is “A Christmas Carol”
(1843). Prior to the publication of this novel, Christmas on December
25th in England was both a regular work day and a school day, not
a holiday, but the popularity of this book that portrayed Christmas
emphasising family, goodwill, and compassion was such that this
date was declared a holiday.
As a humanitarian writer, Dickens created a whole gallery of vividly
wonderful characters whose names have even become part of the
way people speak in the English world of today. For instance, if you
look up the word “Scrooge” (the miserly main character in Christmas
Carol) in a dictionary you’ll see that it is defined as someone “mean,
miserly and not generous”.

Llegaron las vacaciones escolares y con gran entusiasmo retomamos
el Programa Verano Full, dirigido a nuestros alumnos Juniors y Kids,
en el que les ofrecemos diversos talleres de artes manuales fáciles de
trabajar como una forma de sensibilizarlos y motivarlos en esta
interesante forma de expresión.

El mes de enero transcurrió pleno de alegría y creatividad, ya que tanto
Juniors como Kids se divirtieron pintando, creando y manipulando
materiales que les proporcionamos en cada BRITÁNICO que visitamos.
Estuvimos en San Juan de Lurigancho y Miraflores donde brindamos
un taller para elaborar un portacelular que los estudiantes pintaron y
decoraron con un bonito muñeco de tela. Asimismo, en Surco y
Camacho ofrecimos una clase de manualidades con tela en la que los
asistentes le dieron los acabados a un colorido bolso que decoraron
con flores y abejitas. Nuestro recorrido culminó con la visita al
BRITÁNICO Pueblo Libre, donde los alumnos disfrutaron mucho un
taller de Junior Chef en el que aprendieron formas sencillas de decorar
cupcakes y se deleitaron con su degustación.
El próximo mes continuaremos ofreciendo el Programa Verano Full para
Juniors y Kids, ¡los invitamos a participar en estos simpáticos talleres!

Dickens’ stories were so compelling and enthralling that they made
him become the single most popular author of his day, the William
Shakespeare of the Victorian age and his books, also considered
social documents, are still a point of reference to anyone wondering
what it was like to have lived at that time.
Keane: Si bien durante sus inicios fue comparada con
Coldplay, la banda originaria de Battle East Sussex ha logrado
imprimir su sello particular en el rock inglés contemporáneo.

Perhaps the best way to remember Charles Dickens on his birthday,
which is today, is by reading the splendid classics he left for the
people of his times, for us and the following generations. The truth
is that one day we will be forgotten after we die, but writers like
Dickens will always be remembered because their works and
contribution to mankind were significant and made them immortal
to their readers.

The New Year marked the beginning
of Derry-Londonderry's reign as the
UK's first City of Culture.
UK City of Culture
UK City of Culture is an initiative which is administered by the
Department for Culture, Media and Sport, where one city
every 4 years hosts events such as the Turner Prize, Brit
Awards, Man Booker Prize and the Sterling Prize, so that not
everything is held in London.
So, there was a competition and the winner was
Derry-Londonderry in Northern Ireland for 2013 and it was
named the UK's inaugural City of Culture at a special event
in Liverpool.
Did you know that Derry-Londonderry won the title ahead of
Birmingham (the second biggest city in England), Norwich
and Sheffield?

Lots and lots going on. There are many places where you can
follow their activities, mainly social media (hashtag
#LegenDerry) and even a dedicated YouTube channel, just
look up "DerryLondonderry2013"

*UK City of Culture mascot
Oaky Doakes is being used to promote
the city. It represents one of the 50 red squirrels
that live in Londonderry, wears a hat that is
actually an acorn (from oak trees) and is fun
and friendly,like the people of
Derry-Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
*Let's just remember that Northern Ireland and
the Republic of Ireland (whose capital city is
Dublin) share a border, but only Northern
Ireland is part of the United Kingdom.
2013: Exciting times ahead, it will be much more than a year
long celebration, an opportunity to explore and experience
the impact of cultural excellence ... a year that will surely be

Campaña Great Britain
La campaña Great Britain es una gran iniciativa anunciada
por el primer ministro David Cameron en Nueva York el 21 de
septiembre de 2011, con motivo de los Juegos Olímpicos y
Paraolímpicos Londres 2012. Entre las áreas más destacadas
están: tecnología e innovación, emprendimiento,
creatividad, conocimiento, crecimiento verde, patrimonio,
deportes, compras, música y vida rural, siempre resaltando
que el Reino Unido es uno de los mejores lugares del mundo
para visitar, vivir, trabajar, estudiar, invertir y hacer negocios.
Culture is GREAT
1. Tres de los cinco principales museos y galerías del mundo están
en Gran Bretaña. El ingreso a todos los museos y las galerías
nacionales es gratuito.
2. Gran Bretaña es el lugar de nacimiento de Charles Darwin,
William Shakespeare y The Beatles, así como de Laurence
Olivier, Charles Chaplin y J.K. Rowling, creadora de Harry Potter.
3. Gran Bretaña es la cuna de algunos de los más grandes
escritores del mundo —además de William Shakespeare—,
como William Wordsworth, Charles Dickens, James Joyce,
Lewis Carroll y Robert Louis Stevenson. Muchos de ellos se
inspiraron en el paisaje británico convirtiéndolo en
emblemático, como el Londres de las obras de Charles Dickens
y el Lake District de las de Wordsworth.
4. La historia del teatro británico es inmensa, desde la comedia de
la restauración en la corte de Carlos II hasta las obras de
Shakespeare, las cuales aún se escenifican hoy. Gran Bretaña es
también un semillero de la innovación teatral, con escenarios y
compañías, como Royal Court y Punchdrunk, que crean y
redefinen el teatro moderno.
5. Cineastas, actores y compañías han filmado incontables clásicos
del cine en Gran Bretaña, incluyendo en años recientes las
películas de Harry Potter, las cintas de James Bond y el éxito
mundial El código Da Vinci. Gran Bretaña también es
reconocida por la producción de excelentes dramas para la
televisión, como Downtown Abbey, comedias clásicas del
grupo cómico Monty Python y series que han tenido versiones
en la televisión estadounidense, como The Office.

El Colectivo Barajolka junto a la cantautora Magali Luque nos llevan a un
viaje animado en la arena, donde cantando historias infantiles
latinoamericanas, nos harán reír. Creación de Magali Luque y del
