NEW WEST CASH MOB _______________________________________
A
Cash Mob is essentially like a flash mob for
shopping. It occurs
when a gathering of people
arrive at a local store or business to spend a minimum of
- real gems that will provide
excellent locations for us to
“Mob” in the future. The response to the Cash
Mob has been excellent ! Organizer Heather Corbett indicates “Everyone I’ve talked to
about it nods their head when
they hear that it’s an initiative
to shop local and support the
New West small business community.” She adds “Everyone
has their favourite little place
to shop and so I’m getting lots
of suggestions on where we
should “mob” in the future”
Basic facts:
• Date & Time: Saturday,
March 2, 3-5
• Meeting Place: Sapperton
Plaza - small park beside Starbucks on East Columbia St.
• After Mob: To be revealed
shortly
• Mob Shop: To be revealed
We held our first ever Economic Forum in partnership
with the City, which was completely sold out and brought
recognition to the City that we
are the place to do business in
the Lower Mainland.
T
oday we celebrate our
130th Annual General
Meeting
Everywhere I go, when I tell
people I am the New West
Chamber President, they
pause, and say, “There is a lot
going on in New Westminster!”
In 2012, Chamber Members
invested $100,000.00 in Membership Fees and your Chamber is proud to have leveraged
that Membership investment
more than twice over, to deliver over $300,000.00 in services
and initiatives in New Westminster.
Our membership has grown
exponentially, as businesses
recognize that being a Chamber member will help drive the
success of their business. We
consolidated some our events
to make them more efficient
and successful, and in 2013 we
are celebrating our 130th year
as a Chamber.
There is so much interest in
the Chamber from local business leaders, that for the first
time in years we had to go to
en election to fill vacant board
of director seats. You will
meet your new board members at our AGM today.
Highlights of a few new programs and initiatives include:
• A year-long “130 Reasons
to do Business in New Westminster” Campaign in the
New Westminster NewsLeader and increased marketing efforts to attract new business to
New Westminster
• The launch of a brand new
website that acts as an information source for business in
New Westminster and a profile site for our Members
• The launch of a “Doing
Business in New Westminster”
Magazine
• Expanded Event and Networking Opportunities
• Expanded Programs, Seminars and Education Sessions
• Increased participation in
community programs such as
the “Welcoming and Inclusive
Communities” Project

THE ARTS & QUALITY
OF WORK LIFE ________
e all know the
arts are a benefit
to children, but
what about adults working
9-5? Studies have shown
bringing the arts into our
work can have tremendous
effect. Arts focused activities
and events can help people
think creatively, build team
spirit, strengthen social well
being, and increase connections to the local community - all-contributing to a
successful workplace. This

$20 each, proceeding to then
carry on the momentum of
the event to a local bar or
restaurant. The catch is that
the location of the Cash Mob
isn’t revealed until 48 hours
in advance, so there’s a great
element of surprise and anticipation, which makes it really
exciting! New West is a prime
location for a Cash Mob because there are new retail
shops popping up everywhere
may include things like hiring musicians to play at your
event, turning a brainstorming session into a collage,
playing calming music for
people waiting, role playing customer interactions
instead of reading a manual,
or installing local art on
your walls. The possibilities
are endless, and the good
news is they’re all fun!
What can you do to include
the arts in your week?
focus.
