Dear Boutique Partner,
We are very excited to be working with you! Our goal at Shoptiques is to help you get
your merchandise online and into the hands of customers! We are your partner on the
road to success. As an e-commerce company, we’ve come to realize that beautiful,
high-quality photos have a direct effect on sales. As such, we’ve created guidelines
and photography standards to help you sell product and make a profit through our site.
We hope you’ve taken the time to browse our site, it’s the best way to familiarize yourself
with our expectations. Below you will find photography guidelines that include examples
of images that are most likely to be approved or not approved. Once you familiarize
yourself with our process and guidelines, you will be able to add product as frequently or
infrequently as you would like. Pro-tip: our top performing stores have at least 50-100
products live on our site at any given time and add new merchandise on a weekly
basis.
If you are planning on supplying your own photos for the first time (either those you shoot
yourself, or those supplied by a vendor) we recommend you book an appointment with
Photography Support (link: shoptiquesengagement.setster.com/). Alternatively, you can
add a few test products to the site to better understand our standards before adding the
bulk of your merchandise. Images will generally be approved within two business days of
submission (but often times much quicker!). We appreciate your time and want to ensure
that when you invest in producing and uploading your images that they will be approved.
More products = more sales, and that makes both of us happy! If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected] or
646-360-2415. We are so excited to grow your online business on Shoptiques!
Warm Regards,
Your Boutique Success Team

Shoptiques Photography Standards
Hard and Fast Rules
If your photos do not meet the following criteria, they will not be accepted.
■ Images must be high resolution, and cropped/sized at 700 x 1050 pixels.
■ The whole product must be visible and should take up about 85% of the frame. ■ Any models shown must be cropped from above the lip down.
■ Lighting must be even and consistent, with no discoloration of the model or
merchandise, and no glare on the merchandise.
■ Apparel must be shot on a professional model, images featuring mannequins, busts
or flat garments will not be accepted.
■ Apparel models must be facing forward and standing.
■ Shoes, bags, jewelry and other accessories must be shot on a plain white
background
■ Images of shoes must be facing to the left in the main image, this image should
feature a single shoe, off the model.
■ Jewelry should be shot from a birds-eye view (directly on top of the product), at as
flat an angle as possible. Rings and large bracelets should be shot from the front, and
the type of jewelry must be apparent (ie. can tell the difference between a ring and a
broach). For necklaces, the clasp must also be visible in at least one of the images.
■ Bags must be shot from the front, and should not be hanging.
■ Gift and home items must be photographed outside of packaging.
Strong Suggestions
If you are adapting vendor photos and existing high quality images, reasonable
variations are acceptable, as long as the image and editorial quality are high. However,
this is a subjective standard, so if you are organizing your own shoot, we recommend
that you treat the following guidelines as hard and fast rules.
■ Images should feature a plain white background. (RGB 255.255.255)
■ For apparel, it is best to have at least two images, both a front and a back.
■ For apparel with a distinctive detail, we require supplementary images.
■ Images should be captured from a consistent distance and angle.
A reminder that we do not sell the following product categories on our site:
■ Cosmetics
■ Men’s apparel or accessories (including watches)
■ Children’s clothing or toys
■ Vintage apparel
■ Furniture
■ Items weighing over 10 lbs.

PHOTOGRAPHY AND LIGHTING
Photos should be hi-res and sharp when you hover over the image.
Images look pixelated on our site if they’re less than 700 x 1050 pixels when submitted.
Our zoom-in feature lets customers inspect the details and quality as they would instore. This helpful feature is proven to increase sales!

Lighting is EVERYTHING.
It affects the skin tone of the model, the color of the garment and the overall quality of
the image. Poor lighting can make even beautiful merchandise look tacky and cheap.
It's always best to work with a professional photographer to ensure your merchandise is
well presented. If you choose to do your own photography, please make sure all images
are well lit - natural lighting through a large window is always a great option. Also, we
recommend taking a few test shots to ensure the lighting is bright and flattering before
photographing the bulk of your merchandise.

Beware of dark images and lighting where black garments blend together
The image on the right is poorly lit. you cannot see how long the shirt is, and it blends in

Photos should not be stretched or distorted out of natural proportions.
STRETCHED TOO WIDE
SQUISHED TOO NARROW
The model/item should take up the whole frame of the photo.
There shouldn’t be empty space around the main image, otherwise the item appears to
be floating on the product page. TAKES UP FRAME

It is important that when you are resizing images to not distort the original photo. Photoshop is a great
tool to resize images, but there are also many free and easy to use tools that we can teach you how to
use. Speak to somebody on our team today! (646) 360-2415

When selling a top or bottom, use a cropped image for the main photo.
It is always best to have a main image that is cropped where the item being sold is the
main focus (front and back), as well as a full image of the model or side image of the
model, so the customer can see the entire look. Supplementary images really improve
the shopper’s experience! Images for tops should start from above the lip and end
above the knee. Images for bottoms should start above the navel and end below the feet.

You must be able to see the entire item/model in the main image.
Be sure sure the full item is fully visible, customers want to see every detail! Generally
speaking, the product should take up 85% of the frame.
CROPPED WELL
CROPPED TOO CLOSE
Photos should be taken from the front, at a consistent angle.
Doing this ensures that the model appears in proportion. In general, the camera should
be at the level of the model's belly button.

Backgrounds should be neatly removed.
Inconsistencies will be magnified when the customer zooms in on the product detail. Zoom

Textured backgrounds must fill the frame.
If using a vendor image with a textured background, make sure it fills the frame and
image. There should be no grey sides, or colored frame around the photo.

Editorial images must be of an exceptional quality clearly produced by a professional.
Only the highest quality editorial images will be accepted for the main image for any
product. However, we are more lenient about the use of images not on a true white background
if they are secondary images.

MODELING AND STYLING
Models must be professional.
Standard models are size 2-6 in US women’s, unless plus sized. Typical model
measurements: 5’8” bust: 32” waist: 24” hips: 34”. Using standard models keeps
photography consistent and also makes it easier for shoppers to understand how the
garment fits.

Please do not cover important parts of the garment.
If models are wearing long hair, it should not cover key parts of the garment such as
sleeves or other details. For the product on the right, is it a tank? Is it a halter top? We
would recommend, to be safe, shooting with the model’s hair up (beware of stray hairs).

The shorts have a ruffled top. For the item on the right, the belt is hiding the top of the
skirt. Is it a zipper closure? Does it have an elastic waistband? The customer can’t tell.

model is pulling the garment down, and the model is wearing hair ties on wrist.

JEWELRY AND ACCESSORIES
For jewelry and accessories, it is very important to include as much detail as possible
on sizing to ensure the customer will be happy with the product and not return it. In
addition to meeting our photography standards, product descriptions must include:
■ length of necklace
■ length of bracelet and height, if thick bangle style
■ length of earrings, if drop or dangle earring style
Backgrounds must be neatly removed to be true white, and the item clearly visible.

say, a necklace in one frame, please make sure you have a secondary image of the
clasp as well. If you have multiple necklaces with the same clasp, you can use one
clasp image for multiple products.

It is important to have measurements of the bag and the strap length. Especially if the
photo does not show the strap/chain, the description must include that information.
This will make the customer comfortable purchasing the item. An inside shot of the bag
is always best but if you do not have that image, a detailed description of pockets,
inside zippers etc. is acceptable. Please do not use images of bags that are hanging.
