President's Message
U$X Federal Credit Union®
14 everyday guys banded together back in 1938 to start this financial cooperative, which has
become U$X Federal Credit Union (U$X FCU). The depression had been going on for almost a
decade. Times were tough. There were forces at work to take advantage of the little guy either for
personal gain or to achieve an ideological end. Our founders, on the other hand, wanted to make a
difference for themselves, their families and their coworkers. By working together they could make a
difference.
The world today does not seem so very different from 1938. Economic times have once again
become challenging. Troubles and unrest are in the news throughout much of the world and even in
our own cities. Our members today work hard, try to make a difference, and want to make a better
world for our children.
It is time to remember what it is that made us great as one people. I believe it is about values not
about the issue of the day. We worked hard, were self-reliant, tried to do good and avoided harm to
others. We utilized our liberty to pursue our dreams and make a difference in the world. We did not
look for a free ride.
As both a member and owner of U$X FCU we are a resource you have to pursue those good
things. Our products and services reflect the combined strength of our members with better prices and
legendary service.
• Loans – every type of consumer credit product, available quickly, effectively, at razor sharp prices
designed to meet each member’s current needs.
• Deposits – A broad range of savings vehicles meeting every need to build for your future.
• Financial Advisor - U$X Financial Group delivers guidance about how to build for the future and
a full range of investment and insurance products that allow you to execute the plan you develop.
• Credit Management – almost everyone has bumps and bruises in their credit. Life happens. Our
loan group performs Credit Score Analysis’ to help members see what hurt them in the past and
a path forward for the future. Solid credit makes a huge positive influence in your daily life and
building your future as well.
• Transaction Services – access to your money any time anywhere. U$X FCU checking, debit,
credit cards, ATMs, mobile apps, home banking, and electronic bill payment help you meet every
financial need. The upgrade of our credit card products to the new EMV chip technology uses
every available tool to keep you and your credit safe.
And there will be even more to follow in the next few months. Watch our website for updates as new
products and services become available.
In these challenging times you have questions to ask and decisions to make. Who will I trust?
Who can I work together with to achieve my dreams? Who can I stand with when things seem chaotic
to try and bring our part of the world back into balance? The volunteers and staff of U$X FCU stand
ready to be the answer to each of these questions. I am confident we were born for a time such as this.
Thanks for being part of our credit union and part of the solution. Together we are better.
Best regards,
David R Ackerman, President/CEO

International Credit Union
Day Celebrates People
Helping People
On October 15, 2015, credit unions around the
world will celebrate International Credit Union
Day (ICU Day).
Since 1948, on the third Thursday of every
OCTOBER 15 2015 • #ICUday
October, credit unions have celebrated a simple but radical idea—that by working
together, people can improve their financial well-being. “People helping people,” this
year’s ICU Day theme, is the foundational philosophy of the credit union movement,
going back to the very beginning.
“Credit unions must do their part. We must share our knowledge, our experience,
and our dreams,” World Council Board Chairman Grzegorz Bierecki said earlier this
year. “It is the duty of free people to support freedom.”
Locally, as a member of U$X Federal Credit Union, you and your financial
stability are our top priorities. This simple philosophy empowers people, wherever they
are in the world or life, to take control of their own financial future. We invite you, our
members, to take advantage of ALL U$X FCU’s products and services to meet your
banking and borrowing needs with our member friendly, low-priced services. Globally,
you’re part of a much bigger movement—the credit union movement—working
towards global good each and every day. That’s definitely something to celebrate!
In honor of International Credit Union Day, our staff will be treating members to
refreshments throughout the week of October 12th. Everyone that visits our offices
during the week will be entered into a random drawing to win a VISA gift card.*
So when we wish you a Happy ICU Day at U$X Federal Credit Union, know that
we’re thanking you for belonging to a movement that’s helping your neighbors—and
people around the world—grow and thrive and follow their dreams.
If you have any questions about the credit union philosophy or how
U$X Federal Credit Union can help you, stop by or contact us at 888-219-3159 or at
[email protected]. Come celebrate with us!
*No purchase necessary. Open to U$X FCU members that visit our offices only.
The gift card drawing is scheduled for the afternoon of Friday, October 16, 2015.
Winner need not be present and will be contacted by credit union staff.

10 easy steps to clean your infected computer
Computer acting suspect? You log onto your computer and it takes
forever to boot. When it finally does, a few unfamiliar applications litter
your desktop, and your browser immediately sends you to an ad for hair loss
products.
Sounds like your PC has a problem with malware. So what should you
do? Before you flip out, do a little digging and check for symptoms.
• Does your web browser freeze or become unresponsive?
• Do you get redirected to web pages other than the ones you are trying to visit?
• Are you bombarded with pop-up messages?
• Does your computer run slower than usual?
• Do you see new icons on your desktop that you don’t recognize?
These are just some of the issues that are characteristic of a malware infection. Unfortunately, even if you see nothing wrong with your computer, there may be trouble brewing under the surface, sneaking around and screwing with your files undetected. So here’s what to do:
1.Use protection: Enter safe mode.
•Remove CDs and DVDs, and unplug USB drives from your computer. Then shut down.
•When you restart, press the F8 key repeatedly. This should bring up the Advanced Boot Options menu. (Or F11 if F8 does not work)
•Select Safe Mode with Networking and press Enter. Only the bare minimum programs and services are used in this mode. If any malware is programmed to automatically load when Windows starts, entering safe mode may block the attempt.
2.Back up your files, including documents, photos, and videos. Especially cat videos.
•Do not back up program files, as those are where infections like to hide. You can always download these programs again if files are lost.
New U $X FCU
3.Delete temporary files.
•To speed up your virus scanning, free up disk space, and possibly even
get rid of some malware, delete your temporary files using Disk Cleanup.
•For Windows 8, select Start and search for System Tools. Then select Disk Cleanup. For Windows 7 or lower, select Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then Disk Cleanup.
4.Download an on-demand malware scanner such as
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
•Follow set-up instructions and install the program.
5.Disconnect from the Internet. Then run a scan.
•If you truly believe you are infected, do not pass go, do not collect $200. Just go directly to the scan. If you do have an infection, your on-demand scanner should let you know that you are in danger. A list of scan results tells you what malware was found and removed.
6.Restart your computer. After all, everyone deserves a second chance.
7.Confirm the results of your anti-malware scan by running a full scan with another malware detection program.
•Restart again if the program found additional infections.
8.Update your operating system, browser, and applications.
•If there’s an update available on any of your software, go ahead and do
it. Some of the most dangerous forms of malware are delivered by “exploits” that take advantage of out-of-date software.
9.Reset all of your passwords.
•Before being deleted, malware could have captured your passwords and forwarded them to hackers. Change each and every password you can think of, and make sure they’re strong. None of this 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 business. That’s the combination an idiot would use on his luggage.
10. If, after all of these steps, you’re still having problems with a possible infection, feel free to post your question in our public forum.

Three important factors when it comes to your financial life. Regardless of how
the markets may perform, consider making the following part of your investment
philosophy:
Diversification - The saying “don’t put all your eggs in one basket” has real value
when it comes to investing. In a bear OR bull market, certain asset classes may perform better than others. If your assets are mostly held in one kind of investment (say,
mostly in mutual funds, or mostly in CDs or money market accounts), you could be hit
hard by stock market losses, or alternately lose out on potential gains that other kinds
of investments may be experiencing. So there is an opportunity cost as well as risk.
This is why asset allocation strategies are used in portfolio management. A
financial professional can ask you about your goals, tolerance for risk, and assign
percentages of your assets to different classes of investments. This diversification is
designed to suit your preferred investment style and your objectives.
Patience - Impatient investors obsess on the day-to-day doings of the stock
market. Have you ever heard of “stock picking” or “market timing”? How about
“day-trading”? These are all attempts to exploit short-term fluctuations in value.
These investing methods might seem fun and exciting if you like to micromanage,
but they could add stress and anxiety to your life, and they may be a poor alternative to a long range investment strategy built around your life goals.
Consistency - Most people invest a little at a time, within their budget, and
with regularity. They invest $50 or $100 or more per month in their 401(k) and
similar investments through payroll deduction or automatic withdrawal. In essence, they are investing on “autopilot” to help themselves build wealth for retirement and for long range goals. Investing regularly (and earlier in life) helps you to
take advantage of the power of compounding as well.
If you don’t have a long range investment strategy, talk to a qualified financial
advisor today.
