Two Weeks
The Professional Development Courses for Teachers of English aim to meet your professional needs in all aspects of
English language teaching. You have a choice of three courses:
• Refresher Course for Overseas Teachers
This course provides practical activities and ideas to use in your own classroom.
• Teaching Knowledge Test Course (TKT)
This course prepares you for the TKT examination with focus on terminology and methodology. Especially suitable for newlyqualified teachers.
• Content and Language Integrated Learning Course (CLIL)
This course provides functional, grammatical and
lexical components to help you deliver more effective
CLIL lessons.
Afternoon Programme
The afternoon sessions complement the academic
component of the programme. Through a series of visits
to places of historical interest as well as lectures and
workshops, you gain an overview of the culture, the
history and the education system of Ireland.

One Week
The Executive and Professional Course develops the communication skills you need to conduct professional tasks
with complete confidence. It is highly interactive and based on extensive use of problem solving, practical role-plays
and realistic case studies.
The course may include:
• conducting meetings and discussions
• making presentations
• dealing with facts and figures
• interviewing
• negotiating techniques
• management styles and leadership
• describing trends
• a choice of stimulating topics such as sales and marketing, human resources, quality management and cross-cultural
issues
During the afternoon, the course focuses on task-based practice related to the areas covered in the morning.
You can supplement your Executive and Professional Course with individual tuition during the free afternoons.
Individual Tuition
Individual tuition offers the most rapid, relevant and cost-effective form of language training. To maximise success, your
tutors can focus on general English or on the language skills you require for your profession or studies.
You can choose any number of hours to suit your specific needs. You can start any Monday and continue for any number of
weeks.

Gold Programme
The Gold Programme is an interesting language and cultural activities course developed to suit the over-50s age group.
ACET offers a special tailor-made programme combining enjoyable language practice while discovering Ireland, and in
particular Cork and its culture. The programme is flexible and aims to suit the needs and interests of the group.
The English course focuses on developing practical communication skills both inside and outside the classroom. In the
relaxed and productive atmosphere in class, you develop your skills, increase your vocabulary and become a more confident
speaker.
The programme includes a full social programme.
Professional Work Experience /
Internship Programme
ACET arranges placements with suitable companies and you benefit from the opportunity to improve your English and your
career prospects, as well as your knowledge and experience. You are placed in a company doing business that is
complementary to your planned career. The work undertaken during the placement is UNPAID and must be considered as
educational and part of the on-going training programme.

Student Residence
We are proud of our accommodation quality standards
developed over the years. We monitor quality through regular
inspection visits by our experienced Accommodation
Advisors. During your stay, you complete evaluation
questionnaires on your homestay or your apartment, which help
us to ensure the highest standards are maintained.
It is important to choose the accommodation option which suits
your needs and preferences.
Whether you select the cultural experience of living in a
homestay or the independence of an apartment or a hotel, you
can be sure the highest standards are met.
You can choose from the following

Living in an Irish Home
Homestay accommodation is ideal for you if you wish to
immerse yourself in the unique culture of Ireland. Living in an
Irish home is an excellent way of improving your English and
experiencing everyday life in Ireland in a welcoming and
supportive environment. You stay in a good residential area
of Cork, close to a bus route. You live in a home we have
selected on the basis of a warm friendly atmosphere and
clean comfortable surroundings.
Homestay
Coppinger Court
You are accommodated on a half board basis from Monday to
Friday and on a full board basis at the weekend. To ensure that
you practise English, you are the only speaker of your
mother tongue placed in your homestay.
Living Independently in an ACET Apartment
If you want to be more independent, select one of our
comfortable modern apartments. The contemporary
apartment complexes are located 10 minutes’ walk from ACET
and the city centre.

Life
Beyond the Classroom
Cork is a welcoming city to all its visitors. There is an ongoing
programme of entertainment including the Jazz festival, the Choral
festival, the Film festival and many weekend festivals.
You have the opportunity to experience and familiarise yourself
with Irish culture while in Cork. From traditional Irish pubs to
modern European nightclubs, from cosy theatres to multiplex
cinemas, you can improve your English while enjoying a varied
social life.
Cork is an ideal location for sports enthusiasts whether you are
interested in football, golf, cycling, tennis, sailing, fishing,
windsurfing, canoeing or other sports.
ACET organises many social and cultural activities. You might
want to learn Irish dancing and practise your new skills at a
traditional Irish dance known as a "céili". You can join our
experienced guides on excursions to the beautiful south and west,
visit Blarney Castle where, according to the legend, the magic
stone gives you the gift of eloquence or become a qualified Irish
whiskey taster at Jameson Distillery.
