new Sequim Civic Center and City Hall, which was then
followed by tours of the new facility. Sequim resident
Pat Johansen was asked to cut the ribbon on the new
Police Station, which would not have been built if she

Rock Hollow Farm
ART JAM 2015 is gearing up for its second
annual art show and sale happening in the barn at
Rock Hollow Farm, 505 E. Silberhorn Road. New
this year to this amazing space is special guest artist
Tammy Hall, driftwood artist extraordinaire. An
artist for 50 years, Hall sculpts “letting the wood
inspire the piece and go where it leads rather than
making it fit my ideal.” Ten artists (see www.Rock
HollowArts.com) sharing their techniques and visions are all part of the fun and intimacy. Creative
energy will be flowing and you are all part of the
plan! Don’t miss the interactive art event! For more
information, e-mail Susan Gansert Shaw at Rock
Hollow Farm at [email protected].
Sequim Community Orchestra
Sequim Community Orchestra presents a concert at 7 p.m., Friday, June 19, at Trinity United
Methodist Church, 100 N. Blake Ave. in Sequim.
This is a free concert with music from Beethoven,
Bizet and a suite featuring themes from the British TV production so popular with U.S. viewers
“Downton Abbey.” The orchestra members and
music director Phil Morgan-Ellis have planned
this concert as a thank you to the Sequim community for its strong support and invite the audience to come enjoy its short program and share
refreshments afterward.

you. Contact Sandy Hutter, volunteer coordinator,

Coffee with the mayor
Sequim residents can meet informally with
Mayor Candace Pratt at 8:30 a.m. Thursdays,
June 4 and June 18, at the Oak Table Café, 292 W.
Bell St. The mayor will be at a different published
location each month, along with a notepad to take
notes, to listen to anyone who wants to chat, ask
questions, express a concern, or make a comment
about the city or the community. Contact Candace
Pratt at [email protected] or call 582-0114

Clallam County League of
Women Voters’ events in June
Clallam County Charter Review Commission
is holding another set of public hearings in June.
What is the county charter and why do we have
it? The Clallam County League of Women Voters
will help explain by holding informative sessions
before the next three Charter Review hearings on
“Our County Charter in Context.” The Clallam
County Home Rule Charter fits within a system
of state, local and federal law, and holds a special
place as our “local constitution.” Join lawyer
Lindsey Schromen-Wawrin for a presentation
and discussion on what this means in regard
to what is in the county charter and what we
should consider when we consider changing
it. Schromen-Wawrin grew up in Port Angeles
and now works as a constitutional law and civil
rights attorney. His practice focuses on issues
of government authority and accountability. He
holds a J.D. from Gonzaga University School of
Law and a B.A. from Oberlin College.
The County Charter Review Commission
meets on June 15 in Sequim in the Transit Center and June 29 in Port Angeles in the county
commissioner meeting room. The League
sponsored presentation will precede the commission hearings at 5 p.m. in Sequim and at 4:30
p.m. in Port Angeles. For more information,
see lwvcla.org.
Blue Whole Gallery
celebrates its 18th anniversary
On June 14, 1997, the Blue Whole Gallery,
129 W. Washington St., an artists’ co-op with
26 members, opened its doors. What started as
“an experiment in excellence, a fine art gallery of
professional artists pursuing creative originality”
has continued and thrived to this day. The gallery has 30 artists working with oil, acrylic and
watercolor, mixed media, assemblage, photography, fused glass, metal sculpture, ceramics, wood
sculpture and turning, and jewelry. As we begin
our 18th year, look for new and exciting shows
highlighting quality and originality. With thanks
to enthusiastic supporters of the community,
the Blue Whole Gallery will continue to bloom!
“On the Scene for June Bloom” - Blue Whole
Gallery celebrates its 18th anniversary from 5-8
p.m. on First Friday, June 5. Enjoy the group
show in the front windows. The new exhibit will
be on throughout June.
Sequim MFR
Sequim MFR will be offering a lecture at
5 p.m. June 24 titled “Pain Management Solutions” by Ulia Cummings, at Sequim MFR, 181
Duke Drive. RSVP to 360-216-6088. More info

IT’S FLOWER BASKET TIME!
Sequim’s Flower Baskets are hung!
You know spring has sprung in Sequim when you see the arrival of the beautiful
community-flower baskets! Visitors to Sequim often comment on their splendor,
along with the number of baskets displayed and their ample size.
The Chamber wants to extend a sincere “thank you” to everyone involved in this
team project; much appreciation goes out to the Sequim School District AND Steve
Mahitka, along with the horticulturist students for the creation of the 140
amazing flower baskets.
This wouldn’t be possible without the sponsors, Emily Westcott’s dedication to the
project, and of course the City of Sequim for maintaining each basket.
There is still opportunity to sponsor a flower basket! When you sponsor a basket,
the pole holding the basket will bear the name of your business, service
organization or individual who sponsors it.
For more information regarding the beautiful Community Flower Baskets please
contact the Emily Westcott at 360-670-6294.
