Being part of the Cancer Institute of Iran,
Cancer Research Center is one out of nearly 100
research centers affiliated to Tehran University
of Medical Sciences. It is also the secretariat for
Cancer Center of Excellence and secretariat for
the National Cancer Research Network. This
Center has successively gained the third rank in
research domestically for the past few years by
growing steadily in education and research and it
is currently known as one of the state’s important
research centers.
Cancer Research Center has adopted the approach
to develop and materialize the objectives of the
National Cancer Control Program in Iran and its
core programs for doing so are:
Holding national and international congresses,
seminars and workshops
Establishing bio- and tumor-banks for grass root
cancer research
Prevention
Developing a patient education system
Screening and early detection
Supporting student research
Diagnosis and treatment
Palliative and supportive care to increase
quality of life of cancer patients
Some of the Center’s main activities
include:
Conducting research on environmental and
occupational causes of cancer
Implementing the National Cancer Control
Program
Planning and policy making of expensive cancer drugs
Preparing of the national comprehensive plan for
palliative and supportive care of cancer patients
Cancer Research Center has been able to
obtain the approval and execute more than
200 research projects and publish more than
260 scientific articles since its establishment
in 2004.

In fulfilling its national mission, Cancer
Research Center intends to lead research
on cancer by turning into a national
and international reference body for
the research in Iran. It also intends to
achieve the aforesaid goals, increase
knowledge on cancer and play an
important role in the world ranking of
