The Christmas party season is now upon us, and with it comes an endless
procession of parties and social gatherings. Sutton Coldfield professional make
up artist Allison Tye shows Journal readers how to vamp up your daytime
make-up to create a sexy, glamorous Christmas party look – perfect for taking
you straight from the office to post-work get-togethers.
A
llison begins by moisturising the skin with
Clinique Dramatically Different moisturiser (1)
before applying a mix of YSL Perfect Touch
foundation and Mac Strobe cream illuminator
with a foundation brush. A dab of Touch Éclat is
applied under the eyes, and Clinique Ultra
Translucent powder in invisible blend and Bobbi
Brown shimmer brick bronzer (2) complete the

Tresor d‘Afrique eye shadow and the Dior night butterfly eye
shadow set (5), using the black over the lids and more aubergine to
outline the eyes (6).
A sweep of Mac black track fluid line gel eye liner along the top lash
line and Dior silver pencil crayon eyeliner in Argent metallic highlights
the inner eye (7).
Allison finishes with Dior Ultra Smooth high impact eye shadow in
crystal white over the top of the lid (8).
The look is completed with Mac lipstick in Cherish and Dior Addict
lip polish on the lips, and a final touch of Bobbi Brown shimmer brick
bronzer on the cheeks.
Allison’s key trends for Christmas party make up include smoky
eyes, which are big news again this season, and plums, purples
and aubergines are the colours to wear.
This creates a more glamorous look which is softer and so much
more wearable than last year’s gothic blacks and greys.
Lashings of black mascara are essential, and make sure you use
eyelash curlers – they make the world of difference if you are not
daring enough to go for the glamorous look of false lashes.

Tips for applying day and party make up:
• Always prep your skin with a good exfoliator and moisturiser.
Foundation primers are excellent as well as they smooth the
skin and help keep your foundation looking fresh and polished
for longer.
• If you find your foundation is hard to apply and dries quickly,
use a little of your moisturiser to mix in. This will help blend and
create a more even flawless finish. A skin illuminator such as
Mac Strobe cream is fab for mixing with foundation for that
perfect dewy finish.
• Tired party eyes can be made to look sparkling again with a
soft lilac colour brushed over the lid. If your eyes are on the
smaller side use a paler colour over the entire lid. This also acts
as a great base when you’re going straight out from work to a
party.
• Glitter can be tricky to apply – fragments can end up under
the eye and can look very messy. A good tip is to brush loose
powder under the eye area (don’t blend) and brush the excess
off after you have finished applying the glitter. This should catch
any debris that has dropped under the eye area and brush off
easily. Mac, Dior and NARS all have a great selection of
sparkling shades for the eyes. A tiny slick of Vaseline over the
lid can lock the glitter onto the eye for longer.

Butterfly eye shadow compact, applying the pale lilac all over the lid
and then the aubergine along the socket line and lash lines. Lashes
are enhanced with YSL Faux Cils mascara (3).
Mac Spice lip liner (4) and Dior Addict lip polish create simple, nude
lips, perfect for daytime.
To transform the subtle day look into nighttime glam, Allison fixes
Eyelure Naturalites false eyelashes in Glamour, before applying YSL
