CHAIRMAN’S REPORT- David Brause
One month into 2006, and
YM/WREA is already off to
a fantastic start! Our
energetic Board is working
hard to make this year our
best ever. As of this date,
we already have our first
six speakers lined up.
January’s luncheon
speaker, Michael Fascitelli,
President of Vornado
Realty Trust, spoke
brilliantly to our largest
attendance in many years.
His bullish remarks explored the current state of the
public REIT market and the future of the New York
City office leasing and sales markets.
We are excited to welcome our February speaker,
George Ross, Senior Counsel of The Trump
Organization and a star of the hit television show
“The Apprentice.” As always, we are sure he will be
both entertaining and informative!
Our speakers will inform our members about varied
topics in real estate, including the office, retail, hotel
and residential markets in New York, as well as
condo/hotel conversions, architecture and new
construction. I must thank each member of the
Board and the many members of the organization
who have helped secure these excellent speakers.
Please let me know if you have any additional
speaker suggestions.
Our committees are hard at work on planning new
events, increasing member participation, reaching out
to the best and brightest potential members and
giving back to our community. The Issues & Actions
Committee has already met to start planning our busy
calendar! I encourage each member to get involved
in the planning of our events and to contact Board
Members with your feedback. As a new initiative this
year, I have asked each new 2005 member to join a
committee to plan out an event in 2006. This will be
a wonderful way to allow our new members to quickly
get involved in our organization and meet new
people.
Each member of your Board is truly committed to
improving our outstanding organization and keeping
the membership informed and involved. If you have
any suggestions or would like to get more involved,
please contact me at [email protected] or at
(212) 697-5454. Thank you for your support!

ISSUES AND ACTIONS

I am pleased to announce that the 2006 Issues & Actions Committee is geared up for an amazing year full of exciting events. The
inaugural meeting of the 2006 Issues and Actions Committee took place on January 23rd at CBRE’s offices at 200 Park Avenue.
The meeting was attended by our 20 person committee and included a guest appearance by Former Chairman Vince Terranova.
We will be kicking off the year with our Spring Cocktail Party in March to be organized by Melissa Brause and Nicole Meyer. The
Committee is planning a number of new events for 2006, the first of which will be Casino Night in April to benefit a designated
charity. Alex Bernstein and Paul Walker will be spearheading the effort. Continuing on the charitable front, YM/WREA will be
holding a “Feed the Kids” canned food drive in partnership with City Harvest from May 14th (Mother’s Day) to June 18th (Father’s
Day) and we will also hold our YM/WREA Scholarship Competition in May. We are continuing our commitment to Habitat for
Humanity this summer and we will be adding a new event to the roster in the form of a kayaking trip for in August. Our members’
Golf Outing is scheduled for July 31st at Old Oaks.
The Fall and Winter will be the time for YM/WREA's Central Park Clean Up (September), the Fall Cocktail Party (October),
the Blood Drive (November) and our annual Coat Drive in conjunction with New York Cares (December). We are also looking into
securing a block of Yankee tickets for a YM/WREA attended baseball game and the implementation of a mentoring program to aid
college students interested in working in the industry.
We are looking forward to tremendous membership participation in the events and encourage your feedback and suggestions. We
feel certain that 2006 will be an enjoyable and successful year for YM/WREA and our members.

SECRETARY’S REPORT
- Bill Montana
The YM/WREA is strong with a current roster of about 400 active members.
The Board of Governors wants to give you every opportunity to capitalize on your
membership by notifying you of all of our luncheons and events. If your contact
information has changed in any way (new firm, new address, new email address,
etc.) please let me know by sending your full and current contact information. I can
be reached via email at [email protected] or by sending a letter to:
William Montana, Studley, Inc., 300 Park Avenue, 3rd floor, New York, NY 10022.
Guest speaker, at
the November 8th
luncheon, Roger
Silverstein
Going forward, we would like to make it easier for members to get to know each
other better by posting member's photographs on the YM/WREA website next to
each member's contact information. This initiative is completely voluntary. For
anyone wishing to participate, please email me a recent digital photograph of
yourself at the above email address. If you do not have a digital photograph,
please contact me and we will help you make arrangements. Thank you in
advance for your cooperation on this initiative.
Sherri P. Koeppel Memorial Blood Drive
On Tuesday, October 18, 2005, a group of devoted YM/WREA’ers headed
over to the Lincoln Building to donate blood at the annual Sherri P. Koeppel
Memorial Blood Drive. Many thanks to John Sinon, who organized the event
and to W&H Properties for donating the space.
Begun in 1987, the blood drive is a special way to give back to our fellow New
Yorkers. New York City needs massive amounts of blood, particularly for
cancer patients. Blood going to cancer centers must be heavily screened
since cancer patients frequently have impaired immune systems. They are
dangerously short of blood and platelets and your donation can actually save
a life!
Mark Lauzon shows how it’s done!
A special thank you to the members who participated, including:

♥ Lex Heslin
♥ Vincent LaManna

WINTER COAT DRIVE
The YM/WREA 2005/2006 winter coat drive, in conjunction with New York
Cares, was a tremendous success. Tim Farrell and Angela Ortiz, on behalf of
YM/WREA, coordinated our organization’s 8th annual participation. They
assisted in arranging New York Cares drop off stands at some twenty buildings
throughout the city. Over 500 coats were collected.
Many thanks to the following members and firms for participation in the coat drive:
David Brause – Brause Realty – 4 buildings
Tim Farrell – JP Day Realty – 3 buildings
Todd Koren – Swig Equities – 6 buildings
Jennifer McKee – Silverstein Properties – 3 buildings
Vince Terranova – Bernstein Real Estate- 4 buildings
Great job Tim and Angela!

This year the governors are taking on many new responsibilities to help guide
the organization and increase our effectiveness.
Lex Heslin will be leading the Scholarship and Academic Outreach effort.
YM/WREA will begin a mentoring program to pair highly qualified college and
graduate real estate students with YM/WREA members. Additionally, we will
further promote our annual Student Essay Contest by deepening our relationship
with the schools and encouraging greater participation from the top real estate
programs, including New York University and Columbia University.
Meanwhile, David Green will be updating and revamping our website as well as
co-chairing the 2006 Golf Outing. Melissa Smith is busy helping to organize the
upcoming Former Chairmen’s Dinner, and is also responsible for YM/WREA
