CREMATION AT THE WOODLAWN CEMETERY
A Tradition of
Honoring Those
Who Choose
Cremation
Your Choice of Final
Resting Places
The first cremated remains were laid
to rest at Woodlawn in 1887. As the
practice became more popular, so
did the practice of creating custom,
personalized memorialization
options.
Today, Woodlawn offers a variety of
ways for any person to memorialize
his or her own life or the lives of
others in ways that reflect their
tastes and beliefs.
Methinks my body
is but the lees of
my better being.
HERMAN MELVILLE, came to rest at
The Woodlawn Cemetery in 1891
Woodlawn provides a distinctive selection of final
resting places where generations are connected,
history is preserved, and loved ones are remembered.
Looking Ahead
Woodlawn strives to meet and exceed the
needs of those who choose us as a final resting
place. We will continue to be an innovator of
cremation options, technology, availability, and
memorialization for your loved ones.
BROOKSIDE CREMATION GARDEN
This tranquil setting offers both in-ground and above-ground
placement. Spaces are blended into the landscape or are
nestled into rocks alongside a running brook. Niches tucked into
the walls of bridges spanning the brook are also available.
IN-GROUND BURIAL OF CREMATED REMAINS
Available in all our in-ground areas.
CREMATION MEMORIAL
A choice for discerning individuals or for entire families, these
memorials, built to personal specifications, have become
increasingly popular.
COMMUNAL SCATTERING
Remains are scattered in a communal receptacle known as an
ossuary. A bronze plaque placed on a memorial wall beside the
ossuary commemorates those who rest there.
MAUSOLEUM
Mausoleums are designed for memorialization, including niches
with granite, marble, or glass fronts. The glass option allows
loved ones to view both the urn and a display of personal
mementos.
