While crusading through musical boundaries, a global collective is
crossing Western borders with its first
album and will make two Teton stops
this week.
Global Noize is the “music without
borders” brainchild of keyboardist
Jason Miles and turntable vanguard
DJ Logic and features Ron Johnson
of KDTU, Bernie Worrell of Talking
Heads and P-Funk, Mike Clark of
the Headhunters, Jay Rodriguez of
Groove Collective and Indo-American
rock sensation Falu.
The collective’s debut release of original tracks featured guest artists like
Meshell Ndegeocello, Vernon Reid, Billy
Martin of Medeski, Martin and Wood,
and John Popper of Blues Traveler.
“[We all] have such varied backgrounds and influences, but when we
get on that stage the only common language we speak is music,” Falu said.
After releasing its debut album
in April, the group’s Western swing
began by opening for Widespread
Panic at the Aspen Jazz Festival on
Aug. 28 and has since moved to a new
place nearly every day.
On Thursday, Global Noize plays
the Knotty Pine in Victor, Idaho; tickets cost $20 in advance or $25 at the
door. The Mangy Moose show follows
Friday night with tickets priced at
$20 ($22 on Friday).

music. I learn a little bit about funk
and jazz. They learn about Indian
classical,” Falu said. “It’s such an
interesting dialogue we’ve started.”
She released her self-titled debut
album to a sold-out crowd at the New
York City’s Canal Room in August
2007.
Falu finds the road fertile grounds
for songwriting. On this tour, she
hopes to write four or five songs toward
her second solo album. “I’m very free
when I travel,” especially when surrounded by stunning settings like
Idaho and Colorado, she said. “When
you are in such a beautiful mood, you
can write better.”
