CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE
Greater road safety
awareness begins with
every single individual,
whether he or she is
willing to embrace and
accept legislations, rules
and regulations
Road safety in Malaysia will kick into a
higher gear in 2013 to address the alarming
increase in the number of road accident
fatalities and injuries despite an extensive
suite of national campaigns and initiatives
that have been undertaken.
As a caring and responsible motoring
organization, the Automobile Association
of Malaysia (AAM) is compelled to assess
the effectiveness of its own campaigns and
we have established a special road safety task
force to look into a more comprehensive and
high impact programmes. Our programmes
will complement further efforts that will be
undertaken at the national level as well as in
support of other programmes initiated by the
private or corporate sectors and other nongovernmental organizations.
Road accident fatalities and injuries is a
serious epidemic that needs to be addressed
aggressively using a multi-prong approach.
It not only involves inculcating greater road
safety awareness, but in educating the young
who will become future road users, the
implementation of strict enforcement, the
introduction of better legislations, to seeking
the active participation of all stakeholders.
During the course of the year, the
AAM will implement a series of measures
which we hope will have the support of you
our esteemed members. Better road safety
3
awareness begins at home and we trust
that our members will also impart on the
importance of this to their family members,
especially children.
Just as we work hard to instill better
values in our children, road safety begins
at home. It is very much a discipline, a
habit and culture that you must introduce
and make the young understand as well as
appreciate. While it remains a challenging
ongoing task to instill good road safety
awareness and behavior in adult road
users, children are easier to mould and we
believe that by also tackling this important
age group, they will grow up to contribute
towards the creation of a new generation of
more responsible and caring road users.
More immediate programmes will
involve the distribution of helmets to
motorcyclists as the majority of fatalities
involving motorcyclists and pillion riders
result from severe injuries to the head. The
AAM task force is now trying to determine
what would be the most effective manner to
execute this and monitor its effectiveness.
More importantly however, is how do we
underline a clear message that safety on twowheels is imperative.
As our esteemed member, each and
every one of you is also our ambassador of
road safety. Working together ladies and
gentlemen, we can truly make an impactful
difference and in the long-term reduce the
number of casualties and losses to road
accidents.

ROAD SAFETY
ROAD REFLECTORS NOT APPRECIATED
Most drivers usually don’t value
the precaution of road reflectors
imbedded in roads, which has been
one of the major causes of road
accidents especially during stormy
weather, officers at the Rwanda National
Police have said.
The reflective solar powered road
studs rely on lighting from the headlight
beams of the approaching vehicle and
become effective to a distance of up to 90
meters.
The road lighting facilities termed as
‘cat’s eyes’ light up the motorway lanes
of Kigali streets but many drivers ignore
their usage.
The solar-powered studs’ brightness
is boosted by their own internal batteries
which are topped up by sunshine and
most daylight conditions.
“I usually see the reflective lighting
equipment
on the road
but
I haven’t clearly
observed
their importance, I just drive over them,”
said Marick Sibomana, 37, a taxi driver.
About 4000 solar-powered devices
have been installed along the 220
kilometre motorway within the city,
according to Kigali City authorities.
Jean Marie Vianney Ndushabandi,
the spokesperson of the Rwanda National
Police traffic and road safety, says that
the devices were introduced as one of the
measures to curb down road accidents.
“Drivers should know that, the solar
powered road reflectors are not for
decoration but to help them get
clear vision of the lane they are
taking especially at night or during fog
and rainy weather,” he noted.
He cautioned drivers against driving
over and destroying them, which he said
is a major traffic offence.
“The devices provide greater lighting
of the lanes and contribute to road
safety, especially at night. I think by now
drivers should already have noticed the
difference,” he said.
Some of the solar powered studs are
placed in the middle of the road between
lanes, others on the edge of the road to
differentiate between motorist highways
and that of pedestrians.
Ndushabandi stated that plans were
underway to mark the highways with
road reflecting devices
JAIPUR ACCIDENT VICTIM IGNORED BY PASSERS-BY
In Jaipur, India, none of the passers-by cared to stop and help the
distraught man who was shouting for help on a busy road. The
victim’s family, including his wife and months old daughter laid
dead on the road and surprisingly none of the vehicles halted to help
them.
The family of four was on a two-wheeler which collided with a
speeding truck in the Ghaat Ki Guni tunnel. The road is meant to
be off-limits for two wheelers.
The whole incident was captured by security camera as the
worried man desperately asked for help. The helpless man finally
could do nothing but sit on the road lamenting with his son.
Reportedly, Kanhaiya Lal Raiger of Thikariyawas, was going to
his in-laws with his wife Guddi, eight months old daughter Arushi
and son Tanish. Their bike ran into a truck and Guddi and Arushi
died on spot. The truck sped off and the driver has since absconded.
The National Commission for Women in its statement claims
that the woman could have been saved if people watching the
incident had taken a timely action.
Mamta Sharma, Chairperson, National Commission for Women
said, “People in the CCTV control room didn’t inform the police.
There was a delay of one and a half hours. If she had been given
medical attention on time she would have been saved”.

ROAD SAFETY
REDUCING
HORSE-CAR
ACCIDENTS
Motor vehicles and horses both need to
use our roads, but the result can often be
disastrous. Such is the situation in the
United Kingdom.
“As a horse rider you are hard pressed
to beat the beauty of hacking out down our
wonderful country lanes until, that is, you
meet a driver who is on a mission to get
from A to B in as quick a time as possible,”
said WMN Equestrian Editor Annabel
Groom who called for more tolerance from
drivers and riders.
With almost 10% of reported incidents
last year resulting in a horse fatality and
7% causing serious injury to the rider, road
safety organisation GEM Motoring Assist
and The British Horse Society (BHS) have
joined forces to create a Horse Rider Safety
leaflet for riders and drivers.
The leaflet features advice from the
view point of both the horse rider and the
driver. For horse riders, the leaflet includes
issues such as hand signals and the
importance of fluorescent leg wraps for the
most visible parts of a horse. For motorists,
the leaflet advises on appropriate speed, the
nature of horses as ‘flight’ animals, and the
dangers of sudden movement and noise.
Sheila Hardy, senior executive safety
at the BHS, says: “It is very easy to
blame other road users for accidents or
misunderstandings on the road. If we have
a greater understanding of the needs and
concerns of others it can only serve to make
everyone safer on the roads.”
Amazingly, there is currently no
requirement for an equestrian-related road
accident to be recorded anywhere, unless
there is human injury that requires hospital
treatment direct from the scene of the
accident. A horse can be killed or a vehicle
written off and the accident may not be
recorded as a horse incident anywhere.
The BHS, which has been collecting
statistics on road accidents involving ridden
or driven horses for many years, recognised
that the old system was paper based and
was perhaps unlikely to reach those who
were not members of the BHS. Its members
were of the belief
that the number
of horse- related
accidents were hugely
under-reported
and so developed
and launched their
dedicated equestrian
accident reporting
website (www.
horseaccidents.org.
uk) in November
2010. The aim of
this site is to help
to build an accurate
5
picture of the safety issues equestrians face,
supported by statistics.
A total of 521 incidents have been
reported since 2010 – 229 in 2011, 16 of
which were horse fatalities and eight rider
fatalities. In 2012 the 170 road incidents
reported included 13 horse fatalities and
two rider deaths. This year so far there
have been two horse deaths.
A change of attitude and some simple
precautionary measures however, might
prevent horse riders from becoming just
another statistic. Until recently it’s not been
‘cool’ to be seen in hi-viz clothing, but by
wearing it when you ride out, horse riders
can give drivers up to three seconds more
time to see them.
ROAD SAFETY
FORMER Hey
Dad! star and
traffic offender Ben
Oxenbould has been
dumped as the voice
of driver awareness
campaigns and
will no longer be
used on road safety
announcements in
any capacity.
The move
followed yesterday’s
exclusive report
in The Daily
Telegraph revealing
the 44-year-old,
whose licence has
been suspended a
dozen times since
1991, was the voice
of both NSW and
Queensland holiday
road safety ads.
A spokesman for
the NSW Transport
Management
Centre said the
department was
“disappointed”
Oxenbould’s poor
driving record had
AUSSIES DUMP ROAD SAFETY VOICE-OVER
PERSONALITY FOR BAD ROAD BEHAVIOUR
detracted from the road safety message
over Easter.
“It’s safe to say Mr Oxenbould will
not be used again for voiceovers or in any
other capacity for road safety,” Deputy
Director-General Tony Braxton-Smith
said.
“The minister has asked us to review
internal processes.”
Mr Braxton-Smith said measures
were currently in place to use police
checks to screen individuals who were
an “advocate or an ambassador”, but not
voiceovers.
When questioned at home, Oxenbould
exploded, defending his driving history.
“You need to go away and do your
research,” he said.
Oxenbould, 44, first received a driver’s
licence in January 1991.
Since then his right to drive has been
suspended a dozen times, mostly for
failing to pay parking fines.
He was also fined for at least 11 minor
speeding offences, including making an
unlawful U-turn, not keeping left and
driving an unregistered vehicle.
The Ingleside resident gave a false
report to police, claiming to be his
brother, when pulled over for driving an
unregistered vehicle in January this year.
He told police he had left his licence at
home.
Oxenbould later admitted his
deception, producing the licence. Checks
revealed he’d been suspended for more
6
than three months after failing to pay
outstanding fines.
Looking at his seven-page traffic
record during a court case in March over
the incident, magistrate Alan Railton said
the habitual fine-dodger had been “good
to the state” over the years: “You’re a
terrible driver, aren’t you?”
Oxenbould replied: “Terrible parker,
your honour.”
Mr Railton told Oxenbould his
“attention towards your responsibilities is
not what it should be” before halving the
fine for driving an unregistered car and
dismissing the charge of driving while
suspended.
He was fined $200 and ordered to pay
court costs of $83.
ROAD SAFETY
ISRAELIS MOST ROAD
SAFETY CONSCIOUS
Israeli drivers are more concerned about
road safety than any other drivers in
Europe, a major new study found, and
they rank that worry above concerns
over crime, pollution, unemployment and
health care.
Yet on the basis of the Israeli drivers’
answers in the survey, they have the
second safest driving style in Europe,
bettered only by Irish drivers. Relatively
large numbers of Israeli respondents
insisted that they do not drive through
yellow lights, do not drive too close to
the car in front, and do not use their
mobile phones while driving. By their
own admission when answering those
questions, Cypriot and Greek drivers
have the most risky driving styles, the
survey indicated.
The major study was carried out by
the European Union-funded SARTRE
project. SARTRE is an acronym for
Social Attitudes to Road Traffic Risk in
Europe, a series of studies dating back to
1991. In Israel, the pollsters questioned
855 people in face-to-face interviews
75% of Israeli
respondents
pronounced
themselves
“very
concerned”
85% of
Israeli
respondents
saying
they had
not received
a ticket and
did not know
anyone who had
for dangerous
driving
conducted in Hebrew, Arabic and
Russian, in December 2010 and January
2011.
More than 75% of Israeli respondents
pronounced themselves “very concerned”
about road safety — the highest
proportion in the study. At the same
7
time, Israeli came lowest in the survey
when comparing the number of drivers
who said that they drove through yellow
traffic lights. It ranked second from
bottom (after Ireland) when drivers
were asked whether they drove too close
to the car in front. And it ranked third
from bottom (after Hungary and the
Netherlands) when drivers were asked
if they made mobile-phone calls while
driving.
The survey also found 85% of Israeli
respondents saying they had not received
a ticket and did not know anyone who
had for dangerous driving. While almost
80% said they had not been breathalyzed
in the previous three years, 45%
acknowledged that they had driven after
drinking.
The survey findings asserts the fact
that Israel was now one of the 10 safest
countries worldwide to drive in. The
number of people killed in road accidents
in Israel in 2012 was the lowest annual
figure in 50 years, despite the huge
increase in the number of cars in the
country.

NASIM LAUNCHES THE HIGHLY
ACCLAIMED ALL
NEW PEUGEOT 208
Nasim Sdn Bhd, the official distributor
for the Peugeot brand in Malaysia, today
launched the multiple-award winning and
highly-acclaimed All New Peugeot 208.
Since December 2012, the 208 has
been Europe’s best-selling B-segment car
for three consecutive months. In February
2013, Peugeot rolled out the 300,000th
unit of the new 208 from its plant in
Poissy, France.
The stylish and sporty 208 is the first
new model launched by Nasim in 2013
and will play a pivotal role in what is set
to be another record-breaking year for
Peugeot in Malaysia.
“We have set a sales target of 200
units a month for the new 208, which
has won multiple awards in Europe.
With ever-changing expectations in
the market, the 208 was designed to
exceed all expectations and appeal to a
wide demographic audience,” said Dato’
Samson Anand George, COO of Nasim.
He said the 208 will contribute
significantly to Nasim’s sales target of
8,000 units in 2013, which will represent
a 30% increase from 2012.
The 208 marks a generational
leap from its predecessors with a
completely re-generated architecture,

NEWS
style, ergonomics and driving pleasure.
Available as a five-door or three-door
variant, the new 208’s design evokes
agility, modernism and refinement.
The exterior of the 208 is
characterised by its signature LED
daytime running lights and a floating
grille to evoke a modern and agile
appearance that is in line with Peugeot’s
new design language. The rear LED
boomerangshaped
lighting
blends into the
fluid lines of the body
creating a harmonious appearance.
The sporty appearance of the exterior
is further accentuated by its 16-inch twotone Helium alloy rims (on the five-door
variant) or17-inch two-tone Oxygen alloy
rims (on the three-door variant).
The structure of the new 208 has
been engineered to deliver outstanding
levels of passive and active safety while
keeping the overall weight of the vehicle
low. This has been made possible with the
use of an aluminium front beam absorber,
strengthened front sub frame, laser
welding of the roof and extensive use of
Very High Strength Steel and Ultra High
Strength Steel panels.
The 208 comes standard with six
airbags and an Electronic Stability
Program (ESP) featuring ABS, EBD,
EBA, DSC and ASR. Other safety
features include Hill
Start Assist, two
ISOFIX
points
at the rear for child
seats and all round one-touch
anti-pinch power windows
with electric child-safety
door locks.
As a result, the
new 208 achieved a full
five-star rating from EURO
NCAP under the new and more
demanding regulations that were
introduced in 2012.
The new 208
also leads in terms
of ECO design with
the integration
of 25% “green
materials” out of the
170kg of polymers
(excluding rubber)
used on the car. In
fact, the new 208’s
rear bumper is
entirely recycled,
which is a world’s
first.
Other parts
that were made from recycled parts
include the radiator frame, fan, wheel
arch interior, soundproofing, boot mat,
steering wheel, engine cover and air filter.
Inside, the new 208 breaks new
ground offering features normally found
on larger luxury cars.
The overall interior of the 208 is
characterised by high quality interior
trim with soft touch plastics accentuated
by touches of piano black and satin
chrome finishing. The five-door variant
comes with high quality semi-bucket
Moonlight seats while the three-door
variant features high quality semi-bucket

Sahara leather and fabric combination
seats.
The overall interior ambiance of the
208 is characterised by white lighting,
which in turn gives the interior a very
sophisticated finish.
The overall interior has been
redesigned with specific emphasis on
improving interior ergonomics, space and
comfort. As a result, with a wheelbase of
2,538 mm, the overall interior has been
optimised to offer rear passengers more
space and knee room while boot space is
311-litres.
A key highlight inside the 208 is
its award-winning 7-inch HD colour
interactive touch screen which provides
easy access to various functions
such as the radio, music files via the
USB connection as well as Bluetooth
connectivity for hands-free cellular
functionality or audio streaming.
The 7-inch HD colour interactive
touch screen also incorporates a highperformance audio system with Arkamys
3D sound that is connected to six speakers
to fully exploit the excellent interior
acoustics of the 208. In addition, its audio
system can be easily connected to an
iPhone, iPod or an Android device. It also
displays a rear parking aid with audio
visual assistance, key settings of the car
such as lighting and security features as
well as the trip computer information.
The 208’s 7-inch HD colour
touchscreen was awarded Comfort
Innovation of The Year at the Interiors
Expo 2012 in Germany.
Another key feature of the 208’s
interior is its innovative and stylish
floating instrument panel with a colour
LCD screen and a compact leather
steering wheel that comes with audio
and telephony controls. In particular, the
10
NEW CAR
colour
LCD
screen
displays vital
information such as
the vehicle’s speed, trip
computer and audio information.
A first in the B-segment is the
inclusion of a digital dual zone auto airconditioning system for both the five and
three-door variant. The ambience in the
three-door variant is further enhanced
with a panoramic glass roof with mood
lighting that outlines the glass roof at
night.
Both variants of the new 208 are
equipped with a 1.6-litre VTi engine that
produces 122 PS and 160 Nm of torque.
In fact, 140 Nm of torque is available
from as low as 2,000 rpm making the
208 a responsive and fun car to drive.
Additionally, the engine is matched to an
auto adaptive gearbox featuring Tiptronic
and Sport mode functionality.
The new 208 features Peugeot’s
legendary trademark road-holding
qualities by incorporating MacPherson
struts
with an
antiroll bar front
suspension and a trailing-arm with
deformable cross-member axle at the
rear.
The architecture of the front
suspension, in particular, has been
developed to improve the caster angle
contributing to better directional stability,
steering accuracy and feel. The springs
and damper settings in the car have
also been finely tuned to offer enhanced
driving dynamics.
The fuel efficiency of the 208 on a
mixed cycle is rated at 6.7-litres per 100
km.
Among the awards won by the 208
include the ‘Best Supermini 2012’ by
UK’s Auto Express New Car Awards,
‘European Car Of The Year 2013’ by
Italy’s Auto Europa, ‘Best Car Of The
Year 2013’ in Spain, ‘Continental Irish

Silver. The price of the 208 five-door
variant is RM85,888 while the threedoor variant is priced at RM95,888. Both
prices are on-the-road with insurance.

Interest has been increasing and
not only in Triumph’s range of street
and supersports bikes, but also in the
adventure/touring segment and the
many limited modern classic variants it
offers, rising in tandem with Malaysia’s
growing motorcycling community. This
is also backed by Triumph’s awardwinning track record and the many
accolades its range of motorcycles have
and continues to receive worldwide.
Another pivotal success factor
is that all Triumph motorcycles are
backed by a two-year unlimited mileage
warranty underlining not only the
brand’s confidence but its commitment
to customers in terms of after sales
service.
Razak said Fast Bikes Sdn Bhd
is also due to open the first Triumph

will is strategically located in Petaling
Jaya in the second quarter of 2013. The

office is currently in Kampung Pandan,
Kuala Lumpur.

frame and revised geometry for razor
sharp handling, agility and precision. Not
only is the chassis robust and hard edged,
it is advanced, and engineered to optimise

This as a package, adds to greater razor
sharp dynamic handling in a confidence
inspiring package weighing just 183kg,
fully fuelled and ready to ride, and a
substantial 6kg lighter than the outgoing

complemented by KYB suspension via
41mm upside down forks, while stopping
power is provided by a confidence
inspiring dual 310mm floating disc front
brake set up, with Nissin two-piston
sliding calipers. The bike also offers
optional anti-lock braking system (ABS)
which is fully switchable.
Collecting numerous accolades since
it was first launched in 2007 and is

DAYTONA 675
Triumph’s Daytona 675 has set new
class performance standards in the
supersport class with its three-cylinder,
675cc engine format, consistently
topping comparison tests, and winning
awards around the world since it was
launched in 2006. The Daytona also
has the distinction of outperforming
higher specification superbikes in the
prestigious international Masterbikes
shootout, winning this toughest and most
comprehensive test of all sports bikes two
years in succession.
The all-new, sharper, and leaner
looking Daytona 675 features a brand
new engine, new frame, fresh and
sophisticated new bodywork and a host
of other changes built on everything
Triumph has learned from the
enormously successful outgoing model. A
15
few tweaks and modifications allows the
2013 Daytona to raise the bar yet again.
The Daytona 675 is 1.5kg lighter
than the old model, has more power, an
extended rev range, greater precision,
feel, and increased agility. It’s faster on
the track, better on the road and even
more satisfying to own.
At the heart of the new Daytona
is its new engine, which brings more
NOTICEBOARD
performance and a subtly new character
too. The key change is the wider bore and
shorter stroke dimensions, allowing a
higher 14,400rpm rev limit to gain more
power and a broader spread of usable
revs. Power is up 3PS to 128PS peaking
earlier at 12,600rpm and revving on for
longer with a maximum torque that is
2Nm higher at 75Nm. New twin injectors
per cylinder on the intake side aids
the power and torque gains as well as
improving fuelling accuracy and efficiency
and for the first time, titanium valves are
fitted, helping the engine achieve higher
revs and allowing Triumph’s engineers
room to reshape them to improve gas flow.
The transmission features a new
slip-assist clutch to provide a lighter
lever action and help prevent rear wheel
hop under heavy braking. This is aided
by the engine management which opens
the throttle butterflies to reduce engine
braking.
The exhaust system is a clear change
as the compact and purposeful new
unit now sits beneath the engine rather
than beneath the rear seat. This is a
consequence of the mission by Triumph’s
engineers to centralise the bike’s mass
as much as possible and move the weight
forward, key factors in making the new
Daytona even more agile and yet more
stable at speed too. The frame uses fewer
sections in its construction for a cleaner,
stronger design and has sharper geometry
and a shorter wheelbase to make full
use of the revised mass distribution. The
rear sub-frame, constructed from high
pressure die cast aluminium, not only
looks fantastic but contributes to the slim
sharp design at the rear of the bike.
Triumph engineers also altered
the ergonomics slightly, with a 10mm
reduction in seat height and a little less
weight placed on the wrists, allowing the
riding position to have the best control at
high speed and on the track.
The Daytona also features a new,
innovative intake duct, suspension which
includes the latest fixed cartridge forks
from KYB (formerly Kayaba) and revised
rear shock, new light-weight wheels,
and new switchable ABS system which
weighs just 1.5kg that incorporates a late
intervention track setting which allows
rear wheel drift.
The Daytona 675 also comes with twoyear unlimited mileage.

Triumph’s
flagship and
first foray into the luxury touring
motorcycle segment.
Packed with a whole host of
technology features, much of which come
as standard, the Trophy is powered by
a shaft driven 1,215cc three cylinder
engine, identical to the one powering
the Tiger Explorer XC, delivering an
impressive 134PS at 8,900 revs and
120Nm of torque at 6,450rpm, for smooth
effortless power whenever required.
A torsional damping system is used
to transfer power from the gearbox to the
shaft drive through a sprung bevel gear.
In addition to this a metalastic shaft drive
is used which allows a certain amount
of compliance in the shaft assembly.
These combined features help to provide
a refined drivetrain and overall chassis
performance which ensures the power is
delivered in a smooth and controllable
manner.
The top of the range Trophy SE
which is available locally, is fitted
with adjustable electronic suspension
from WP, which is operated via an
ergonomically designed switch cube.

NEW CAR
BMW M3 E46 V8 OF THE
GETRAG RACING TEAM
The secret of the success of the M3 E46
V8 from the GETRAG racing team around
Michael Bäder is the combination of a
compact and light body, here the body of
the BMW M3 E46 is the best basis for a
consequent lightweight concept, and a
powerful engine like the 4.0l V8 S65 from
the current BMW M3. This kind of concept
has a long tradition at the G-POWER
manufactory, as well. Amongst other cars
G-POWER has already implanted the 5.0l
V10 S85 engine into the M3 E46, just like
a 4.0l V8 S65 engine into
the 1M Coupé. The package
of the race car is completed
with a racing DME and a
racing ABS form BOSCH.
In order to achieve a
power output of approx. 650
hp that would make the M3
E46 competitive in these
series, the GETRAG racing
team around Michael Bäder
is using a supercharger
system from G-POWER
and so is following in the
footsteps of the successful
ALPINA B6 GT3 race car.
The ALPINA B6 GT3 has
been booked, thanks to the
use of an ASA supercharger
just like at the G-POWER
supercharger system, for
top positions already in its
debut year at the ADAC
GT Masters championship,
the VLN Endurance
Racing Championship,
the 24h Race at the
Nürburgring and the FIA GT3 European
Championship.
Powered like that, the only
supercharged car in the starting grid has
crossed the finish line in first place in
its class at the season opening. All in all
a 4th place has been achieved against a
47 participants strong top-class starting
grid, including cars like the Porsche
GT2, Porsche GT3 RS, Lamborghini
Gallardo FL2, Dodge Viper GTS-R and the
Mercedes SLS AMG GT3. The outstanding
performance of the M3 E46 V8 has been

underpinned furthermore by a 2. place in
its class in the first run (again all in all

The use of the G-POWER
supercharger system in extreme
racing conditions impressively shows
the performance and more over the
durability of the combination G-POWER
supercharger and BMW M-Engine.
These characteristics are based on the
exclusive use of components meeting
OEM standards, being a basic element
of the G-POWER philosophy and one
of the secrets for the extraordinary
quality, reliability and performance of the
G-POWER products.
For its mission in the G-POWER M3
supercharger systems, the way G-POWER
is offering them for street legal BMW
M3s, the ASA T1-523 has been literally
been tailor-made, to provide the giant
need for fresh air of the up to 8.500 rpm
revving 4.0 litre V8 engine. But the ASA
supercharger, flanged to the engine using
high-strength mount, is not the only
high-tech component of the G-POWER
M3 supercharger system. The engineers
did not spare any cost or efforts during
the development of this supercharger
system. Amongst others they even did a
sophisticated, computer aided simulation
which analyses the conditions of the airducting engine parts.
The defined goal of this extensive
research is to improve the efficiency of
the G-POWER supercharger system to
the best possible performance. And the
result proofs us right. The G-POWER
supercharger system is capable of
reducing the specific fuel consumption of
the engine. This shows that we do not only
care about performance but are concerned
of the sensitive use of restricted resources
like fuel, as well.
A further key figure, next to the
supercharger, in the G-POWER
supercharger system is the complete
aluminium cast, large volume air box
that is responsible for the perfect throttle
response and optimal torque curve. The
G-POWER M3 supercharger system
is completed by the large air-to-air
intercooler that is located in the vehicles
front, which cools the boost temperature
down to an output optimal level under all
circumstances.
G-POWER is offering altogether
three different performance levels of its
supercharger system for the BMW M3,
from 520 hp, 580 hp and 610 hp. The
prices start from 8.000,00 Euro for the
M3 AK I “Sporty Drive” TU supercharger
system plus installation.
G-POWER:
Since the company’s founding in 1983, it
has focused solely on the tuning of BMW
cars and the production of exclusive,
handcrafted vehicles. In 2008, G-POWER
was integrated into Group ASA, a year in
19
which both brands celebrated their 25th
anniversary. G-POWER is now one of the
few globally active and highly reputable
suppliers of exclusive cars. In cooperation
with development partner ASA,
G-POWER has developed unique versions
of BMW’s most important models, and
the world’s most powerful versions of
each, which clearly sets us apart from our
competitors. G-POWER holds five world
records:
- Fastest BMW sedan with 730hp
G-POWER M5 HURRICANE and a
top speed of 360 km/h
- Fastest LPG-powered car with the
660hp G-POWER M5 HURRCANE
GS and a top speed of 333 km/h
- Fastest Sedan with the 750hp
G-POWER M5 HURRICANE RS on
the ATP high-speed oval in Papenburg
with a measured top speed of 367.4
km/h. G-POWER exceeded its own
record with the 800hp G-POWER M5
HURRICANE RR with a top speed of
372 km/h
- Fastest 4-seater coupe with the 750 hp
G-POWER M6 HURRCANE CS and a

MOTORSPORTS
STRONG TOP TEN FINISH AND
ROOKIE PODIUM IN
MONZA FOR JAZEMAN JAAFAR
Jazeman Jaafar began his Formula Renault 3.5 Series (FR3.5)
campaign with a strong opening round at the Monza circuit,
finishing third in the Rookie class and an impressive seventh
overall in the first race of the season. His fortunes were reversed
in the second race, after being punted from behind by Zoel
Amberg which punctured a rear tyre and forced him to pull off
track and retire.
Jazeman’s weekend began with two test sessions at the
Monza track and he made good use of the time to acclimatise
himself to the circuit and develop the car set up for the race
weekend. He posted third quickest lap in the first session and
was 14th fastest in the second session.
The qualifying session for race one was held in wet conditions
and all the drivers opted for the wet weather tyres to start the
session. As the track dried many teams, including Carlin, moved
to the dry tyre, but were unable to improve on their times. A solid
effort from Jazeman put him 11th on the grid for the first race,
the fourth quickest rookie in the field.
The PETRONAS Talent Programme driver made a good
start for the first race and slotted into 10th place at the end of
the first lap. He then overtook Andre Negrao for ninth position,
then benefited from drivers ahead making mistakes to lie fifth
by half distance. He was caught in the thick of the action as the
laps counted down, attacking Oliver Webb ahead of him, whilst
20
MOTORSPORTS
also defending hard from a chasing Nigel
Melker. Jazeman resisted the challenge
until he started to struggle with his tyres
which let Melker through and then Arthur
Pic in the closing stages. He crossed the
line in a highly creditable seventh place
for his first FR3.5 race.
The qualifying session for the second
race was again held in wet conditions
and Jazeman finished 18th fastest, to
line up in this position for the second
race. He made a brilliant start, making
up six places in the first lap to lie in 12th
position, dropping back to 13th after a
bold move by Mihai Marinescu. But on lap
6 Jazeman was hit from behind by Zoel
Amberg which punctured his right rear
tyre so he was unable to continue and had
to pull off the track and retire the car.
Jazeman said of his weekend, “The
first race was good and I enjoyed being
able to battle with the cars around me,
running at a good pace and experiencing
running with a full grid of cars in anger
for the first time. Scoring points on my
first outing was my goal and I achieved
this, so it was a good start.
“My high didn’t last long though as
I was on the receiving end of another
driver’s mistake and ended up losing out
big time. These things happen in racing,
but I’m obviously disappointed as I’m
there to race and go the distance. I’d made
a really good start as well, so I thought I
could get in the points again, but sadly it
wasn’t the case. I just have to quickly put
it behind me and move on. On a positive
note, I’m tenth in the championship and
fourth in the rookie standings. I just can’t
wait to be back out again racing, which
will be at the end of the month in Spain.”
Jazeman will resume his FR3.5
racing programme on 27/28th April with
the second event of the nine round series
taking place at Motorland Aragon in
Spain.
