Pierce and his three-man crew offer a
wide variety of services, including service and repair on all makes and models,
replacement of all types of heating and
cooling systems and new home installation. The fully licensed and insured
business is qualified for residential and
commercial operations.
In these difficult economic times,
more efficient heating and cooling
systems can help the individual home
owner or business cut costs. Pierce
installs energy efficient furnaces, air
conditioners, heat pumps and boilers.
They also install geothermal (ground
source) heat pumps, shop heaters and
radiant floor heaters. They specialize in
installing Trane and Heil equipment.
Pierce Heating and Cooling operates
from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through
Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to noon on
Friday. Getting an idea of cost is easy
with Pierce, which offers free estimates.
In addition to quality workmanship
and customer service, Pierce Heating
and Cooling requires thorough clean-up
at its job sites.
“We clean up after the job is complete,” Brandon Pierce said. “All our
employees are known for being honest
and very respectful. None of the em-
ployees smoke or chew tobacco, so you
don’t have to worry about the stains or
smell after the job is complete.”
Keith Peuker, who has worked in
Atchison in the past, is a member of
Pierce’s team. Like the rest of the
technicians, he has a college degree in
HVAC.

Prizewinner
Congratulations to Jody Antes, the
winner of the Chamber’s prize drawing at
the Atchison Home & Garden show this
weekend!
Wanted!!!
The Chamber is looking for a couple
of items. First, a van or car seat that could
be installed for added rear seating in the
RiverCity Coach.
Second, we are looking for door prizes
for the Farm City Banquet on March 16.

Farm-City Banquet
The Atchison Area Chamber of Commerce and its member businesses will
honor the farming community at the 33rd
annual Farm-City Banquet on March 16 at
the Atchison Heritage Conference Center.
Area merchants will showcase their
wares when booths open at 4:30 p.m. Dinner and a program will follow, featuring
activities, contests, live entertainment and
plenty of door prizes. The event is scheduled to run from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m.
This year’s organizers are also bringing
a pie-baking contest to the event, something they hope will draw interest from
home bakers and pie-lovers alike. The
contest is open to the public and the entry
fee is just $1 per pie.
Tickets to the event are available for
$10 at the Chamber, located at 200 S. 10th
Street.
Complimentary tickets are provided
for area farm families. Businesses and
individuals interested in purchasing tickets
to donate to the farming community can
contact the Chamber. A purchase of 75 or
more tickets includes program recognition
as a major sponsor.
Area merchants interested in the business expo can reserve a booth by contacting the Chamber. The cost of an 8x10
booth is $75 for Chamber members and
$100 for non-members. Electrical outlets
are available.

Visitor’s Center
For those members who display a brochure in the Visitor’s Center, please check

Legislative Coffees
Area residents will have two opportunities to discuss legislative issues with their
elected officials during a series of legislative
coffees in Atchison.
All legislators whose districts include all
or part of Atchison County have been invited
to attend the remaining meetings, scheduled
for March 7 and April 4. Each of the events
will begin at 9 a.m. at the Santa Fe Depot,
200 S. 10th St.
Coffee and donuts will be served at each
of the events, which are sponsored by AT&T.

Chamber gift certificates are available
in $5, $10, $25 and $50 denominations.
These gift certificates, which can be redeemed at nearly 100 Atchison area businesses, are a great way to do your difficult

LakeFest 2009 Gift Certificates
LakeFest 2009 gift certificates are now
available at the Chamber office, 200 S.
10th St. in Atchison.
The gift certificates, at a cost of $25,
can be purchased now, then redeemed for
tickets when they go on sale May 1 - July
16. Tickets will cost $30 on July 17.
Rodney Atkins, Little Big Town, and
Jack Ingram will perform at the concert,
which is part of the annual Amelia Earhart
Festival.

Knitting classes at Doodlebugs
Adult knitting classes are now forming at Doodlebugs
Children’s Books and Toys. Beginner classes will meet
on Thursdays, March 12, 19 & 26th from 6-7:30 p.m.
Students will learn the basics of knitting at a relaxed
pace — how to cast on, knit, purl and cast off. Materials needed: 2 skeins of worsted weight yarn and size 8
knitting needles for a scarf project. Intermediate classes
will meet Tuesdays, March 10, 17, & 24th from 6-7:30
p.m. Students will use their basic skills to complete a
project of their choice. Materials needed: pattern, yarn,
and needles to complete your chosen project. Cost for the
three-session class is $36 plus materials. Call or stop by

Cookbook Fund-raiser
The Atchison Child Care Association is selling cookbooks to raise funds to purchase a state-mandated school
bus.
The book is filled with more than 470 recipes, which
are contained within a three-ring hard-back binder. The
recipes have been collected from within our community
and as far away as Australia and our troops in Iraq.

Down Economy
Atchison Library and the Atchison County Economic
Development Board will sponsor a series of programs
aimed at helping citizens manage their finances during
difficult economic times. A light lunch will be provided

Nominations open for Business
Appreciation Month
Now more than ever, it’s time to thank
our Kansas businesses.
Kansas businesses continue to be the
foundation of our economy, our communities and our quality of life. And given
our nation’s current economic challenges,
Kansas businesses are more important
today than at any point in recent history.
Business Appreciation Month is our way
of thanking our proud Kansas businesses
for all they do to keep Kansas strong.
Now is your chance to honor businesses in your community by nominating them
for a 2009 Kansas Business Appreciation
Month Award. Nominations may be submitted on behalf of any Kansas business
that has positively impacted its community, its workforce or the Kansas economy.
The state’s top nominees will be invited to
the Kansas Cavalry Encampment event on
June 25, where Governor Kathleen Sebelius will name one of them the winner of
the Governor’s Award of Excellence.

NBC presents
Workers Wanted Wednesday
KSHB-TV, Kansas City’s NBC Action
News Station, has launched a new com-
munity service campaign aimed at helping
viewers find employment. Faced with a
weakening economy and thousands of layoffs, many metro residents are struggling
to make ends meet. So, NBC Action News
felt the need to help.
In November, NBC Action News
launched “Workers Wanted Wednesday.”
Each Wednesday during NBC Action News
Today and NBC Action News Midday,
viewers are encouraged to call a special
phone bank where they’re connected
with employment experts. Since Workers
Wanted Wednesday first launched, NBC
Action News has taken more than 7,500
phone calls, recorded over 73,000 views
on their website and has put more than 100
metro residents back to work. On February
2, 2009, KSHB-TV partnered with National
Career Fairs for the first Workers Wanted
Wednesday job fair, where nearly 1,300 job
seekers were connected with metro employers looking for workers. On Wednesday,
March 11, 2009, NBC Action News will
host another career fair from 11:00 a.m. to
3:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, 8787 Reeder
Road, in Overland Park, Kansas.
“With the huge response we have
received to our Workers Wanted Wednesday segment, it has obviously struck
a cord with our viewers. NBC Action
News is pleased to provide this important
assistance to our viewers during this tough
economic time,” said Craig Allison, Vice
President and General Manager of KSHBTV and KMCI-TV.
In addition to the phone bank, a career
fair and news segments, NBC Action News
has produced one live webcast and two live
web chats on www.nbcactionnews.com.
These on-line programs have reached more
than 2,000 job seekers.

Action News Today from 5-7a.m. and NBC
Action News Midday from 11 a.m. to noon.
