Our Story….
My name is Wayne Gant and I am the owner/founder of Great American Volleyball. Me, my children and my family and
friends have been greatly impacted by cancer. I lost my father and my wife within 2 years of each other. My father, David Allen
Gant, battled the disease for many years and lost to, what ultimately was, bone cancer in April of 2010. My wife and children’s
mother, Denise A. Gant, was taken from us on March 25th, 2012 from Pancreatic Cancer. She was just 31 years old and did not get to
be the mother she so wished to be to our daughters, Brianna (4) and Isabella (22 months). These unimaginable life events have
changed both mine and my family’s lives forever.
During the treatment process, we found ourselves in a situation that was not only traumatic, but confusing as well. In such a
chaotic time, we took comfort in knowing that there are people and foundations that provide meals, nursing assistance, gifts for my
children, monetary supplements, therapy for both the patient and family, wigs, clothing, hospital beds and so much more. The
outpouring of help to my family was both outstanding and honorable. Without these foundations and charities, our lives would have
been much harder than already presented. Now it’s my time, as a business owner, to give back to the organizations that our family
will forever be thankful to.
As a Jersey Shore resident, father, husband and local business owner, we are asking for your help in giving back to the
organizations that are right outside our front doors. We are hosting a beach volleyball tournament on August 9 & 10, 2014. All of the
proceeds will go to these foundations so that they can continue to make the lives of cancer patients and their families a little easier in
such a difficult time.
Tournament Info….
The D.A.G. tournament is our largest summer event and will feature:
- DJ Entertainment presented by A-1 Entertainment!
- a serving contest (win a DAG t-shirt, volleyballs, sunglasses, GAV products)
- bake sale
- Chinese Auction with an emcee
- a cornhole tournament on Sunday
- children’s activities (e.g. face painters, musical beach towels)
Chinese auction
We expect a turnout of approximately 500 players and thousands of family members, beachgoers, spectators.
Our center court is where the Men’s Open Final will take place and attracts a huge crowd as people pass on the
boardwalk. The Men’s Open Final is the most exciting match, as it features New Jersey’s best beach players. The final
will have an Emcee so that all spectators and passer-byers will be intrigued to watch.
