Welcome to Christmas in Newbury
Newbury continues to be a destination of choice for both retail and leisure and is now the must visit place for all your
Christmas requirements. Boasting many of the traditional high street names, combined with an array of independent shops
and retailers that gives Newbury its distinctive feel and atmosphere.
Newbury is now a ‘Purple Flag’ status town centre, with its enhanced leisure offering, ensuring it is a vibrant and safe place
to enjoy all your festive entertaining.
Newbury will have a very special visitor making his first appearance of the year on Saturday 28 November, as Father
Christmas brings his grotto to the Market Place. He will also be there on Sunday 29 November with his reindeer, before
leading the Christmas parade through the town to switch on the lights of our magnificent Christmas tree in the heart of the
town. Father Christmas will also be visiting Newbury on 4 - 6 December, Parkway and 12 & 13 December, Kennet Centre,
and then from 17 – 23 December in his Parkway Grotto.
Thursday 17 December is the next main date for your diary as late night shopping is back with festive entertainment, (look
out for the very special three wise men), and the very popular Choir of 1,000 Voices. The roads will be closed until 9pm
ensuring a car-free pedestrianised area, so you can enjoy the street entertainment and soak up the festive atmosphere.
Shoppers can also take advantage of FREE car parking (5pm – 9pm) on this evening. (Parkway, Kennet Centre and
Northbrook multi-storey car parks).
With its twinkling lights and festive windows, Newbury is sure to provide everything you need for the Christmas period. This
booklet contains all the main events and dates for your diary to ensure you and your family make the most of the holiday
season right here in Newbury this year.
Merry Christmas and best wishes for a happy and healthy New Year,

Festive fun in a safe & vibrant environment
Newbury has recently been re-confirmed as just that, for a second year
the Purple Flag scheme, an accredited programme that assesses how we
manage our town during the evening, managed by the Association of Town
and City Managers (ATCM), has awarded Newbury this prestigious status.
With Newbury’s growing reputation as a safe, vibrant and mixed use
centre and the increased number of leisure
destinations, comes greater responsibility to
ensure everybody is safe while socialising and
enjoying the festive period. Again, Newbury
is being pro-active with the recent launch
of the Safer Socialising scheme, and we are
very pleased to say a number of town centre
locations have already been accredited with
this - look out for the logo in licensed premises.
