Opening Ceremonies
There’s nothing like a piper! Special guests included Kirsty Duncan, Liberal MP Etobicoke North; Stephen Holyday, Toronto
Councillor Ward 3; Richard Hart, President Toronto Curling Association; John Epping, 2006 Canadian Mixed Curling Champion;
and Norm Oliver, President Weston Golf & Country Club. Kathryn Latimer sang “O Canada.”
Richard Hart, John Epping, Beth Woolnough and Norm Oliver took to the ice for the ceremonial first rock. And they were off!
Warming Up
All the teams got out to practise before Sunday night’s five first draw games.
(Clockwise) Yukon, skipped by Bob Smallwood, has two games today.
Saskatchewan third Ros Stewart and team started strong with a win against
PEI. Newfoundland and Labrador lead Lauren Wasylkiw and team faced
British Columbia. Manitoba skip Bob Sigurdson led his team to a victory over
Quebec in an exciting extra-end showdown.
(Not shown) Big ends were deciding factors in the other two games, Ontario
over Nunavut and Alberta over Northern Ontario.
Looking for food and drink? The bar is always open in the Pine Lounge. Visit the
Arnold Palmer Room (upstairs) weekdays from 8:30 am to 10 pm and weekends
from 7:30 am to 10 pm. In addition to the regular menu, you can choose from a
different Canadian-themed meal for each day of the event, posted daily.

87.5% of SKIPS are happy skipping
100% of THIRDS like being a vice (can you guess which 25% call themselves “Mates”?)
Only 57% of SECONDS prefer playing second; the rest would rather move up or down
89% of LEADS are happy playing lead; the rest are flexible!

It’s a Win/Win When You Help the
Weston Special Olympics Team
The Weston Special Olympics Competitive Curling
team is headed to compete at the Special Olympics
Canada Winter Games in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland, in March 2016. Five athletes have trained
hard to qualify: George Moody, Bill Moody, Mike
Mogford, Tony Erlich and Jamie MacDonald.
How can you help?
