It’s official, we have begun and we’re 4-0-0-1. It’s not the
World Series, it’s hockey – B-SENS hockey and it was worth
the long summer wait. The new faces are making us proud.
We, as the Booser Club, have a wonderful job ahead of us
cheering them on and making them feel like Binghamton
is their home away from home. Additions like Zach Smith,
Brendan Bell and Ryan Shannon are fitting right in with our
boys of last year. LET’S GO SENS!
The away schedule doesn’t allow for many bus trips, but
see our list at the Booster Club table at games and in our
newsletter. Our club provided a team meal right after the
home game on the 17th prior to boarding the team bus to
Philadelphia and we hope it helped with their third win.
Our first general meeting of the season was October 8 at
the Relief Pitcher and Assistant Coach Mike Busniuk was our
guest speaker. His information was a real promise of a good
year. Our next “meeting” will be the Meet the Players Dinner
on November 5 – let’s make this our biggest welcome ever!

volunteered at the event. Several members enjoyed the dinner
and sports auction afterward and Becky Severcool won the
50/50.
The event was a huge success for the Family Enrichment
Network, raising a total of $25,000 – the largest amount ever!
Please remember to mark Friday, November 7 on your
calendar. This will be our first 50/50 charity night of the
season. Proceeds that evening will go to the Binghamton High
School’s Thanksgiving Dinner. Each year the school offers a free
Thanksgiving dinner, open to the public. They are expecting
an even larger amount to attend this year’s dinner. The money
raised with our 50/50 on November 7 will be donated to them
to help absorb some of the cost of food and supplies for their
dinner.
Also, if anyone is interested in volunteering to help out at
the dinner, please let me know. Help will be needed for serving
meals, clean up and delivering meals to those who are unable to
get to the shcool for the meal.

Our first trip is scheduled for Saturday, November 15, to
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Cost: $40 per person and includes:
bus, driver tip and lower level ticket to the game. Tickets will be
ordered on Monday, November 3, so if you wish to go with us to
cheer on the team, please sign up by then. Time of departure is
4:30 PM from the Oakdale Mall.

Meetings
Our meetings are usually held on the first Wednesday of
each month. To ease everyone’s schedules as we come upon
the busy holiday season, we will not be having our usual
meeting in the month of November. We will be having our
annual Meet the Players party on Wednesday, November 5,
and hope that you will purchase tickets to attend as this will
be our November “meeting.”

A Conversation with “Buzzy”
On October 8, 2008, Mike “Buzzy” Busniuk stopped by
the monthly Booster Club meeting after a day of practice and
painting.
Buzzy led off the conversation by introducing himself as the
Assistant Coach for the B-Sens from Thunder Bay, Ontario,
about a 24 hour drive from here. This is his tenth year in
Binghamton. Buzzy laughed, saying that he was not in need of
anything this year. In years past, he has needed a couch or a
bed for his house, but this year…nothing.
Buzzy went on to tell us about the team: strong on forward
and weaker on defense (like most teams). He said we would be
depending on the goaltender. He noted that Elliott looks strong
and he is the goaltender of the future for Ottawa.
Buzzy said he, like many others, likes to see a good fight and
listed five “tough guys:” Yablonski, Joe Rullier – who has about
333 penalty minutes, Danny Bois, Matt Carkner, and Chaz
Johnson – he can hit, skate and drop the gloves.
The team has adequate defense this season. He is looking
forward to a good season. He says that every year.
Q: Can you shed some light on the information that is
circulating regarding A. Nikulin? There is information on
his blog that he is going back to Russia.
A: It is true that he wants to be traded. He heard the
comments that Brian Murray said regarding him not being
in Ottawa’s plan this year and that he is going to be sent to
Binghamton.
Nikulin has the opportunity to go back to Russia and make
big dollars. He is waiting to be traded. He wants to play in
the NHL. He will likely be showcased so that he can get
some exposure and possibly a trade can be entertained.
Buzzy spoke about Brent Flahr, Director of Hockey
Operations for Ottawa. He is working hard for the
organization and is trying to get us good players.
Q: Is Cody Bass here?
A: He is already here. Buzzy had a conversation with him that
morning at practice and says he knows he doesn’t want
to be in Bingo. Cody responded by saying, “I am playing
hockey, I’m good.”
Buzzy went on to speak about two other injuries. Geoff
Waugh is on crutches with a broken foot and Peter Regin is
suffering effects of a concussion.
Q: Is there going to be a change in the coaching system/
strategy this season?
A: That is dependent on the team we are playing. Could be
man-to-man or zone. Protect the post to net to face-off
circle.
Q: How many guys do we have in Elmira?
A: I think four guys – St. Croix was sent there today.
Q: Our biggest problem has been puck possession in the past.
A: How can you score if the other team has the puck. You saw
us throw the puck down deep and turn it over in the past,
you will likely see that continue to happen. That is the way
the kids are taught these days.
The guys are told to try to hold puck possession if they can
enter the zone. On odd man rushes, you will see us dump
the puck.
Q: Who is going to be the favorite in the Division?
A: Hershey is the odds on favorite. They have some good
players: A. Giroux and K. Aucion to name two.
Q: Are there any cuts remaining?
A: Three more cuts to make tomorrow and then we will be set.
Wrapping up, Buzzy thanks the Boosters for inviting him to
the meeting. He says he enjoys this every year. Oh, and make
sure the cookies are not late (for the bus).
