Determination of the STATIC MODULUS of ELASTICITY
The new AUTOMAX E-Modulus,
Power and Control Console which fully satisfies the
new EN under development
The Elastic Modulus is a fundamental parameter to verify the behavior of building structures under
load, above all in seismic areas and for tall buildings. This determination, which is more and more
requested by the engineers, is performed conforming various national Standards as DIN 1048/1, ASTM
C469, BS 1881:121, ISO 6784, UNI 6556 etc.
All these Standards have in common the basic determination but differ for the number of cycles, cycle
waves shape, accuracy verifications etc.
The CEN Committee is now developing a new EN which homogenizes the different approaches of
the national Standards and increases the reliability of test results. CONTROLS is proposing the new
AUTOMAX E-Modulus that, connected to a suitable frame with transducers, fully satisfies the new
requirements thus permitting to perform the test cycles conforming to all above mentioned Standards.

ADVANTEST at TUCA (UK)
Balfour Beatty and their joint venture partners have purchased an Advantest
console with 50-C1201/BFR 100 kN frame and 65-L1301/BFR 15/300 kN dual
chamber frame into the brand new TUCA facility.
New tasks and new faces in the Company
The Tunnelling and Underground Construction Academy (TUCA) is a new,
purpose-built facility providing training in the key skills required to work in
tunnel excavation and underground construction.
TUCA is the only facility in Europe dedicated to the education of soft-ground
tunnelling techniques. Its curriculum is driven by the needs of the industry
and the vast building houses an unrivalled range of specialist plant and
equipment.
TUCA – www.tuca.ac.uk – have already received visits from senior dignitaries
from the UK (David Cameron and members of his Cabinet) and overseas. It is
located in east London, not far from the Olympics site.
MCC for new Russia cosmodrome
MCC Classic featuring advanced servo-hydraulic system for static and low-frequency dynamic testing on building materials has been installed in Russia at the
new Vostochny cosmodrome, located in the country’s far east.
The new station, in the Amur region bordering China, will be close to the Svobodny site, which is used for unmanned launches and slated for closure and
won’t be ready for manned launches until 2018, but unmanned vehicles could
lift off as soon as 2015.
The supplied MCC, controlling 4 frames, operates the complete automatic execution of compression, flexural and indirect tensile tests and determination of
Secant Elastic Modulus.
