chartered the following year with 96
members.

Daughters of the
American
Revolution
who served as patriots of the American
Revolution. Yet we are equally proud
of our membership in the Daughters of
the American Revolution as a service
organization. In 2013, the Daughters
volunteered more than four million
hours in community service.

Historic Preservation
Education
Patriotism
DAR helps support and preserve historic
landmarks and structures as well as graves of
Revolutionary patriots.
Such memorials
include the World War II Memorial, Women
in Military Service Memorial and others.
DAR fosters education through
volunteerism and support of adult and
youth literacy programs, DAR schools,
scholarships and financial aid to high
school seniors, undergraduate and
graduate students, American Indian
education and more. The DAR Kate
Duncan Smith School in Grant is a
focal point of DAR educational
activities in Alabama.
Daughters participate in many
patriotic activities including Project
Patriot, which supports America’s
military service personnel and their
families through volunteer activities.
DAR sponsors workshops that offer
instruction in locating and preserving
genealogical resources, copying unpublished
documents and building online databases to
make historical records more easily accessible.
DAR recognizes and encourages
citizenship education and awareness
among youth and adults.
DAR supports conservation efforts
through recycling, education and
volunteerism.
Like the Cahaba Lily, appearing beautiful and
fragile yet inwardly strong and resilient.
Service to military veterans includes
assistance to veterans in both VA
hospitals and non-VA
non
facilities through
volunteerism and contributions.
DAR encourages and recognizes good
citizenship and community

DAR sponsors programs
and events during the
week of September 17-23

to educate and create
awareness of the nation’s
Constitution.
