For guidance when you formulate with our products
according to Ecolabel criteria
Ecolabel guide
Ecolabel is a voluntary scheme established in 1992 to encourage
businesses to market products and services that are kinder to the
environment.
The main purpose of this Ecolabel brochure is to help you formulate cleaning products according to Ecolabel
criteria. To guide you using our products, you will find a table containing the following information:
•
•
•
•
•
Active content [%] of our products
DID-number for products included in the DID-list part A
Calculated value for Df/Tf for products as such (concentration of active matter is considered)
Biodegradability of surfactants (readily and anaerobic biodegradability)
Risk phrases (R) and Hazard Statement (H)
The brochure contains a short description of each cleaning product category and the important criteria for each
group, related to our range of products, are summarized below. You will also find explanations and example on
how to calculate the Critical Dilution Volume (CDV) using the data present in the table. This document should be
considered as a guideline (or living document), which can be changed when additional information is available.

Criterion 2
Biodegradability of surfactants:
a. Ready biodegradability (aerobic)
Each surfactant used in the product shall be readily biodegradable
Assessment: 1) DID-list part A shall be used; 2) if not included, at least 60% biodegradability within 28 days in OECD 301, B, C, D, F must be reached
b. Anaerobic biodegradability
Non-anaerobically biodegradable surfactants may be used only if they are not classified with N; R50 (very toxic for aquatic organisnms)
Assessment 1) DID-list A part A shall be used; 2) if not included, at least 60% ultimate biodegradability under anaerobic conditions in OECD 311 must be reached

How to calculate
•
The DID-No of the products included in the part A of the DID-list can be found in the tables on the following two pages. The values for toxicity
and biodegradability in the DID-list have been used to calculate the Df/Tf (product as is) of those substances.
•
For the products that are not in the part A of the DID-list, the procedure described in the part B has been used to establish the biodegradability
and the toxicity values. To calculate the Df/Tf (product as is) validated test results have been used.
•
The Critical Dilution Volume (CDV)(i) is calculated for each substance using the following equation:
CDV(i) = Weight(i) * Df/Tf(product as is)(i) * 1000
•
The Df/Tf (product as is)(i) given in the table is a calculated value for the product as such (active matter [%] is considered). The value can simply
be multiplied by the concentration of product in your formulation.
Example: your formulation contains 6% of AG 6206
=>CDV(AG 6206) = 6 (g/100 g product) * 0,28 * 1000 = 1680 litres
(AG 6206 has an active matter of 75%; the active content [%] has been taken into account in the calculation of the Df/Tf (product as is)(i); 0,28 for
AG 6206)
If you have any problems to calculate the Critical Dilution Volume (CDV) or if you have any questions, please contact your AkzoNobel sales representative or your distributor. They will be pleased to help you.
