A historic edition
It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the 22nd edition
of the International Gymnix where the best junior gymnasts from
around the world get together to meet and compete.
Let us remind you that during the recent Olympic Games in London, the Canadian Olympic team has achieved excellent results,
with a historic rank of fifth in the team competition. As a result,
Canada is now positioned very favorably on the international scene.
This achievement paved the way for this 22nd edition of the International Gymnix, which is the most prestigious in its history by
hosting countries such as, Belgium, Brazil, France, Japan, Romania, Russia and Canada under the Junior Cup.
We invite you to attend this historic edition and warmly encourage our athletes who promise a colorful show!
We would like to thank all our partners and sponsors who make
this event possible year after year. Thank you to our wonderful
team of volunteers who made this event a huge success.
Good luck to all competitors!

Since 1991, gymnasts from all continents have filled the podium of
L’INTERNATIONAL GYMNIX coming from Australia, Japan, Israel,
France, Belgium, Spain, Switzerland, England, Austria, Russia,

Lilia Podkopayeva and team champion Dominique Dawes, the allaround 2004 champion Carly Patterson, the 2007 world champion, Shawn Johnson, the 2011 world champion and Olympic
team champion, Jordyn Wieber, and the 2010 world champion

L’INTERNATIONAL GYMNIX women’s artistic gymnastics competition exists since 1991. This unique event in Canada groups
together the Canadian and world’s elite in a festive atmosphere
which combines performance and friendship. As one of the rare
international competitions that offer apparatus raised on podium, this event is sought after by Canadian gymnasts. In 1995,
the CLASSIQUE GYMNIX was created to welcome athletes from
the provincial and national categories.

In fact, after only 4 years of training, Ginette Dufresne placed
eight in the 1976 Olympic trials and four years later Carmen Alie
was unable to participate due to the Canadian boycott. Gymnix
had to wait until 1988 for its first Olympic participation in the person of Cathy Giancaspro.
The mission of excellence was achieved. The architects of this
success continued their hard work over the next twenty years as
5 other athletes were named Olympians.
13 - L’INTERNATIONAL GYMNIX 2013
Founded in 1973 by Ms. Nicole MacDuff and her collaborators,
Raymonde Germain and Gabrielle Gindroz, Gymnix set out on a
mission of excellence with the ultimate goal of participating in
the Olympic Games. Throughout the years, the club had success
from the provincial to international levels and qualified its first
athlete to the Olympic Games after only two attempts.

28 - L’INTERNATIONAL GYMNIX 2013
Athletes’s profile
(Gymnix Challenge)
Ms. Hélen Laliberté, head judge of L’International Gymnix and the
Fédération de Gymnastique du Québec, realized a lifelong dream
of representing Canada as an official during the 2012 Olympic
Games in London.
This accomplishment was made possible after many years of
effort, sacrifice and perseverance. As with an athlete trying to
reach the highest summit in their sport, an official must also dedicate a lot of time and energy to reach the Olympic Games. She
must know all of the rules and their applications, spend hours
analysing video and working in the gym with the athletes and
coaches,in order to perfect her technical knowledge and support
them in their preparation.
Throughout the years, Hélen Laliberté climbed the ladder from
provincial to national, Pan-American and Pan-Pacific, to reach
the international level and obtain her status from the Fédération
Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG), allowing her to judge the
World Championships and finally the Olympic Games. Her perseverance, her attention to detail and her close collaboration with
the coaches and athletes largely contributed to the fifth place
world ranking of the Canadian Olympic team. An historic accomplishment!
The organizing committee of L’International Gymnixwould like to
acknowledge and congratulate our head judge for this outstanding achievement. The excellence of her work and her profound
knowledge were recognized on the world stage. Always modest
about her personal accomplishments, Hélen amply deserves our
recognition.
CONGRATULATIONS HÉLEN !!!
29 - L’INTERNATIONAL GYMNIX 2013
An Official from
Quebec at the 2012
Olympic Games
Our experience at the London Olympic Games was exhilarating!
We prepared for this adventure for over two years. Attending
an Olympic Games was one of our craziest dreams and we are
ecstatic to have obtained it. They were many steps before attaining our goal: searching for and buying our tickets (not only
for gymnastics, but also for diving, volleyball, judo and even weight-lifting), finding an apartment etc. During our two weeks in
London, we lived many moments rich in emotion, the strongest
being when the Canadian women’s team qualified for team finals
bringing together the eight best teams in the world. We couldn’t
believe it! Two days later this same team would rise to fifth place
in the world, behind USA, Russia, Romania and China and ahead
of many other nations that normally dominate the world of gymnastics. A never before seen accomplishment for the Canadian
team! We were able to experience this historic event with the
gymnasts, coaches and parents of the team. Everyone was hysterical, had tears in their eyes, and was singing the national anthem;
it was a magical and indescribable moment!
Throughout the Olympic Games we met athletes, coaches and
judges who shared their experience with us, we lived the Olympic
atmosphere, we took part in a unique and extraordinary event, it
was just WOW!
We wish that everyone would have the chance to go to an Olympic Games; they are moments that will forever remain engraved in
our memories and which strengthened our passion for gymnastics and our friendship!

COMPETITIVE PROGRAMS
All of the competitive categories recognized by the Quebec gymnastics Federation
are offered by our competitive program. To get into this program one must first audition for the Club-École. This is a pre-competitive program, for 4 to 9 years old girls,
that trains them according to their corresponding orientation chosen by the coach,
the parents and the child. After this stage, the gymnasts can move on to regional,
provincial, national or international levels.
The girls are put into small groups and are taken care by their respective coach along
with dance, physical preparation, sports psychology and nutrition specialists depending on their level of competition. To reach their goals, the gymnasts train between
4 to 30 hours a week and 40 to 49 weeks per year.
RECREATIONAL PROGRAMS
These programs offer recreational activities for kids aged 2 to 15 years old, 3 times
a year: fall, winter and spring. During the summer, the club offers a gymnastics day
camp.
The toddler and young children program
For the children aged 2 to 6, the activities are essentially centered on psychomotor
development allowing children to develop and master basic skills:
Motor skills: to run, to crawl, to climb, to turn, to jump, to throw, to hop, to catch.
Perceptive-motor skills: coordination, agility, corporal perception, space perception,
rythm.
These abilities are developed by using a pedagogical method that maximizes the
time of the activity and a diversity of experiences: the circuit.
Recreational program
For the children aged 6 to 15, the activities aim to teach the different gymnastic
elements required on vault, uneven bars, balance beam, floor and trampoline. The
children are grouped together according to their age and level and the classes are
2 hours a week.

35 - L’INTERNATIONAL GYMNIX 2013
We often talk about our Gymnix gymnasts. However, behind each gymnast, there are
parents who are just as devoted as their precious daughters.
When their little angel starts gymnastics at a young age,her parents notice the
pleasure with which she jumps around and climbs all over the place without any fear
of reprimand. As the years of practice go by, her parents discover in her the desire
to perform. They also become aware that she has developed a sense of pride, of selfesteem and self-discipline. In short, everything that we as parents hoped that she
would develop in her formative years.
In their efforts to perpetuate their daughter’s happiness, parents exert significant
effort without ever counting the time invested. The child’s commitment becomes
that of the parent. It is at this point that we discover what an important and interesting place the family car has become! It becomes a place for supper or a snack
before training, a place to review for tomorrow’s spelling test, a time to share thoughts about the school day, including, of course, the obvious question, ``How was
training today?``
A Gymnix parent is very important to the success and happiness of each gymnast.
Supported by a team of competent and devoted coaches, a Gymnix parent becomes
a link in the chain needed to ensure a level of balance in the life of their athlete.
As the gymnast’s competitiveness and willingness to climb to the highest echelons
of the sport increases, so does the passion of the parents. They start by helping
organize a DEFI competition,a Christmas supper for the gymnasts, by helping repair
equipment in the gym, or evenby being part of L’International Gymnix. They also
attend every competition as the best fans ever! A pleasure they share with the other
parents.
These few lines bear witness to how privileged we feel to have watched and participated in the development and the journey of our daughter Lory Jing throughout
her years of training. This, from before she even started school, until very recently,
all the while never suspecting that she would reach her personal goal of becoming
Canadian champion in her category.
The life experience she gained throughout her gymnastics career, with our help as
well as with that of her coaches, is more than some people will ever gain in a lifetime.
We are proud of the life skills that our daughter was able to develop within the Gymnix family, and we thank them wholeheartedly.
Stéphane Robert, Claudia Bernard and LoryJing
